I agree -- I think they just need to shorten their safety tools blather - which like DM Bludsworth said is the easiest fix. It's ok to mention it -- but yeah people get it -- they don't need to be reminded -- let's just move on and play. You can play Conan via the Robert E. Howard version (R-rated), Conan the Barbarian (1982) (PG), or Conan the Destroyer (1984) (G). Many ways to play Conan. All legit. Group just needs to agree on how they want to approach the game and go for it. I have read all of the Robert E. Howard Conan books and short stories (and fantastic!! stuff) although personally, I like the PG Conan the Barbarian (1982) version for TTRPG play. You can draw from all the source material from Howard and easily keep it 1982.

Yeah, it's really insipid. But the mediocre rules don't sell the game either.

How do you harvest meat from a KO’d deer? When my players are on a long journey and have to forage for food, herbs, kindling and wood for fire, yes the simulation of realism is important for the game experience.

@@DM_Bluddworth the deer gives them edible leaves or berries it foraged or leads them to a spring or something surrounded by berries after they chase it hunting, bam done.

@@roon-sy8fz I don't accept "Bam Done" and neither do my players. Some have foraging and hunting skills, and they require skill checks (ie. they can fail), and failure can lead to other negative consequences. My players want to experience the world setting, not just teleport from one location to another. They want the risk of failure and the rewards of success. Not, "oh you look for it, here you go you have it". When they are in wilderness, they may be beset by a pack of wolves or a foraging brown bear. They may be on a boar hunt as part of a rite of passage. Bottom line is, if they are playing a Conan the Barbarian based game, a majority of their encounters in the wilderness will be animals, beasts, monsters, etc. I'm running a PG 13 table, for adults, not a rated G table with knock outs and characters get a boo boo. We're not playing 5E or My Little Pony.

@@DM_Bluddworth That's fine but those are self-imposed limitations as a GM, not anything intrinsic to the game. It's just bizarre to me to see a grown man trying to flex how hardcore he is because he has the "real" experience in his game. Like bro Conan is full of grape and other terrible things done to women, but I would be shocked if your position is to tell female players to just suck it up because of the value of the "real" game. Does a woman have to endure the description of marauders gang graping villagers the way a vegan might have to hear about a deer getting butchered or do you have hypocritical double standards? Its either all "real" and needs to be in there or you and those likeminded pull punches on certain themes and its more about your personal tastes than a solid rule. Interested to see where you guys fall on that one!
