AH HA!... that explains why I didn't see coolant in my oil. There are two sides where the hole could be in blown head gasket. Thank you. I think you just helped me identify that I DO have a blown head gasket after-all. I've been told repeatedly i don't have one because there is no water/coolant in the oil... nor do I have any white smoke or water coming out of the tail pipe.. yet I keep losing a little bit of water... and it has boiled out like that. I've replaced radiator, clutch fan and other things to help keep the vehicle cool.. yet.. problem persisted. Awesome.

I know this video is 4yrs old but I hope someone will see my comment. I have been having the same issues on my PT Cruiser. Not one radiator shop will listen to what I have to say they ALWAYS state because its a pt cruiser it is the head gasket. My car has passed 2 compression tests, 2 pressure tests, the old radiator had a 6in crack so I bought another radiator and replaced it I also bought and replaced, the thermostat is new, the thermostat housing is new, radiator hoses are new the fan unit is new, the reservoir is new also the temp sensor gauge is new. There is no milky stuff in my oil, the car does not smoke. The car does not run rough, and IT NEVER OVER HEATS. The temp gauge stays at half or below. There are NO COOLANT LEAKS. But yet, after driving it and then turning it off you can hear the bubbles. I have been burping the system for months due to the old radiator having a crack. Sometimes the reservoir is half full sometimes after days of driving it will fill. 😞 So what is the issue? I do not believe it is my head gasket. It has passed too many tests that has proven no head gasket issues. WHAT AM I MISSING?

I still would say that every time the piston moves down it sucks coolant into the cylinder, which means it will go into the oil and foul the plug, which it then would miss fire...right??? I have a good question....if you installed a new radiator, and the coolant tank for the transmissions leaks...and coolant gets into the transmission...who pays for the transmission rebuild, because the radiator it the part that failed.???

I have this problem now lmao dude I bought truck from (86 f150) decided to throw like a f350 radiator in it which worked for awhile. well I replaced water pump, timing chain, and removed the thermostat and again this worked for awhile but then my engine got so much pressure I blew the oil pan gasket and since I had to remove engine basically I went ahead and took a look at the head gasket. well past its way out and pretty sure I got some bad rings as I found oil on top of 2 pistons. boiling reservoir was a constant. odly enough one piston looked as though it took on water but there was no milky residue at all and engine looked damn good especially having over 200,000 miles.

This does not mean anything, Toyota 4.0 V6 has a big water pump and that water is being pushed around in the system like crazy. as soon as I start my Land Cruiser it makes same and shoot water outside. No compresion lost and engine is runing great.Ok in this video is obvious that there is a problem, but the water coming out without bubbles is nothing to worry about when temp is start raising.

@@The_Touring_Jedi water do come out as it is pressurized when car reaches optimal temp that's what the rad cap is for but water boiling and reservoir full to the brim like in the video is a sign to replace head. machining is only good as long as the warpage on the head does not go beyond the service limit provided by the manufacturer's manual. looking for other causes has no practical relevance at this point.

This is literally what my integras coolant looks like right now. Last week it was fine now its cloudy AF and swirling and bubbling. Still if you see this its the best outcome for a blown head gasket provided it hasn't overheated and there is no oil in your coolant. If you see cloudy coolant like this stop and park the vehicle and dont drive it unless its to a mechanic to get a new head gasket.

@undeadexile2485
@undeadexile2485 2 жыл бұрын
@@rollthelosingdice its funny cause it wasnt actually the head gasket. i dont understand how or why but i used redline water wetter to see if it really did as claimed. it did lower coolant temp by around 8 degrees instead of the advertised 15-20 or more but had some adverse effects. it caused what looked like oily bubbles in my coolant that resembled a blown head gasket. i actually hydrocarbon tested the coolant after the above post and found nothing. i drained the coolant completely, refilled and drove for 200 miles, then drained again and it quit swirling and bubbling. i ended up finding out the head gasket was fairly new at the time of post because i pulled the head 3 weeks ago to refurbish it due to a burnt exhaust valve. there wasnt any wear on the gasket. i did however find more carbon inside the engine than i have ever seen in anything anywhere. it looked like someone had driven with 16 leaking valve stem seals for the last 50k miles.

I know lot of people suggest this method to identify a blown head gasket. But I don't know how accurate this is. Modern engines use presurized coolant systems that operate typically above 15psi. This pressure is achieved by the expansion of coolant and when the radiator cap is open, flow of water pump wouldn't be able to keep up with expanding coolant so it would tend to overflow. And again since the desired pressure cannot be achieved the coolant would start to boil and create large amount of water bubbles. Correct me if I'm wrong.

Installed new radiator, cap, water pump, temp sensor, thermostat, hoses , and tried to burbed the air out of the system for days. When it cools down the next day it needs more water in radiator , and the overfill tank is overfilled . The old radiator was sludged up and I had the intake gaskets replaced twice in a shop over the last seven years. They did a blown head gasket test and said it was ok . Twice in the last three months when I check the oil it has a quart more than it was filled too.I have not driven it in a month but all this work. The oil is so clean ( it's been changed three times in 6 months; all of 10,000 miles) I do not see water in it. The engine temp will not stabilize and fluctuates at times getting very close to overtemp and I shut it down. It's a 2002 Buick Century 3.1 . From your video I must conclude it is a headgasket. Any other particular test you recommend ?

