Idk how many have noticed. The light in the back circles the letter ‘a’ and the circuit casing design in the bottom as 2 makes it “2a” which is a matured Easter egg sort of design element.

Love how the Nothing Phones are taking us back to the days when phone companies weren't afraid to innovate! It's refreshing to see a brand daring to be different.

Nothings design is a breath of fresh air. But it looks like they're pretty much doing exactly what OnePlus did back then. Enter the market with crazy good value products to reel in customers, and then successively adjust with each generation.

The 5 minute countdown is for back to back meetings. In an office environment you need to wrap up and get to next steps before bouncing to the next room or video conference. 20m wouldn’t make any sense for that purpose, but ideally its just a setting

The design is creative and the lights are very helpful for reminding me to check important messages. After getting this phone i have never forgotten to answer any emails.

I was thinking the last point as well. A small screen using LLM to summarize your notifications would actually allow to ignore the noise more.

I miss the small led notifications lights that we used to get on phones. Used to be able to customize each app notification to a specific color. Wish they’d bring something similar to newer phones but on the rear panel instead

Can the essential mail notifications feature target a folder in the mailbox ? If so then your issue is easilly fixed by creating rules in your mail service. Create a rule that moves shop sites to a shop folder, game sites to a game folder, familly and friends mails to a personnal folder, etc.. Then get the notifications to target the one you want.

Had the v1 for years and I actually didn't realize focus mode and some of the other qwerks weren't on all phones. Great device love it!!

I have a Nothing Phone 2, and i am really glad i choose this one. simple, fast, lots of features and most used of all the Glyph lighting on the back, my phone has been on silent for months now because i see the notification happen. that notification light is so nice, ignore everything on your phone unless you set it up for different apps.

I think the true talent behind the editors of the videos who make the effects on this video goes underappreciated. Well done to you the effects look amazing and flow well with the video so they don't interrupt. I loved the unboxing animation and the transition animations especially.

I love the fact that the specs get the minimum time in his videos because I can read them by myself and rather the conversation with the viewer about the device which I actually want to hear

I've been using phone 1 for a year now, mostly because I absolutely love the design. And I'm not a fan of the new one, for now I'm staying with phone 1. Which is also great, after a year of buying a cheaper phone I don't feel a need to swap, which I think is the most important. I've been comparing to really good phones and even when it's not as good, it's still good enough

I think one of the greatest strengths is seeing that super well put together UI with a consistent solid aesthetic. I wish when I opened my pixel it looked like that

What I love about your content is that you tell us what is a pro and a con, or you tell us everything important and let us decide if it’s good or bad. Other KZfaqrs are like “okay so you could buy the new iPhone but it doesn’t survive being hacksawed or hit with a hammer so clearly you’re aren’t going to get a good phone.” It’s exhausting.

the better implementation for the glyph concept would be say a cover screen on things like a z flip phone, does the same thing but can display more useful information like timers, etc.

as someone who has the nothing phone 1, while i do believe there could be better ways to utilize the light set-up, I do agree that I think the limitations are gonna be difficult to work around. the thing is, I think the reason that the notifications not being that important from you parents are because of privacy concerns. if the phone was able to read your messages and therefore able to determine which notifications are important it would send off some alarm bells so I think that this is more of a compromise to more privacy focused users who will take a tradeoff of the notification not being that important slightly annoying if the phone isn't reading their messages in return(or isn't reading them as much as bigger companies) as I've glanced at their thing that they give you before fully setting up their phone and they obviously take some data which they say is to improve the glyph system but if this is their supposed improvements to it, something tells me they ain't taking much or they're taking a good bit but their like "this ain't important" or iim giving them the benefit of the doubt(the most likely option tbh). either way, i would take that compromise. EVERY text from my parents is important 🗿.

If you remember, Xiaomi had a phone, which has one single dot of led on top of the screen which you can customize the color, for whatever notification you want. For example if you have a high priority, you can set it to red (or blue doesn't matter). It is persistent, reliable, yet simple as hell. Release in 2016, Xiaomi Mi5❤

Hey Arun, i really enjoy your content and usually 100% agree with your take but for this one i think you have just misunderstood the reason for the LED notification as you can still set regular notifications for things that you need to be aware of. And for the important LED that stays on its so that when you do end up looking at your phone you know there is an important message of some sort instead of just the flash that you would get with any other notification.

