Unboxing the Nothing Phone 2A with a review of the gaming performance, camera tech, battery life and other bits. I've been testing the Nothing Phone 2A for a few days as my full-time smartphone and here's my early impressions - one of the best mid-range phones for £300-ish.
Gamers will love this affordable blower, as Genshin Impact, PubG and other Android titles play perfectly even on advanced graphics settings. The Nothing Phone 2A is certainly one of my favourites for this UK price, offering a custom version of the Redmi Note 13 Pro Plus chip. Battery life is also brilliant, offering a full day of camera action - although there's no wireless charging this time.
That camera setup is decent enough for everyday shooting, with iPhone-style HDR shooting and 4K video recording. A couple of wee issues means the Nothing Phone 2A isn't quite as smart as the Pixel 7a, but it's not far behind.
And of course you've got Nothing OS, complete with its black and white icons and dot matrix styling. The glyph light setup has been streamlined for the Nothing Phone 2A vs the 2, but it's still feature packed and customisable.

I totally agree, but I think that a mini (or at least not huge) version of a flagship or model like the 2a would be great. That's the only reason I haven't gotten a Nothing phone at this point.

@@FluufyPvPTM ip 12 is a bit too outdated now. If you're considering buying an older ip model, the oldest one i suggest is 13 as it has a high refresh rate and the processor is still good + 2 more years of software support.

I have the Nothing Phone 2a Black and I absolutely love it ! Way better than my previous Samsung Galaxy A34 5G... I'm impressed by the Nothing brand.

Nothing phone 1's screen size was perfect. Neither too small like iphones nor too big like Chinese brands. Compact phones like asus zenfone were surprisingly good but the consumers were far too less @@endid

Nothing phone 2a looks great, and is just right for the price, the only problem is that the phone is way too big, I think reducing the size to 6.0-6.1 would make this phone perfect

Thanks for this review, I have been looking into getting this phone and not seen anything about the front camera being visible while watching a film ect. Is there a option to cut the screen short so the camera isn't visible? Wouldn't be a deal breaker to be fair. I'll be changing my Xperia 5 for this I think.

@Tech Spurt I have a question. Do you think clear plastic in the white 2a will turn yellow? Clear plastic cases do that. So just wondering what’s your thoughts on it .

That's not the same. Cases are made of TPU not plastic. TPU is yellowish. So after a period of time the chemicals that make it look clear will disappear.

My Samsung Galaxy note 20 Ultra just dies (it still works, but the screen is kind of dead), and someone mentioned this phone to me. This video may have convinced me to get it. I just need to get a case with it. I was originally thinking of the Fairfone 5, but I couldn't find any reseller in Portugal not adding a HUGE value on top of it. And right now I'm saving money for other stuff, so I better go for the cheaper option. Thanks a lot.

I think they knocked it out of the park with this one. Phone 1 and 2 were too expensive in my opinion for a new brand but this 2a is priced extremely competitively, and probably has the best design and cameras in this segment. The back design is lickalicious - Great job by the designers - and unique. I think they will sell a boatload!

I mean hardly nobody use those anymore in 2024. Phones have plenty of storage and most people who need more go for the higher option or pay cloud storage. If we need to transfer we use OTG it's more practical than microsd anyways

By not giving what they wants is a gesture of violating their right. A child will cry if you take away his toy, even the one he is not playing with. You see Apple stand their ground since day 1, you don't see iPhone user ask for expendable memory, because they never had one. No, I'm not praising Apple, i too would like expendable memory and an audio jack. But i will not crying like a child condemning those companies that don't provide those. I will look away and buy the phone I'm comfortable with instead.

OTG get hot and drain battery, literally there's no way you can justify the removal of SD card slot, you CAN have both cloud storage and SD card slot and you should but all these mainstream brands keep getting greedy by removing hardware feature and offer to sell you the solution.

I think Nothing has the correct idea with the smaller camera bump. By end of next year that will be the next trend that everyone will be attempting. Zero camera bump.

Considering it's just right to play Genshin, yeah it is. Personally wish it upgraded a bit to 8200 so we can play it on high settings with stable FPS and acceptable temps while still accessing all the fun Nothing features.

I never ever have my phone face down, so Glyph feature is useless...Biggest let down is the 6.7 inch screen, wish it had been 6.2 inch...Shame the volume buttons on the Black model, didn't come with white buttons...I so wanted to buy this when i 1st saw it weeks ago...Just not now!!! 😞
