Tractor Time with Tim installs the new step for the John Deere 1025R from Bolt On Hooks. This new step bolts to the loader mount in less than 30 minutes! The 6" drop reduces the first step height to about 14" from 20" making it easier to get into the seat. The step has a large 4-1/2" x 4" non-slip step area and doesn't interfere with other accessories or implements. This is another great product from Ken at Boltonhooks.com!

Two observations: (1) Don 't use a torque wrench to loosen tight bolts. (2) After torqueing the bolts down, you should go back and do them one more time. You might be surprised that more often than not they will actually torque down a little more.

There are different types of torque wrenches. SOME....will work in the OFF direction and SOME WON'T. This type is needed to check existing torque which can be important at times. It's common in the aircraft industry. Generally though if it isn't one of those it can damage the internal mechanism. Best practice is to use a breaker bar to remove bolts.

I noticed especially on the center bolt, when using the torque wrench, after you heard the click, you kept on turning the bolt. I usually go slow when I know I am approaching the torque setting, so when you hear the click, you stop immediately. Also, when tightening multiple bolts on the same assembly, I usually set up the torque wrench to 1/4 of the full torque and tighten all bolts, then set to 1/2, then to 3/4, then full torque. This way the entire assembly is seated correctly, and you do not have one bolt at full torque and the others are loose. You might be able to speed it up by goin 1/2 and then full. I also recheck all bolt torque, to make sure that I did not miss any bolts and that they did not loosen.

Time for you to do a video on the ways to "certify" your torque wrench is still within spec...:)
@rogerhuber3133

Tim, I bought the step and I'm trying to install it. Using a 1/2 breaker bar and an extender pipe the 3 bolts won't budge! Even using my impact wrench and 120 PSI nothing. I've been soaking them with WD-40 and a penetrating oil but they don't budge. Is it possible some tractors used left hand threads on these bolts? Mine is a 2015 1025R. Any ideas?

I bet there isn't a John Deere mechanic out there using a torque wrench on those bolts. They are just zipping them on with an impact. Been a mechanic for many decades, trust me they don't have time for that.

@@kdeckster that is true. Most techs are paid by the job. The faster they are the more money they make. Shops pay them this so when business is slow they don't pay the techs anything.

So ken’s site said it may interfere with the load n go for the 60d deck. Have you been able to confirm this? Did you have to raise the step up a notch?
@TractorTimewithTim
@TractorTimewithTim 3 жыл бұрын
mine does NOT interfere...it depends upon the adjustment of the mower deck. Mine does not raise quite as high as some others. Even so, if you have issues, you can move it up one hole as Ken states.
@mattramsey9158
@mattramsey9158 3 жыл бұрын
So it doesn’t interfere with attaching and detaching the mower deck with load n go just parking the tractor with deck fully up possibly?

I must have been one of the first people to get the step for my 1025R last year. I got it from Mudd's Customs and it has saved a lot of wear and tear on my knees. I love it. Tim, I just saw something about the John Deere Load-N-Go (part # BXX10241) at Greenpartsstore.com. It looks like it would make 60D mower maintenance a lot easier to manage. Any chance you could beg, borrow or buy one and let us know what you think?? Thanks for your informative vids. Also like how you tie in your scripture at the end to the video subject. Very creative!!

That's a pretty handy step. I don't always get on and off my tractor on the left side like where you installed the step. The step doesn't look universal for right and left. Do you know if JD makes a step for the right side too?
@TractorTimewithTim

The loader hydraulics are in the way on the right side. By the way, JD doesn't make this step, it is sold by boltonhooks.com

Hence the problem of all of the bolts coming loose on dealer installed options. This is a HUGE problem on the Deere machines. Setup techs are not doing a thorough job of installing the dealer installed options.

Hi Tim, enjoy your videos. I also have a 1025R, a 2015 model. I would like to know what you think the RPMs should be set at while using the loader? I set mine at 2250-2300, but I'm not sure this is the best setting. What do set your RPMs at when you are moving material? Thanks, Ed
@TractorTimewithTim

That is fine, Ed. Don’t worry too much about this. Make sure you have plenty of rpm’s to get it done. These machines are made to run full throttle all day long.
