Do Head Gasket Sealers Actually Work (FULL 2yr TEST with Engine Teardown)

Replacing a Head Gasket can be difficult and expensive. Sometimes your car is not worth fixing and this is where a head gasket sealer in a bottle comes in handy. Do these head gasket sealers actually work? How long do they last? How do they work? What does a bad head gasket look like? Do head gasket sealers clog radiators?
In this video I show you how to use a head gasket sealer to repair the head gasket and test it for 2yrs and 10,000 miles. I then tear down the engine and show you how the headgasket failed, how the sealer worked, and if the radiator got clogged up with sealer.

I used Blue Devil when my 97 Acura TL 3.2L started overheating continuously. I dye tested it to confirm and it was my head gasket. I followed Blue Devil step by step. I also bought a brand new radiator and flushed the system with a water hose with the top radiator hose pushing it through it and with no thermostat with bottom hose disconnected. With that I started the vehicle as well to fully flush all the coolant out. Applied the BD and it worked. This was at 100k miles and I am at 190k miles after 10 years! No issues.

Was wondering if it would be a good idea to drain your coolant system after the leak has stopped. Agree that it looks impressive and it didn’t clog things up by why temp fate? At that point you’ve probably kicked up some nasties in that system. Guess that was a long winded way of saying I’d drain it and just replace with properly mixed coolant.

So I had one on my first car a 96 Saturn sl1 5speed 1.9l sohc with 60k miles that I got for 600 bucks in 2007 on it when I got it. I used black bead shit and flushed my cooling system after and put 100k miles on it and drove like....a 14-18 year old. But I also drove a lot of hwy miles back and forth from mpls to Iowa babying it getting 43-46mpg....so it works. Would I do it to a vehicle that has value...idk

I have a 2013 Dodge Avenger R/T had the exact same problems as this car. No smoke billowing, no white milky substance in the engine cap, but the coolant reservoir reeked of Combustion gas. After $1,450 at the repair shop with no repair just money lost I was about to give up until I stumbled across this video. Followed the instructions to the Letter. Took a day or two and had to top off the reservoir a few times but afterwards no overheating, running smoother and stronger. Reservoir still smells of Combustion gas but it’s probably due to the old radiator fluid, gonna flush it and test it one last time. I really wanna thank you Chris Fix my only regret is that I didn’t come across this video before I spent $1,450 😅

That's why I used Bar's Stop Leak. Works great for me. To change a heater core on this car, the entire dash needs to come out about a 2 day job for a professional, 3 days for a DIY. For what I spent on the Bar's Leak, it's worth it even if I have to flush , and add new anti freeze and Bar's leak. 😊

I have a 99' that has a small oil leak. Just a spot here and there so nothing crazy. Thinking it could be the head gasket though. Car only has 62k miles, but it's never been replaced. Been using the sealers for years. Grew up originally using just basic sodium silicate which was easy to buy. Not all gaskets are created equal. Also the liquid glass method wasn't always wise. I've had more success with Steal Seal and K-seal never used the ultimate formula. Had the most failures with BlueDevils formula. Tested most on the markets as the budget of customers its what they brought for me to use. I just did what the manufacturer stated for instructions. My friends 2004 Impala leaked in 2007 did a new gasket. In 2010 it blew again only 68000 miles and 2x blown so I did the Steel Seal this time and now there 201k on the vehicle and hasn't leaked or blown another spot. Thats the longest lasting quick fix I've been able to track. As the owner gave me the vehicle and I gave it to my brother and he sold it to a friend in need. The Bars Block seal imo should be only temporary as I've had to do many radiator and heater core flushes as it clogged either the radiator or the heater core. Especially in aluminum rads. Seen 4 Land Rovers clogged bottom of the rads. Just replace the gasket in those beasts.

Usually the sealers from my early days were made to just get you home, but over the last decade things have definitely changed. My experience over the last ten years has seen quite a big difference in the quality and performance of these additives, and the one I recommend most would be Blue Devil, from their rear main seal repair, to transmission shift additive, and head gasket sealer, they are definitely The Best in my opinion!!!!

what you should recommend is get the actually fixed, if you can't afford that high bill just get a cheaper car and don't go to a dealer ship for starters. If you're car is worth $1500 i doubt anyone will be able to spend 30 000$ on a newer car, so yea, fix it if the bodywork is in good shape. On the used market you'll never know if there is sawdust in the engine or not.

I used k-seal on my 05 Tacoma. August 21’ and is still holding strong. I feel like the fibers in the bottle you tested made it wear down faster. I’m saving for a proper fix but for almost 2 years and 25k miles, K-seal has worked for me

I used a bag of Martin's Super Sealer on my 2.0 Toyota. It's like it says, it's a super sealer. This engine is notorious for headgasket failure. I put in one bag of the super sealer, and filled up with coolant. Let the engine run warm, and topped off the coolant. 2 years and about 20K miler later, and still no leaks.
