You hit the hammer on the nail! Too many BS in the fragrance community. I used to be one of them that was looking for compliments but then I realised how silly and superficial that was. Wear a fragrance you like, dress well, conduct yourself properly and you WILL be attractive to most people and it is completely irrelevent if they give you compliments or not.

That's a fact. WHO YOU ARE completely with those variables will ultimately lure people towards you, and THEN they will possibly make a comment on your fragrance. But these dudes will have you thinking they're in the checkout line at walmart and random people tell them how good they smell, while some of them look akin to Andre the Giant. Yeah, right.

This is so completely true! I have bottles for certain occasions only due to memories. La Nuit D L'Homme is my bottle from 2010. I wore it on my wedding day and honeymoon. I wear it only for fancy dates with my wife. That being said, I wouldn't have some of the beautiful scents I own without getting mention from KZfaqrs. These people did teach me about seasons though. Yes, you can wear anything at any time, but Bulgari Man in Black hits different in 90F heat than Dolce and Gabbana Light Blue does. I wouldn't have thought of that. Before I started down this rabbit hole a couple of years ago, I had 2 bottles, my YSL I mentioned above, and a 2011 bottle of Burberry Summer. Well, the Burberry was my go-to. Even in December. KZfaqrs are helpful to open my eyes to the fragrance world, but I'm smart enough (due to finances) not to follow their every word.

This video is a breath of fresh air. Lately more than ever, selling people the lie that fragrances will get them laid has become a thing especially between the big female KZfaqrs. I’m presuming their followers are young impressionable teens, I can’t believe an adult man can even not laugh at such idea. Fragrances are a beautiful art, and it’s a nice hobby, but that’s it. They have no impact on real life what so ever. More over, in some countries they’re even consider an offensive thing if you use them too much.

YES!!!! This is a message only a few dare to say on their channel. You are so spot on with this Dan. I don't have any seasonal perfumes, or just for dates, or whatever. Some more expensive ones I do wear less often, just to safe my bankaccount from getting drained. I wear whatever I feel like wearing that day. I just stand in front of my small collection in the morning, look at it for a second and say; "Come on down [name of the perfume]!". I do have one perfume though which always does calm me down, but that's all because of the positive memory from my childhood attached to it.

@@abbeyadeyemi6866 I used to do this also, but most people I meet or know, couldn't distinguish a reasonal priced but good quality designer or niche, from a perfume which costs a few hondred Euro's/ Pounds/ Dollars. So I stopped doing this. I did cut down my large collection to a dozen left. All of them are high quality and within my personal scentprofiles. Most costs between 80 and 100 Euro's and 3 costs more. People around me like the "reasonal priced" just as must as the expensive ones when I wear it. I kept one cheapy; Drakkar Noir, and even that one some people around me like it just as much as the expensive ones. Only when I let people smell my collection at home, they can smell the difference in quality and complexity. But funny enough, a lot think Pasha de Cartier EdT is a realy expensive one, while it costs about € 80,-.

So let me address the “fragrances don’t help with dating”. They WILL NOT get you laid. However… I do well in conversation once they’ve started… but I am trash at breaking the ice. Wearing fragrance breaks the ice more often then not. Compliments… I get them all the time. I had someone at a medical facility look like she was short circuiting then look at me with wide eyes and say “you’re wearing something wonderful”. I have customers at work that walk up to the counter and say “oh wow… it smells great in here” (I manage a cell phone store). Seasons… I don’t care what you say… interlude man and Tuscan leather will literally kill people in the summer here (sometimes 110 degrees). Smelling like spring flowers during 3 months of snow is depressing too. Winter to me is for sweat gourmands. Mood… I can tell you that I started collecting fragrances while going through a divorce… I can also tell you that smelling good and exploring different profiles definitely helped with my depression. Was there a note that did it? No… but getting wafts throughout the day of heavenly fragrance was great. People asking what I wore started conversations that made me feel less alone. Conclusion… you are pretty cool… but you are not the end all be all of human kind. Sorry. So just because these ideas don’t resonate with you… doesn’t mean they won’t resonate with others… and doesn’t mean that others are liars. It possibly means that you did a good job making an intriguing title with provocative takes… and that you are a unique person with unique views just like everyone else… nothing more… nothing less. Enjoy the views.

