I never recognized as a kid how much effort must have gone into these Hercules movies. You've got large sets, huge styrofoam sculptures, scale models, a lot of costumes, ships, lots of extras, people set on fire, horses in a cave dragging flames behind them, and Hercs body oil which was still probably the majority of the budget.

30:58 is perhaps the best "Uranus" gag, especially because it's subtle. When the woman says, "the children are dedicated to Uranus", Crow looks at the lady, turns to Joel with an arm raised, and then lets it go and moves on to the next joke. Wonderful.

Justin Kalman I get the feeling the writers just weren't sure what to do with her, but they wanted to keep her so that they had a female character (this would be pre-Pearl).
@darthclide7 жыл бұрын
AlmostWorthless The irony being they love to rant and boo supposedly "sexist" (I dont believe this word is accurate) themes in movies, yet this show is primarily male. For the record, I truly believe Pearl was simply a feminist driven decision. You see it all the time in shows made recently, with movies like the Ghostbusters remake being the most obvious. Although I can complain about this stupid crap of putting women on shows as a neon sign that says "We aren't sexist! Really! We aren't!" I can at least be happy if people are consistent. That is, the MST3K reboot is scheduled to have Felicia Day as a host, so they won't be hypocrites when booing and hissing the evil 50s white man.
@timcallender9997 жыл бұрын
No, really the problem was that Jim Mallon couldn't keep doing the Gypsy voice for any length of time. Add in all the screen real estate Gypsy's silhouette takes up - Joel has said on a number of occasions that he always thought the silhouettes were too big.
@JamesWVanFleet6 жыл бұрын
Don't you think it's equally likely that they went with Mary Jo because she was already a part of the writing staff and had already played roles on-screen and through voice-over? Mike advanced from head writer to star after Joel left. Kevin advanced from Cambot to Tom Servo after J. left (and later became a segment director (and then Bobo)). Even Corbett did some previous writing contributions before taking center stage after Trace left. The show always promoted from within. If they would've hired from outside or made more of a point out of her femininity, I could see your point, but Mary Jo becoming a Mad isn't at all inconsistent to how the show operated.

As a Greek Myth enthusiast, it always amazes me how watered-down movies make Hercules. The man held up the sky for Atlas! He impressed the Amazonian warrior women into surrender by flexing! He squeezed a lion to death then tanned the invincible hide to wear as armor! He rode with the Argonauts, went to the underworld on more than one occasion, and rounded up ferocious man-eating sun-steeds to use as plow-horses! He can bend bars with a twitch of his finger. C'mon, guys.
