Best show I ever saw was at that bar (the Checkerboard). It was a Lefty Dizz gig with Junior Wells and Buddy Guy sitting in. Wild, wild, wild.

In 1985 or 86 I had taken some UofC classmates to Checkerboard. We had taken a cab but when the music stopped at around 3AM no cabs would come pick us up. Lefty Dizz realized our predicament and we all loaded into his station wagon for a ride back to the old Shoreland Hotel turned into a dormitory. Super musician and humanitarian.

Mick is like a kid in a candy shop when Buddy Guy joins them on stage. What a night! Thanks to whoever thought enough to capture this incredible gathering. It's one of legends of the likes that'll never happen again.

8 years later Steve! This was a planned performance, it wasn't impromptu, doesn't make it any less cool though. Cameras set up inside and outside (if you see the full video, you see the Stones arriving at the venue and getting ushered in, Keith and Ronnie had their guitars with them).

This is great. Love to see ole Lefty Dizz up there. He was a "second tier" Chicago bluesman who played all over in the 70's. I used to see him on Lincoln Ave. all the time. Great guy. We shared many a drink together.

Ah nobody can SHOW Keith how to play Buddy Guy is the best blues player alive no doubt but you cant teach a master guitarist shit. The stones saved the blues when everyone abandoned these unbelievable musicians for rnr in the early 60s and 70s the stones kept them gigging in the UK. Fact.
