Hello everyone hope you are well ! in todays video in Microsoft flight simulator 2020 we will discuss an in valuable device called the knobster this is also pared with the knobfs software by sim innovations. First we will showcase the device and show a pretty good idea of what this can really do for you esp. in VR. Next we will visit the developer website and go over the cost and the software for the knobster that is free called knobfs as well as show you where to download from. Lastly i will briefly go over how to create new functions for the knobser and show where you can get the custom commands for the json file. ill also show the custom function i created for the kap140 as there is no function by default in the knobfs software. @@2020fsers would you know if there's a place where we could download a Knobster profile for the HPG H-145?

No I don't you would need to create it yourself. Type h145 in the search and it will pull up all the h145 commands and you can search through them.

Just got the Knobster. Pricey but WTH simming ain't cheap. Thanks for putting together the section on adding new functions. I enjoy flying the TBM930 and was looking on how to add G3000 functions. Cheers, Steve

Thanks for the comment ... yes great idea for the g3000 . I have most of that mapped to my bravo I mainly use mine for the g1000 and nav and com freq.

I like watching your talk with your hand when you are using the knobster. I love my Knobster. Yes it is expensive. But if you figure out the cost of a duel incoder. A little IO board. 3d Print a case. and write the amazing software. you are at that cost anyways.

Hey thanks for the comment.. your right about the labor involved. I've had mine for a while now way before knobfs and I'm so glad they added that as a free application it makes the knobster more worth the cost idk if that's a word lol but you understand.

Enjoyed the vid, thanks for the how to. Noticed my knobster jumps by 10 in auto pilot heading mode, gonna try and code for the 3000. It is pricey but we’ll worth it for vr.

Thanks for the comment . If you don't want it to jump that much open the json file and see what commands are bound to the knob there may also be a accelerate added like in the sample json files I showed. You can also try only heading select instead of ap heading and see if that is any different. Anyway yes it's up there on cost but I mainly use it for the g1000 and exit the app. Or I also use it for nav and com freq.

This has been around for awhile. For me, not very immersive having to select each function on the go. I have most of my peripherals set up in the real positions, so in VR I just reach and I’m there. Eg) flaps are where flaps should be, not a button somewhere else lol! I suppose some could find this handy. Good info 👍

Thanks for the comment ... You can diy it but it will not work with the knobfs software . I contacted the developer and that's what they said also it states it on the download page for the application.

@@2020fsers Yes you're right that's what I read just after posting my comment :) Another solution is to flash the DIY with another firmware...maybe using mobiflight...

Yeah I bet they have something proprietary in there so you can't do that. They want you to buy the device so they can keep the software free is my assumption.

And that's the issue with arduino is that you can't look at firmware on a device you can only create and flash what you have . I've run into this with 3d printers and flashing firmware . There's no way to get a copy of the current firmware as a baseline . Well at least none that I know

Thanks for the review. Very helpful. A couple of questions... 1) Can one use two Knobsters, one for each G1000 screen? 2) Will you do a review on using the Knobster and having the detached G1000 into iPad so one can have touch screen and Knobster?

Thanks for the comment . On the 1st question I have no idea lol that would be really cool if that would work but I don't think so . That may be something to ask sim innovations. The g1000 as far as I know you can only pop out the map and not the buttons unless you use air manager which I don't have.

have you been able to get the Knobster to work with the Coronado products, specifically the coranado Avionics like their Garmin 530? I get it to work with the steam gages and other GPS systems on other planes but not coranado's

I haven't flown a carenado aircraft in a while, it works on all the planes that I have tried it on using knobfs and I also tested it on the 530 and g1000 using the wt mods in the marketplace with no issues

I have the Logitech Yoke, switch panel, multi panel and radio stack. In VR I still use these because I can tell what they do by feel. I have thought about getting a knobster specifically for the Garman aviation panels. In your opinion is it worth it for such a limited scope?

Thanks for the comment ... ok so in my opinion it all depends on the flying you do . if you have a dual encoder knob on your logitech stuff then you could always program that knob for the garmin .. now for that you may need spad.next I use it and love it and you can program any knob or switch to do what ever you want. If you don't have a dual encoder knob on your hardware then maybe it might be worth it to you. The value is all in what a person thinks it's worth to them because as I stated in the video it's definitely not worth the cost for the hardware but is worth it to me for vr because Noone else has anything like it. I hope that helps and doesn't make your decision harder. I won't ever tell anyone to buy something because you have to make that decision and feel good about it otherwise you will always regret it.

Do you know if you can have 2 different engine controls EG Honeycomb B and Logitech to use for different aircraft craft both connected such as have HC D set up for a Jet and use it for that and Logitech for C208 and use it as to not having to switch the handles all the time. First World Problems! 😂

Yes I have my airbus stuff set up on the bravo but it would still be the same with this .

Hi, if I understand after buying the knobster, the only program you need is knobfs and you can get it in siminnovation. And presently I use the mouse to push the knob to switch between com 1 and com 2, is it already in the program or I would have to set it up like you showed. Thank you and have a nice day.

Yes the only thing you need after you purchase the knobster is the knobfs application. You may need mobiflight also I can't remember off the top of my head but that's free if you do need it but I don't think so. Many things are already set up like comms so you set your com freq. With the inner and outer knob and press in to switch between standby and active. It's very intuitive. Thanks for the question .

Totally unrelated question but if I have been playing MSFS free on game pass and I decide I want to upgrade but I want to do it through steam do you know if Ill still have my planes/airports I purchased while originally playing through game pass? Thank you!

Is it possible to make the knobster working with the 2 knobs of the TSC G3000 on the TBM930 ? I'll appraceated if you have a solution !

Yes you just need to figure out what the knobs are programed as and then create a script like I showed in the video and give it a name . Use that website to figure out the knob programming . Do you use spad ? If so you could create a new profile and use knobster to try out different lvars . It's gonna be trial and error .

I'm not familiar with programming and I tried with the Mobiflight that I have inserted the name in the KNOBFS TBM930 Asobo file; and the new script in the KNOBFS Modes list file by modifying one of them that I have made a copy of it, by changing words as this : "name": "G3000_TSC_1", "minor_cw_code": "(>H:AS3000_TSC_Horizontal_1_BottomKnob_Small_INC)", "minor_ccw_code": "(>H:AS3000_TSC_Horizontal_1_BottomKnob_Small_DEC)", "button_released_code": "(>H:AS3000_TSC_Horizontal_1_BottomKnob_Small_PUSH)", "order": 501107 But it even never show up in the list of choice when playing the game. (Excuse my english !) It'll be appraceated if you could make a video with the same instruction you did with the KAP 140, but this time for the TBM930 TSC Knobs !

Yea it hurts. I have had mine for a while now over a year . The free application is free for the knobster and should be for the price lol. But I will say is awesome in vr but the value for the device is not there .

@@2020fsers I'm reading now that the V2 version of the Knobster is required to use the VR software; that is, the earlier former Knobster or DIY knobs will not function with the VR software.

Yeah I feel bad for the v1 customers that don't have this capability
