The saddest death for me is still Coyote Starrk’s. He was a chill and good dude who just wanted some friends.

Kaname Tosen’s death was one of the most heartbreaking. His final request to look upon Hisagi’s face before his end is truly gut wrenching and deserves a mention.

Gin's death always gets me, for a character who was steeped in mystery for so long Kubo really made you feel for him 🥺

Imagine if Hachi teleported Barragons hand into Aizen...

Yamamoto's death was the end of old Soul Society, the beginning of a new more reformist era with his successor that is needed. His gruesome brutal death also came off as sort of an apology for the horrors he perpetrated in his bloody past, one monster met his end at the hands of another and is whisked away to hell. Old Soul Society is dead, true change has arrived for the first time.

Yeah, Ulquiorra no doubt has one of the most beautiful deaths in anime and manga, which is a feat in and of itself since he’s a major antagonist. It was the phenomenal conclusion to a phenomenal character’s arc.

Can't believe Tousen's death isn't mentioned. So much at stake and such development.

For me ypu have 1 death missing.Starrk's death.He was loyal to Lillinete till his death.Also he was the only Espada that cared about his friends or allies.He did care about other Espadas they made him feel less empty and lonely

Ulquiorra’s death… part of me always felt like he started to fall apart not only because of battle damage pushing his healing factor pass the limit, but also because he was starting to go against his aspect of death The nihilism that made him wouldn’t allow something as sentimental as comprehending the “heart” and beginning to develop his own, in a way. Like him having even that little bit of humanity was enough to completely unravel his very being.

1 more thing that makes ulquiora's death the most impactful is that his is the only on on the list that is truly final. His soul was completely destroyed, and so he doesn't get to reincarnate in any way, not even in he'll like szaelaporo or the captains

Yama death was brutal and epic, Yhwach really outsmarted him absurdly, Kubo really had no mercy showing the Quincy king having his revenge.

Reading about Genryusai death the first time hurt the most. Same with Retsu. Ulquiorra was def a heart toucher. Even the bad guys u have a soft spot for because in most anime they revisit their lives n how they got here before dying. Even made Danzos death sad for me. If Tobirama continued to live he may have ended up doing the uchiha just as dirty as danzo for the sake of the village

Yamamoto's death scene was mind blowing. From the shot of him being cut in half to the moment the upper half of his body fell down to the ground... Just, Dam. What a way for the strongest to die.

Gin's death got me in the feels. A complex character who we didn't know what exactly his angle is. His ultimate backstory revealed the resolve he held in order to beat the man who was a embodiment of treachery.

Byakuya's situation is very hard for me to decide whether or not I would have preferred him to die in that scene or not. As you said - Dying = best death in the series - but; Living = Rukia being able to receive her adopted brother's respect and care after she reaches the pinnacle of her power in the series

Kinda expected Kaname Tousen's death to be included. So sad to see him being manipulated, and despite all he did, Komamura and Hisagi were there for him all the time.

The only possible problem with Byakuya actually dying in the invasion is the loss of Rukia’s complete character arc. Though that might even be more compelling if he had, so it’s really just about him being there in the final battle for the fans I guess

The brutal and disrespectful way of the captain commander of the gotei 13 has to be at the top right? I guess it’s subjective, but I can’t realistically put any other death above it.

This list really should have had Tosen's death on it somewhere. The shocking way that Hisagi manages to stab him through the head before releasing his Zanpakuto is incredibly brutal, but also thematically strong as Kaname is unable to see the attack coming despite finally having vision. Then his final moments where he gets to finally really look at Shuhei and Komamura and comes to terms with how he lost himself in his quest for vengeance and shows appreciation for the two men that had been his closest friends for most of his life before finally dying are emotionally resonant. Honestly I think Tosen in general (his arc, motivations, design, zanpakuto, philosophy, and his battles) is one of the more underappreciated characters in Bleach.

YES!! This is why mrtommo is the king of bleach KZfaqrs. Ulquiorra was my favorite bleach villain. Maybe even character. He was the most relatable villain in comparison to aizen and ywach. Also I would personally put gin’s death above Yamamoto because he was so much younger than Yama-jii. It’s hard to tell the ages of bleach characters because they age much slower than humans. As we see in urahara’s flashback arc, Gin was a child while aizen was an adult and tosen was a teenager. We can assume gin was pretty young compared to most of the captains. He probably had very little peace in his life. He wanted to spend his life with rangiku but had to follow aizen instead. Gin was such an amazing character. He was so charismatic yet also so unnerving and strange. He was inherently a pretty messed up character, yet he was also so noble. I could see someone making the case for gin’s death being the most tragic in bleach. Although Yamamoto had such an epic death, mourning sasakibe, battling ywach and finally unveiling zanka no tachi. Possibly the coolest bankai in the series. Also seeing how much of an impact his death had on the gotei was profound. Especially how it impacted kyoraku and komamura. Kyoraku’s character development after losing Yama-jii was some of the greatest character development I’ve seen in bleach. I also feel like ginjo and tsukishima were pretty tragic but we really didn’t get to learn very much about them. Haschwalth and bazz b’s story ended so beautifully yet tragically as well. It’s one of kubo’s best backstories and character dynamics. It’s one of the best parts of bleach.