Excellent take. They may not necessarily get you “laid” but they do help the mood. Something polarizing could kill it. Uniquely appealing adds to the passion/mystery. I’m with you on the season thing. I couldn’t imagine wearing Sedley by PDM in the cold or Spice Bomb extreme in 110 degree heat. They do a great job in rounding out a person’s general appeal and or appearance. Generally, I find that men who wear fragrance are a bit more interesting and appear, at least in my experience, to be better employees/managers than those who don’t.
@jonritchey8653
@jonritchey8653 Жыл бұрын
@@novumdomine9925 it’s basically because fragrance is a category that you can embrace… do the cheapest thing that works… or forgo it entirely. I feel like the person that doesn’t wear fragrance might also be inclined to pass on other categories where participation is not required. There are some with allergies and other such things… but I think my above statement might speak to why fragrance wearers in your experience seem to have it together a bit better. I can say from experience that spice bomb extreme in the dead of summer… at least in the daytime is a mistake lol. But a spray of spice bomb extreme over 2 sprays of banana republic oud mosaic for summer nights is magical.

Number 3 (Performance) and number 6 (effect on mood) are NOT lies. Fragrances have different performance levels, that doesn’t mean that’s the only thing you focus on all through the day and people do get nose blind to certain notes, neither of these does not means performance is not important. As regards the mood, smells (which can include the smell of food, drinks, places, seasons etc) and fragrances DOES influence mood. This is an extremely well established fact.

I agree about everything that you say. Fragrances are a fun hobby but we shouldn't stress about and put them on a pedestal. The only thing I don't agree is the summer/winter thing. Most people would prefer a scent that was warming or heavy in the winter and would prefer light scents in the summer. It doesn't mean you can't wear it but the seasons and temperature are something that adds context to the fragrance

Controversial topic. Excellent worthwhile video.Very well intentioned points. Not all in my experience are accurate. Compliments? You do get them. ideally based on event, fragrance and your age. Do they get you laid? No. But they do inspire a conversation that may lead to more. Depression? When a loved one died I was depressed for a while. Dressing well and a good fragrance helped my mood. Of course, that was me and that's no solution. Seek help. Most KZfaqrs are indeed enthusiasts and nothing more.

Pretty spot on. I would add: - If people know you are a fragrance-reviewer, then they know its safe for them to tell you that you smell great. So if Jeremy`s regular bartender tells him he smells great, then he prob does, but also maybe a case of people saying what they think you wanna hear? - If Im talking to a woman that looks like a serial-killer, then Im not gonna say a word even if I like her fragrance 10/10. Because she might interpret it as romantic interest. And women are even more careful about that stuff.

This guy is speaking the truth, many of the KZfaqrs on fragrances just talks nonsense, specially those who says you won't smell unique, what people must realize is that any new fragrance on the markets is going to be bought by millions of people, what I'm saying is not only one person is going to by a new fragrance that came out, every fragrance old or new does its job and that is to make a person smell nice, yes not all are the same, but you buy what you like and you and enjoy what you find suitable for you, not everyone is going to like a certain fragrance, but I know that anyone who wears a fragrance smells unique, so buy a fragrance of what you think is right for you, not what a KZfaqr suggested, yes there are fragrances that doesn't project that well, but who cares as long as you know you smell very nice, people can smell you smelling nice, but many will not compliment you, but who really cares.

I scan youtube for heads up about new fragrances and for an idea of what's around pretty much so i know what to ask for when I go to look for a new smell. The only compliment I've ever had in relation to fragrance was when I was 20 and a mid 40's woman was trying to crack onto me at work lol. I was only wearing JOOP at that stage.