Did u find issue
@doublej4077
@doublej4077 Жыл бұрын
@@jayislander Yes I did . In retrospeck the blown head gasket tests were not that conclusive because I had a minute crack in the radiator and could not build enough radiator pressure for a good test.It was suggested , not approved that I build up the radiator cap seat area with epoxy as they had seen erosion over time cause leaks , and the radiator would not hold pressure . I never got around to that. The oil change place said it was leaking pretty good. I MYSELF replaced the radiator , thermostat, uppers & lower hoses for $800 when they wanted $1300. That fixed the leak but It was enough to cross the threshold and cause the head gaskets to fully blow and become worse. The test the shop did not only revealed blown head gasket causing water to go into the oil but I had lower engine problems. I had to replace the engine. I could have fixed the radiator with some good epoxy but this old car had 180000 on it. It was my fathers car so it has sentimental attachments. So the short answer was I had blown head gaskets with water leaking into the oil (1 quart extra on the dipstick of oil per month) and a hairline fracture in the radiator which caused me a lot of headaches and loss of water to cool the engine down. It would seep out while driving but I never really saw a pool of water on the driveway. The crack was on the back side of the radiator and you could not see it. When I removed it I pressure tested it and FINALLY could see where the leak & crack was at.

One other thing ...the crack was up high on the hidden backside , so whenever the radiator was tested there really was no water available at that level to spew water out of when pressurized and tested . When I took it off I filled it to the rim with water , capped off the radiator, and when pressurized the fracture became evident with water seeping out of it , and I FINALLY confirmed the fault !

I have a coolant leak on an older 97 Dodge Caravan. It is coming out of the exhaust. (Actually the muffler) But the car runs fine as long as I put more coolant in the radiator. No white smoke out of the exhaust. No milky residue in the radiator or in the oil. It's been like this for two years. The vehicle isn't worth the cost of replacing the head gasket. Any suggestions?

this can check if a head gasket blown. but only if its leaking through the water ports. this wont check if oil is leaking in them though. also a piece of advice when you add water to a car that is warm the car should be running to cycle the water. I mean unless you want to spend more on the damn thing then doing

Hi im from South Africa I search whole day for a answer. I realy realy realy hope someone can help me. I got a Fiat 128 rally 1974 The radiator cap vacuum part is gone and have no rubber seal on bottom only big top rubber seal. So the water is going freely to the coolant bottel. The cap is open inside. So the water have no pressure and can go freely back and forward without any valve have to open. Now.. can this be the reason my kar overhead after so 10 km or in traffic light it get FAST overheat?

Cool the engine down. Then pressure test the radiator and all combustion chambers (remove spark plugs). If you are loosing pressure at the radiator and one or more of the chambers, you have a head gasket leak. If you are loosing pressure at the radiator only but none of the chambers, and no coolant seeps into the oil, then you have either a leaky radiator or a broken water pump gasket. I highly doubt it is your radiator or water pump gasket based on what I observed in your video (revving engine and massive bubbles blow out of radiator cap area)...seems likely a blown head gasket between coolant passages and one of combustion chambers in head.

I got new head gasket waiting on several other parts cam chain tensioner needed im wondering do i really need to set tranny lock pin ? I think my timing is already off so im gonna set to top dead center cylinder 1 and 6 try an get head off with cam lobes attached. I believe i can do it..n have to worry bout setting the timing again in order to start vehicle at that time.

It’s not boiling the coolant system is pressurized because of the exhaust being forced passed the bad gasket.

Yeah I've got this problem with my old Mitsubishi Colt , it drives fine but after a long journey the exhaust gas pressure keeps blowing coolant out of the tank , I did only pay 600 for the car and have never had to do any work to it in over a year and it has 110 thousand miles on clock, engine still has plenty of power and I think will last me another year if I'm careful

there may still be air in the inner tubes that are on the dashboard of the car. Start the car in the morning without the chrome radiator cap and the hot air on, then squeeze the radiator water hoses a little bit with your hands to help expel the existing air, tighten the two hoses, bottom and top, leave the car running for two minutes without the chrome radiator cap, squeezing the hoses will help to expel air from the system and at the same time expel water, gradually fill the water in the radiator (use specific radiator water). after this procedure, with the car still running at a slow speed without accelerating, observe if air bubbles still come out of the radiator, if bubbles come out it may still be air remaining or head gasket burned (but if this happens it is another problem). With the car still running, radiator with water up to it and no bubbles appear, put the chrome cap back on (this cap is a type of pressure valve on nissan cars). then check that the expansion tank, the plastic cap arm is at the correct water level, never above. It will probably stop the water noise problem inside the car when starting in the morning. Detail: always be very careful not to get hurt by the hot water from the radiator, do this in a maximum of two minutes and make sure the car is not heating up, and do not forget to do this procedure with the hot air on the panel, only so the air will come out of the panel.

Hello everybody! My 2003 civic always makes a 2-second air hissing/sucking sound when I shut the engine off. In addition to that, the coolant always fills the reservoir up and doesn't seem to go back to the radiator. If I don't fill the coolant in the radiator up after a long ride or a few short rides, I'll get overheating. Someone told me that there's a leak from the coolant passage through the gasket to the outside. I don't see it mentioned in this video so I'm not sure if it's a thing. And if it's truly is, does anyone know a way to fix it? Does head gasket sealer help in this case? Thanks!

You are referring to what is called an external leak which leaks outside of the gasket and down to outside the engine compartment underneath a vehicle leaving a white powdery residue this is the best case scenario out of leaking head gaskets that is remedied by replacing main gasket with absolutely last resort replacement of engine
