It is extremely important to discuss politics and trans agendas in this country. However, it’s always nice to just have discussions about other things not so heavy and activating. There is a balance to everything. Christ always wants us to love each other and fellowship.

I’m a Baptist, and Mother Natalia’s explanation of loneliness and anguish being a reminder that this life isn’t our home was so helpful. I’ve been recovering from a very sinful and worldly way of life and I’ve felt worthless and unsaveable lately. This was such a good reminder to me.

So many pieces of this episode cut thru my heart when I was least expecting it. I’m very much in need to rewatch. The imperfect humanity of these individuals shows so sharply and evidently at times, it becomes impossible not to see God working thru them. It’s almost like God wants us to lean onto our weaknesses so that there’s no doubt it’s Him behind it all. I’ve been struggling quite a bit these days, and this has been such an ointment to my overwhelmingly aching wounds. Thank you so much!

Mother you have NO IDEA how much I needed to hear that explanation of why the Lord gives us that penetrating loneliness that is crushing and I’ve been experiencing every few months. And like father I feel like I won’t make it the next day, I almost wish I won’t make it the next bc I just want to be with the Lord in heaven. It is exactly what you said, the anguish we feel it is a reminder that we don’t belong here, that we have been made for eternity. Thank you, thank you! God bless you all. God bless Pints abundantly. Thanks Matt for the amazing work you have been doing with your podcast. I remember so vividly the first time I came across your podcast almost 4 years ago have not stopped listening since. 🙏🏻✝️

Praying for you, dear one. Not to contradict Mother Natalia, but to add something that has helped me: Peter Kreeft wrote something about how we learn things here that we carry with us to heaven. There are things to learn here that can only be learned HERE, so if God has us where we are, it’s because He wills it and wants us to fully engage wherever He has us. It put the whole “live in the present” thing on overdrive for me. I desperately want Heaven NOW, but I’m learning to trust that what I have right in front of me is part of the whole story. Does that make sense? I hope that’s helpful, if not feel free to disregard! 🥰

As a new Catholic, I'm learning to view my marriage and family as a vocation. That Bishop was right, the sex, as good as it may be, is not enough after a while if that's your primary goal. Satiating cravings of any kind is never enough if your cravings are your god. As gods, they demand and demand, and demand some more. My calling to my family is higher than all that. I have a duty, a job to do, to love my wife and kids and lead them to the Lord. That's a high responsibility that I don't feel up to most days. By the grace of God, I'll fullfil my calling.

What a beautiful converstation. The question at 1 hour 38 minutes (addressing past sins) and Mother Natalia's answer really hit me---she says we think "if I can just do enough good deeds then I'm lovable...but it's neigher our sin nor our good actions that define us, but the fact that we've been loved into existance".

Sr. Natalie has spoken directly to my heart in each episode she's been on. Thank you so much for these conversations. As an SSA person, although I think I might be called to some sort of religious life, I also know that it's likely that it isnt in God's plan for me. Something about the things she has shared across her visits both makes me sad that I may never have the opportunity to really discern if that could be for me, but I see the richness of opportunities outside of that lifestyle more clearly now.

I know that spiritual darkness/dryness, days when I feel that I'm barely holding to my faith by a thread but in saying that, in using that image, my mind goes to the woman who dared/hoped to touch the Lord's cloak and I find it in me to hold on and climb back

Fr. Michael, your comment about loving the woman for whom you have feelings by doing what is right and holy resonated greatly with me. I recently came back to the Catholic Church and started watching Catholic KZfaq and found Pints with Aquinas and Matt Fradd. my initial reaction to him was not entirely favorable as I watched some of his earlier videos and talks. But I kept watching because he had very interesting guests. as I've gotten to his more recent stuff I've been amazed to see his development as an interviewer and a person. Usually pubic persons begin humble and become arrogant and cocky but in the viewing I've done Matt is the opposite of that. Any cockiness that he had at the start seems to have been dissolved and now his comments and thoughts are so inspiring, humble and helpful. It's really profound to see someone's process of sanctification in interviews recorded over the course of several years. Really appreciate the conversations you're putting out!

It struck me into a memory as you guys spoke of Turkish hair culture. When I was in Iraq there were a lot of Turkish barbers at the bases there and they are absolutely fantastic barbers. They groom the male head/hair head and hair like nothing any American has ever experienced. I actually looked forward to going to the barber there. I actually fell asleep in those chairs from time to time. There are some tremendous barber traditions among the barbers I met there from India too. We in America have NO IDEA how well cultured barbers are from over there.

For the carmelite comment: from a carmelite friar. A monastery of Carmelite nuns are not supposed to be more than 21 nuns. Originally Holy Mother Teresa wanted only 13 in her first foundation Saint Joseph's Carmel in Avila. But during her lifetime she conceded to the number 21. When a monastery reach this amount and another candidate presents herself, she either is refered to another Carmel, or the monastery in question ask for dispensation to receive the candidate, in view for a future foundation. The idea of a limited amount of nuns is to foster a family spirit. St Teresa in her original community (Incarnation monastery in Avila) had around 200 nuns plus servants (of the rich nuns) and borders running around. She wanted to secure silence, family spirit, and to ensure everybody gets to eat.

On the note about doubting one's vocation: It's called perseverance for a reason. Because you'll want to quit. If you felt like a kid in a candy story all the time, what virtue is that? Is that maturing spiritually? No. But trusting that what God has called you to is the best thing for you, that it will lead to your fulfillment, even when it's hard and you want to give up, that's where growth happens.

Thank you for openly touching the topic of loneliness. This is very important for me and rarely guests here talk about it (I would love to watch an interview with a joyful, self-confident, mid-old, secular, single man about loneliness and spiritual life without bitterness) 1:02:30 "You're tempted to dating, not marriage. You want to date. You want to pursue a girl. You want a girl to show you affection and attention... I don't want the deeper things." A great thought I need to reflect upon. I think understanding these desires is crucial to live a full life as a single man, without grudge and despair. I appreciated Father Michael sharing his experiences and struggles.