True story: I was at a cast party, and my now wife came up to me and said, 'Hi. Excuse me, but I just had to come up and say how nice you smell. What are you wearing?' We had briefly seen each other before, but never really had any communication before that. That was 21 years ago. Now, while I admit that was likely just a line/icebreaker, it worked. Sometimes people just need a reason to start up a conversation, and the sense of smell is powerful.

The realest fragrance video ever! However, I don't quite agree with number six. In my personal experience, fragrances helped me through very tough time of stress, trials, and tribulations. I found it to be very therapeutic. I salute you for being very candid 🫡

Thanks! I appreciate this video. I just got into perfumes but I never really understood what people meant by stuff like "summer perfume" and "winter perfume". I am from India and typically people bring in ME temperature with our summer hence "Oud this" and "Oud that" will last much longer than others.

Not a lie as such, but some youtubers behave as though the important thing is to *own* the fragrance rather than actually regularly wear it.

@@MrSmelly1977 youtubers will also tell you not to blind buy everything and that you don't need all these fragrances, but then pretend that they "had to" blind buy a full bottle of something (which they're going to try on paper and maybe wear once) "for the channel".

Generally agree but feel performance and sillage are an issue. Some fragrances overperform and are really nauseating/irritating indoors and in close quarters.

The compliment thing is always funny to me because while I have had quite a large amount of compliments they have always been from other dudes or my current girlfriend/wife. Women aren't approaching men to compliment their fragrance even if you're fairly attractive

I mostly agree about the season comment. If you like it wear it however I can see a rationalization that I might not want to wear an aquatic in the winter unless it is an ice aquatic. LOL Also I can see how some frags might not last as long in warmer weather due to skin reacting to the heat. Good video though, thanks!

Don’t agree that fragrances can’t improve your mood. I can definitely get a little uplift from spraying a fragrance that means a lot to me, such as ones that remind me of deceased family members, take me back to good experiences etc, I have pillow sprays that calm and sooth me.

What really gets me are YTers who come out with their own fragrances. One thing I'll disagree with you is I have chronic pain and I find fragrances help stimulate my body and can lower my pain a bit. There is something to aromatherapy.

This is a great video, I couldn't agree more with what you said. Especially regarding point #4 ("seasonal fragrances"). I'm Namibian and here, the temperature in daytime (at least inland) rarely drops below 30 degrees celsius, in the evening, during the "winter" (no such thing really), it might go down to below zero if you happen to be in the capital (which is pretty much smack dab in the middle of the country) but where I'm from (close to the Angolan border in the north), it's like maybe 14-16 degrees at night and around 26-29 in the summer. Traditionally, we use myrrh as a perfume (called Omaka and/or Omumbiri in my neck of the woods. You can smell it in Jo Malone's "Myrrh & Tonka" perfume), and it's something we use all the time (regarding time of day & season), granted, Namibia is an arid country (outside of a short rainy season during the summer in December-January/February), so it might not be as "overpowering" as it might be in the UK, but at the end of the day it doesn't really matter. I wear whatever I feel like at any given time, I just apply less of it (perfume) if I don't want it to project as much. You got yourself a new subbie with this one! Cheers!

I agree with all of these except performance, sometimes a frag just poops out in a couple hours, period, no one can smell it on you, now does it have to last 16 hours? of course not. going nose blind is real though, ambroxen and saffron if it's too pronounced, will knock my nose offiline right away. but you know these are performing because, hours later you start getting whiffs. So I life in place that is mostly warm to sauna bath humid hot (Florida), and I will use those "winter" scents, many of these are used all over the world in the warmest of climates. I doubt that men in Dubai wait for it to be snowing before using a heavy oud / wood perfume. I think this is just marketing, I do think some frags are better suited to specific situation, I won't be wearing Sauvage elixir to the gym,
