Maracaibo still spits out the oil and so much of it has been extracted that Maracaibo is now like a New Orleans and below sea level.

In 1928, Standard Oil of New Jersey took the company over and Creole was, for a while, the largest oil producer in the world. It went defunct in the mid-70s after Venezuela nationalized its oil production. And the lake was FAR wider than "Jim" suggests.🤣
