I think Seth really has the right of it. Commander Clash the podcast is very concerned about board wipes and strong targeted removal spells. Commander Clash games just don't play out that way. They prefer to be proactive and generally don't play a lot of removal. That inconsistency seems like it drives a lot of the meme comments.

That's just the content creator meta. Their aim is to entertain first and foremost -- winning and playing tuned or optimal deck lists are secondary.

Tbh I think they kind of were wipe heavy during previous seasons on MTGO - maybe it was just feeling because we saw cards in hands, it is much better now when they play paper magic

I mean Leo wasn’t an assassin but he’s basically your best friend in AC2 and AC:brotherhood. His relationship and bond with Ezio is one of the most charming things to have came out of the AC series, definitely like a top 10 bromance in gaming.

Notably for the Crystal Skull, Isu Spyglass & Jodah conversation, Jodah requires casting from hand to cascade. Playing from the top of the library wouldn't trigger Jodah.

No the point is that exiling *your own creatures incidentally* (or artifacts/enchantments) means you can't recur them later, which ruins the card advantage you could get if you wrathed the board with something else. It's not about exiling the graveyard, it's about not sending stuff to the graveyard you want to bring back later. It's really not that difficult to understand if you took 5 seconds to think about it.

@@adamhenwood1114 So if you have artifacts, don't exile artifacts, if you have creatures, don't exile creatures. If you have Artifacts, Enchantments, and Creatures, then sandbag those spells until after you can exile your opponents' boards. If you're going to die if you don't exile your own stuff, then boo-hoo, you don't get a one-sided board wipe for 6.

(Though it wouldn’t be the first time one of them misread a card) But still, how often are you gonna be in a position where you both feel compelled to snap off a Farewell, but at the same time your own board is full of things that it would be intolerable for you to exile?

@@iambensummers ok... fine... but that only works right up until you need to remove the board's creatures while you're playing a creature deck, when on the other hand you could cast e.g. austere command, wrath the creatures (including your own) and then use the many white graveyard recursion options to get your creatures back.

I find it even more strange that Caduceus has the old Serra Ascendant templating than modern cards having the word Commander on them. It's so overt that Caduceus was made for commander that it makes me roll my eyes a little bit.

Smoke Bomb is effective against that new simic bird everyone is talking about. Your opponent tries to storm off with Shuko or Aphetto Alchemist or whatever -- and you say "NA DU-de!"

Smokebomb is more about targeting other people's interactions I feel. It *can* save your stuff, but it would be better denying your opponent's things. There's more than enough one mana protections to protect your single target things if that's what you care about.

If you have stuff on the battlefield it will get exiled and you can't reanimate it even if you're a graveyard deck

Love smokebomb. Its utility increases if you have ways to recur artifacts at instant speed from your graveyard like Goblin Welder, Goblin Engineer, Emry or such.

Richard should really try the new teyo. It’s like the perfect Richard card. It comes down, makes a blocker so it’s hard to kill, then tricks people into bot killing it by giving them cards before finally preventing the biggest hoard from coming at you for 2 straight turns. Card is crazy.

I watch this channel for richard. His strategic theory concerning commander over all makes the most sense to me and ive become a better commander player because of him. He taught me to treat commander as its own format and not just modern with two more opponents.

Ballad of the Black Flag might actually be busted in Vadrok. It draws you into your combo artifacts (Eye of Ramos) while filling the yard and also discounts both them and Vadrok for your combo turn.

If you really wanna run a colorless utility land you should run Hall of Tagsin. Create a powerstone token and you can use THAT to pay for activated abilities (or to filter through the Hall) .

You should absolutely run Farewell in decks where you care about your graveyard. Just don't choose that mode if it's not helpful to your game plan. Farewell is amazing because you don't have to use every mode.

Crystal skull playable in my urza deck. Its not the cedh version but still pretty strong casual. It tends to durdle a lot because I'm not running the stax stuff that makes it more viable as a fringe cedh deck (because i like my friends) but it would be nice to play off the top of the library with the crystal skull effect.

There's a weird little common from the Assassin's Creed starter decks that I desperately want to see someone (probably Tomer) absolutely mess somebody up with on Clash: Battlefield Improvisation. This card can attach all of your equipment to SOMEONE ELSE'S attacking creature! In the right circumstance you could kill somebody completely out of the blue with one of the weirdest alley-oop moves ever. (And for Richard -- you could flip your Dowsing Dagger without even needing your own creature!)