I've recently read the CFYOW novel and have to say that Aura's near death and Tokinada's death are definately some of the most impactful for me. Especially Tokinada's. For someone who believed that the world's cruelty justified his actions, it was refreshing to see him die by the hands of a young girl, in the end proving that the world's cruelty could be fought and that Kakyo was right in the end

Byakuya's "death" really hits harder in the anime, the way the voice actor delivered the lines was pristine and far surpassed my expectations. You could hear his noble upbringing showing through with him thinking asking ichigo for a favour is a "selfish request" and yet he still insists since he puts the life of his fellow shinigami above his noble ideals, showing a certain acceptance within him before he "passes"

Although not a character death, I'd put Aushwählen there as well, for two reasons: 1. The "first" Aushwählen caused the deaths of Ichigo's and Uryu's mothers, which affected them both deeply and drove Uryu's father, Ryuken to seek vengeance against Yhwach. Thus, Auswählen has had a significant impact ob the story itself. 2. The "second" Aushwählen brings about the deaths of several named and unnamed Quincy, as Yhwach mercilessly massacres his own subordinates in order to absorb their essence. This is the ultimate moment of shock, horror and betrayal for the Quincy, as the man/god that they have served loyally and looked upon for guidance, stabs them in the back in the most horrific way possible. Aushwählen is not a character death per se, but it signals the end of days and death for the Quincy, while also affecting the mindsets and goals of both heroes (Ichogo and Uryu) and villains (Sternritters) alike.

RIP Starrk and my best cousin :( If Byakuya really died that would have been first place, or top3 at least, for me as well. That said, without including fillers, movies and novels, that would have many honorable mentions, my top deaths in Bleach still remains Gin, Starrk, Tsukishima, Bazz and Nnoitra.

Szayel Aporro's death is something the majority of Bleach characters are lucky to have never experienced.

Ulquiorra's death still hits the same as it did all these years later. The worst part is that hes now removed from the cycle of life and death since he didnt die to a sword

I think Szayelaporro is my favorite. Ever since I saw it, and even to this day, it's one of, if not, the most terrifying death I've ever seen in all of fiction. I've been scared of Mayuri ever since then bruh.

Szayel's death is my favorite "kill" in the series. It is such a insane, twisted and brutal yet fitting end to a truly vile character, that it makes for one of the most memorable scenes in all of Bleach. I really do like Nnoitra’s death, there is someting quite melancholic about the fact that he was so emotionally broken that to him, getting do at least die in battle without being pitied, was the one thing he truly wanted. My favorite death is probably Bazz’s. The mixture of regret, sadness and melancholy happiness in his expression as he finally realises his faults in why things ended up as they did, and knowing that at least Jugo fulfilled their childhood goal...it is beautiful and one of the best moments in the story, imo. Jugo’s death later on makes their story one of the most tragic in the series, but it’s a truly great one.

Maybe it doesn't count as a death since he just faded away, but if it does; than old man Zangetsu's departure deserves some love. To give everything he had to Ichigo just to protect Ichigo, that's a real partner. Old man Zangetsu will forever be missed.

Unohana being this powerful character was so cool I would have loved to see her go crazy for longer but if the hell arc can show off what she and the other Kenpachi's can do more that would be fire

Haschwalth vs Bazz B is interesting because Bazz B was a genuine friend to Haschwalth but never knew his circumstances, so when he said his uncle was killed in that fire that took everything from Bazz B, he thought they would both want revenge. Haschwalth's uncle was pure scum, however, so he was likely thankful that the fire killed the guy and getting such high praise from the very guy who killed him was exactly what he needed to hear to become completely loyal to Ywach.

Not sure how my list would look but I would've dropped Nnoitora for either Nemu or Stark. Both had heart wrenching deaths for different reasons but I think both were more impactful than Nnoitora.

I think Unohana should’ve, died by a Quincy’s hand. Namely Ywach himself. She looked deeply bothered by the death of Ginryusai and it would’ve served to show a greater connection between the two if she’d died trying to avenge him, or assisted in Ywach’s death along with Ichigo & Aizen in a more prolonged fight.

Unohana death felt kind of forced. I feels like shounen jump told kubo to kill someone that not byakuya so and make unohana the casualty.

Not gonna lie, I legit didn't even realize Gin died until they showed Rangiku standing over his grave, I think it was at the beginning of the TYBW arc. I know it was Aizen that did it, but we've seen people survive so much bullshit way worse than what Gin suffered that I just assumed he would pull through.

It wasn’t crazy big or anything but Maki’s fight with kenpachi was heart breaking.

For me, Ulquiorra's death is still Iconic over a decade on (I think it was 2011 when it first showed up on youtube. Subbed and mirrored in fact, Had to watch it in my bedroom mirror to read the subs) . I remember when I first saw the last episodes with him them, those last episodes on the Roof of Los Noches were awesome. Then came that final episode.... It broke my damn heart ngl.

The one thing I would like Komamura to have had was for him to be shown as part of squad 7 during the epilogue/hell arc. Not as the captain anymore obviously, but perhaps back up for Iba, similar to how Urahara, Ukitake, and Shunsui all had two lieutenants as well.

Feel like Senna from the Memories of Nobody movie deserves a mention that was such an emotional ending

Tosen and masaki's death should be added to the honorable mentions too. Masaki's death, similar to kaien's death, shapes ichigo's entire world view and his gave him that incessant need to act as the "protector".

Shaz Domino. Ichigo encountered him after leaving the Graganta when he escaped from Quilge's Jail - it's even better in the anime than in the manga. Ichigo fucking deleted the guy from existence.

On the topic of deaths, I think more characters should’ve died during the Fake Karakura Town arc. Like, despite beating everyone present, Aizen didn’t kill a single Captain, Lieutenant, or Vizard other than Tosen and Gin, the two he came with!

Interesting ranking. I would remove Nnoitora and Bazz-B and add Starrk and Barragan. If Kubo had been brave enough to make this ‘death’ permanent, Momo being run through by Hitsugaya while under Aiden’s illusion would have been top tier.