I would like to have the old notification led back, which was located at the phones top section like with old Ericsson phones that you could see from front to rear and from top of the phone. Bring them back, those nice multicolor leds, that were user configurable to show various things like missed calls and notifications as well as charging status etc.

I really miss the led notifications from older phones. Wish that could come back somehow on these flagships

Im going to buy it 1 month after release, but thanks to the developer and company who made a great phone for that price!

The feature with specific notification is so good i have been using it for so long by pairing my smartwatch with the phone, i had a bad habit of always checking my phone whenever it vibrated but now i have selected only two important apps that i actually care about and whenever a notification comes from those apps my watch vibrate and i can check those while ignoring all other notification vibrations from my phone.

I'm enjoying my Phone (2) quite a bit. Very neat, massive upgrade from my Xiaomi. I did face some issues but those were fixed quite quickly - good official and community support. Nothing's doing something different in a good way. Good luck to everyone involved!

the first time i got my hands on it, i fell in love with the display! For the back, it reminds me of Eve from Wall-E. haha Its simple & fast & the glyph just makes it even more unique because its just not any other torch light. I've been using 2a for a month now, its worth every penny.

I think it would take another solid 3 to 4 generation to see how the glyph interface evolves and whether it is a solid game changer or not. But for now it just acts as a distinct differentiating features that others don't have.

i like how you mentioned the thing about the back screen. i currently use an android flip phone, the Kyocera 902kc, and it, like most japanese flip phones nowadays, has an external OLED 15hz screen that displays summarized information like what time it is, the battery, who's calling you, and has one of those old android 8 era colored LEDs that will flash with the app's color. it will also let you know if you got an unread SMS or a missed call with a little icon representing such. maybe that's where we could moving forward to?

Sony has also done that with their notification dot. There's green for charging or if the battery is still good, red for lowbat, white for notifications and sometimes blue for unknown reasons.

I'd much prefer a full body glyph design like the NT1 and NT2, than a 3-piece, half body..glyph LED. Feels like a backwards progression from standout, to subtle. (Not taking transparent backs into account). On the other hand, I love it that they took over Google as the only manufacturer with a accented power button.

I would describe the Phone (2a) as the "iPhone" of midrange Android - nothing too fancy, but it's a well balanced phone that gets the job done. Nice one Nothing! 💯

Thing is, the Poco F3 for example has similair specs, (slightly faster cpu but less ram) glass back, better fingerprint reader, IR blaster, included charger, case and headphones, and costed the same at release, but that was Three. Years. Ago.

That camera processing delay is most likely a software optimization issue. My nothing phone 2 takes some time to process stuff too. Just about what you showed in the video.

i feel like if they implemented some software to detect words in your notifications and then they'd use ai to identify if it's important or you could set a list of words that would trigger the important notifications it would help with the issue at 8:40

I believe what nothing has been doing is pretty impressive. The main deal is the software for me, as long as they can keep it this good and minimalistic, I am in. I hope they will continue that👍

The point about the lights being useless bc you need to flip the phone around anyways is really good. Maybe they should just add a small screen on the back for their flagships in the future and the glyph can be their budget option.

Nothing Phone owner and I'm happy with the phone overall. Just wish they'd give us the full Android 14 lock screen customizations. Because I'm not always in the mood for the same theme 100% of the time

The amount of questions and cool factor people have given my Phone 2 is worth the glyph and the design alone. I don't think 1 week passes without someone asking me about it. I also like the glyph notification because it just flashes quick letting me know I have a notificaiton without my whole screen lighting up taking my focus away to my phone. It may be a gimmick but I really like it. I've been a loyal Samsung lover for YEARS but I haven't regret going with the Phone 2 at all.

Using the 2A for two weeks now. Absolute banger. You really have to put it face down, it takes a while to get used to, but this is really the best option for $350.

Nice video. The glyph rant was justified but redundant, it can all be fixed by software updates. They shoud just give us the ability to customize all these parameters ourselves.