I think the non-Tomer crew needs to start looking at *all* nonbasic lands the same way y'all looked at Abstergo Entertainment here, or how you admitted you look at something like War Room. (or maybe not quite all, but outside of, like, the og duals and shocks and maybe the battlebond lands) If you're never going to use the upside on a non-basic, or if the upside isn't relevant to your deck, or the cost isn't worth the upside, then a basic might actually be better - particularly if you have any synergy pieces for basics, or if it would then make those pieces stronger than alternatives in your deck. Or it might not, but it's worth more consideration than it gets.

I have cracked how WOTC prices one-time graveyard hate. It costs half of its corrusponding boardwipe, plus one mana for any upside. For vanilla mass graveyard hate, it's Thraben Charm/Relic of Projenitus vs Wrath of God/Damnation. Crypt Incursion is half of Fumigate. Abstergo Entertainment is half plus one of Time Wipe since it has the upside of being a land. Boggart Trawler is half plus one of Wrath because it's a land and targets a player. It generally checks out! It's also my case for Abstergo being a great graveyard hate spell.

How does Smoke Bomb work with aristocrats? Cards like Phyrexian Altar says "sacrifice a creature", so I assume you just select without targeting. Am I correct?

Caduceus is not Mithril Coat to me. Mithril Coat has flash and ETB snaps on for free to a legendary creature, which I think is the real draw of it. The lifelink is also beat out by something like Shadowspear or Basilisk Collar too. +5/+5 is pretty cool, I suppose, considering that + the lifelink it can help you stay above 30 life. I went back and forth on it in Karlov Voltron, but I decided against it because in the end, it's 5 mana total for a relatively tame boost (compared to how massive Karlov can get for less mana), below-average protection, and lifelink.

I'll be completely honest with you, the last time I saw a vehicle in Commander it was Shorikai, and that barely counts because the vehicle aspect of the card didn't even matter. I feel like Deluxe Dragster could probably be used to effective results.

I think they see an appropriate amount of play. There's not a lot of Sagas/Vehicles and most of them are scaled to Limited and 60 card formats so the pool of playable cards in Commander is shallow.

@@imaginarymatter I'm not sure that's really true anymore. There are a LOT of sagas and they grant a lot of value. I think we just view them as worse because we can't usually choose their modes and they're slow. But are they not essentially planeswalkers without any of the drawbacks they have in the format?

My guess is yes because those cards state “equip creature 0” meaning the legendary component has been removed as a replacement effect. They do not say “equip costs are now 0”.

@@grizum4420 I am merely talking about the five color argument, there is always a base color and it's easy to have perfect mana and some utility lands. Probably not richard level but you can include colorless lands in 4 color plus decks.

Tomer I ended up cutting all basics from my Tribal Tribal deck because I'm tired of getting color screwed in that deck and it's soooo color greedy. Other than that, I'm a big believer in running basics and never run a three color deck without 5-7. My 5C Seb McKinnon tribal deck runs 8.

Yup same, I have 11 turn-1 plays that need colored mana and I've left out most fetchlands to reduce shuffling. I'm still going up to 5 though to run viewpoint synchronization, casting it turn 3 is pretty easy.

Of my decks that I primarily use, the only ones I wouldn't fit Excalibur in is Ojer Axonil because if I am attacking you with that deck something has gone wrong.

But... Axonil's ability is based on it's power. If your list is that tight, sure, it would often be an awkward card, but are you really that certain you don't want to be turning pings into 14 damage to face?

Abstergo Enttainment can go in an Ur Dragon deck. Each legendary in the gy is a huge threat and gy hate that advances the dragon plan is hard to come by

I feel like the framing of the comment on Farewell missed the point. The problem isn't that people thought you guys were literally talking about Farewell when you meant it as a catch-all term for removal. The problem is that "This gets Farewell'ed" is the 2024 equivalent of "Dies to Doomblade". It's an easy way to dismiss cards without really engaging with them. Every card has some kind of counter or way of dealing with it, but that doesn't mean that cards can't be still be good. I'm not suggesting that you have to Magic Christmas land new cards, but I feel like you need to be able to address what they can do and whether or not they are good without bringing up how they can be countered/removed.

Farewell this and Farewell that... tbh I don't see it much played... I was all for it at first but then having to exile my own stuff as well means a lot of times it just prolongs games too much... I prefer targetted stuff or board wipes you can fine tune or play around, like Austere Command, or destroy-type ones where indestructible really shines as an ability.
