I worked temporary jobs in Washington. My favorite pass time was riding the ferry. I crossed on the Hyak more than once. Of all the routes Bremerton to Seattle was my favorite. So many memories.

Three of my most frequent routes were Port Townsend-Keystone, Bremerton-Seattle, and Mukilteo-Clinton. Quite often would visit my son and his fam in Bremerton, then my wife would want to do some shopping on Beacon Hill and Southcenter Mall and so instead of driving 60 miles down and around we'd take Bremerton-Seattle ferry. Only way to go; the price is competitive with the $ spent on gas to drive the 60 miles down and back up, which I always dreaded -- and the ferry ride didn't take any longer than driving down and around. Unfortunately, like most things, the pandemic took a toll on the system and now WSF is barely functioning -- with only about 2/3 of the fleet running and a dire shortage of manpower -- and a cost which almost makes it not worth it.

very nice vid! If i had to go to seattle I would always time my schedule to try and ride the Hyak. It was spacious, seats were soft and cozy, and was just an overall joy to ride. the Chimacum is one of the newest in the fleet, and I was excited to ride it when it was new, but its not as "open" inside and the seats are rock hard.

It’s too bad you didn’t see the deck hand that ties the ship off with a single swing of the rope and gets a full wrap and 2half hitches. You can tell he’s done it a few times.

@@cdamauser1963 every street is now littered with homeless people in tents as far as the eye can see. Also Amazon and all the massive tech companies are bringing in many wealthy families and couples, increasing the wealth gap essentially. Rich people sit in their mansions and have a view of tent city, kinda ironic. The city isnt a small town anymore, with almost all the mom n pop stores leaving due to crazy high downtown seattle rent prices.

Is no one planning to mention the fact that the Foot Ferry and indoor walkways reek of human urine and body odor?? It’s Notably awful. Oh, it’s Seattle - so it’s not mentioned. I forgot.

The ferries are disgusting. They need to remodel and rebuild them. It feels like a mens locker room. Sweaty and stale.
@colegarthwaite56334 жыл бұрын
ya sure lets just spend a billion dollars remodeling all the ferries lmao. they transport passengers well, are quite low maintenance, and can withstand 200+ mph ocean/salt water winds. The ferries are designed with functionality in mind, not beauty or form.
