I have been cross-examined a lot (as a cop) and have done some cross-examination of others myself. When it comes to criminal cases, cross-examination of state's witnesses is rarely case determinative in favor of the defense. The defendant is usually a bad guy or so accused, and jurors don't like bad guys. Cross-examination of state's witnesses makes less difference than Melber makes it out to be.
