Supreme Court Justice Samuel Alito not only doubled down on blaming his wife for flying an upside-down American flag over their house shortly after the January 6 attack on the Capitol, but reportedly further explained that it was part of a spat with an anti-Trump neighbor. Mark Joseph Stern, senior writer for Slate Magazine, and Elie Mystal, justice correspondent for The Nation, talk with Alex Wagner about Alito's repeated debasement of the Supreme Court's integrity and the necessity of congressional Democrats to find a way to rein in rogue justices.

Both him and his wife should be tried under oath, see how fast he refuses. The POTUS has now 2 active judges displaying partisanship. I think it was more in response to the anti Trump sentiment and swearing on the lawn signs but either way shouldn't be the best go to when it comes to responses at a judge's home. A judge must be impartial and the family should do their best to do the same.

@@dreamshop6071 At this point it is the only way to fix this. These corrupt judges are impossible to get rid of and they are there for life. Until we can get a Congress to agree to term limits on judges, or the ability to oust corrupt judges we are stuck with them and their bad decision making. The only way to counter that is for Biden to appoint some judges who will not put politics ahead of the law.

@@dreamshop6071 historically SCOTUS has been larger in the past. It will allow democrats to bring back balance to the courts so they are not leaning too far one direction. But impeachment of Thomas and Alito for blatant support of an insurrection and refusing to recluse themselves while simultaneously denying the people of the United States a fair and speedy trial for the president that caused J6 with known lies. Can not be allowed to continue. All of current SCOTUS need to see that there are repercussions for going rouge. Being openly political. Deny us answers before the election. As a supreme court justice he should have enough common sense to understand this symbolism and bias has implications and more importantly it solidifies most people's opinion that the supreme court is certainly tainted. We cannot trust the Supreme Court to enforce the Constitution under these circumstances. If he's willing to allow this flag in front of his house that means he will never be objective.

Justice Abe Fortas honorably resigned during 1969 for far lesser grounds when legal ethics meant something. Alito's (and Thomas) proven inexcusable political-controlling biases and disqualifying financial conflicts of interests should cause Chief Justice Roberts to immediately demand their resignations. Their violative removals should also result in justly setting aside each and every SC decision in which either actively attempted to influence tainted rulings which involved advancing their self-political or financial agendas. As Alito was the later identified Justice who leaked a draft alleged majority decision in Dobbs one month before the actual final SC decision was issued, which overturned Roe v Wade, that decision certainly must be set aside and a re-hearing legally required. Notably, Alito's removal results in a 4/4 tie vote (Roberts switching) further requiring a Dobbs re-decision on whether to reverse Roe v Wade, which must be reinstated until that later re-decision. Oh what a tangled web we weave, when first we practice to deceive. (Sir Walter Scott 1808).

I used to chalk up my various disagreements with supreme court rulings as me not fully understanding, I naively had faith in them being impartial/objective etc, but no more. I now see them as ridiculously embarrassing and lacking moral compass and whenever I bump into the words 'supreme court' I instantly equate it to meaning morons.

Unfortunately, the sainted "founding fathers" designed a system whereby Supreme Court justices are in office for life. Who knew 240 years ago that people would one day regularly live past 45 years of age? We need a constitutional amendment to change the justices' terms to 10 years.
