Wife wrote her Master's thesis about those ponds. Probably not iron pits, but just subsidence of the eroded materials off the mountain, and there's limestone underlying. The trails were ATV paths 15 years ago.

I don't feel confident hiking off trail in nature preserves. I'm sure I would get lost and they would find my dead body months later. So thanks for taking me along on this adventure. And the closeup of the dragonfly was amazing!

Ohhh loved the ponds. would be fun to have an underwater cam to see what in the ponds. That huge dragon fly was unique. I've never seen one that huge and I am 69 this year. God Bless 🙏🙏🌺🏞

There's some amazing ponds on the west side of mt Cydonia sand quarry on 997...those ponds can be accessed by following the trail along the creek...several of those ponds hold extremely large bass...

I kept waiting for the creature from the black lagoon to pop out. That one pond with the glass like surface and the other side of it was stagnant was beautiful. I never saw such a big dragonfly. As you were walking down the road near the end it looked like something was crossing the road way behind you. I noticed it a couple of times a certain way you were turned. Probably just my imagination, but you never know. This was nice, even with the bugs.❤❤❤

Surprised by all the leaves on the ground, means you aren't sneaking up on anything unless it is deaf or dead. And yes place like this tend to be bug heavens which often means being eaten alive. Be nice to the bumble bee.

the bugs were rather pesky. I guess because the ponds are seasonal turtles and frogs don't live in them
