Chris, it's great to hear you insight into games reverse engineering, etc... Great effort. What I'm curious about is more on your knowledge/encounter with the Bitmap Brothers. Why did you asked for the MegaDrive version of Speedball 2 instead of the Amiga version given the MegaDrive version was ported based on the Atari ST version? Speaking on which, why wasn't the MegaDrive version get ported based on the Amiga codebase? I've searched online to find the reasoning, but no luck getting clarification on this.

For me, I was there when it all went down. I'm 47 years old and I witnessed the Golden Age of Video Gaming. That was mostly 8-bit, so when 16-bit stuff like this arrived on the scene, it was mind-blowing. Never before did games have such depth, color and immersion. Sega revolutionized the Arcade with it's pseudo 3-D graphics Super-Scaler technology in games like Outrun, Afterburner, Hang-On and Space Harrier. These games introduced environmental cabinets with motion controls and, what I believe was the first force-feedback game controllers. Such an amazing time to watch the leap into the 16-bit era and so very early in the mid-80's too. The first 16-bit home systems would not arrive until 4 to 6 years after that. It was leaps and bounds in those days. All of these games ate what little of my hard-earned lawn-mowing money that I could feed them at the time and I have no regrets.

Great video, really fantastic guy! I remember the first time I saw the game on the arcades. It was a blast!!! Later I bought it for my Amstrad CPC, it was running at the blistering speed of 3fps. Later moving to the Amiga I got that too there but it was a US.Gold port... At least we had the Lotus series and Vroom.

Brilliant interview with an insight into all the hard work and effort that actually goes into making something like this a reality. We just click and play and don't think about it when it's free. Respect for this, one of my all time favourite arcade machines along with Afterburner. Too many memories of arcades, wanting to have a version that I could play at home but was subjected to awful ports. Yes the 3ds version is awesome but this is simply brilliant, anytime, anywhere, any console👍🏼. Many thanks Chris and to Scarflix for giving a big shout out to this!

Have Sega ever been known to 'cease & desist' projects like this or other retro de/re-makes? If not, it shows a great level of understanding of the love and respect we have for the games they've given us.

Such a special game. The Switch Sega Ages version is great, but it's worth playing this if not just for the little pixel prancing horse.

Would love to see Chris White make extra levels for the actual game. Maybe he can start with the Japanese tracks first? I'm all for Beta testing it too, since I've done some extensive work on my Outrun on my channel.

I can play OutRun on my phone, tablet, Macbook and Dreamcast but this Cannonball version is tremendous! It's unreal how much genuine care was put into this project WITHOUT a gofundme or kickstarter. Chris did what SEGA wouldn't. 👍

You probably never had an Commodore Amiga, otherwise you would have known the "Bitmap Brothers". =) BTW, do you know if this portable Version of SB2 is available anywhere? Would be great to see that one, too - maybe even ported to it's Amiga home. 8)
