JR was exceptionally skilled, very confident in having mastered his father’s style and his own ability - the show tried demonstrating that he lacked the killer instinct to compete as a true fighter in this otherwise “serial killer fighting town”. He never experienced a loss (yet) and all his fights have been set in-ring with rules and ample training time and recovery. Apparently in Baki-world Japan, you have to be always on your guard, ready to fight like Doppo after getting his hand cut off, or at least recover and train somewhere hidden where no one can take advantage of your injuries (like Dorian’s hideout). After his first L, he went out pursuing Baki’s girl in broad daylight, over and over, basically inviting a fight - ego is involved in all parts, and if he was “serious” about fighting, he would have hidden and recovered. Now after his streak of L’s, it looked like he was ready - only to realize in the end that he was not about that “kill or be killed” lifestyle that his dad had to step in to save him. Writer’s really could have done better though, IMO.

If only he was able to do his PP training with Kozue. He’d have lasted another 5 seconds with Baki.

I always took issue with how Ali Jr. was treated, not just because he was built up to be frighteningly competent or because he's a fictionalized version of a real-life person, but because of all this "he's-a-sportsman-he's-not-prepared-for-life-or-death-fights" crap. A lot of boxers get seriously injured in the ring, and more than a few have even died. Surely an experienced boxer like Ali Jr. would realize what he was getting into and psychologically prepare for it, even more than usual. I'm not saying he has to beat Baki and replace him as the main character, but he could have put up some semblance of a real fight at least.

Y'know, dispite what happened to Jr. at the end of Season 2? Jr. being voiced by Ogie Banks is awesome imo because Jr's VA also voices Luke Cage in Ultimate Spider-Man (2012) and Firestorm from Injustice 2 which is cool imo.

If the character isn't japanese then you can almost know who wins before the fight even ends. The show would have been much better if they put on more effort in most fights if they weren't so much one sided. I mean i know the show is called baki but still.

As much as I love the Baki series, how they treated Jr made me lose respect for the creator. They created such an interesting, charismatic and lovable character (the son of a genius perfecting his father's special martial art and showcasing it's talents to the world), just to emasculate him and turn him into a complete loser. Why build a character up as a rival for Baki's future just to do what they did to him? I feel like it was the creator's way to lowkey spit in the west's face without any of us noticing enough to stop supporting the content. I mean, even though Oliva's from Brazil or something, he does live in the US as well, and look how they have Baki gooning on him in his own prison, lol
