I loved these moments where they would have these heated passionate fights about their opposing ideologies. Scully's right, Mulder can be so blinded by his obsessions that he runs off on a wild goose chase but Mulder himself says it later "you kept me honest, you made me a whole person" and Scully loves him but she will challenge him in moments like this, and you can see that in the moment he doesn't like it but comes to realize that Scully was exactly what he needed. Mulder wants so desperately to believe that he'll go against that highly intuitive nature and base instincts, and it makes him vulnerable and able to be taken advantage of. And this plays out when Deep Throat tricks him and Mulder confronts him when he realizes. But yeah i loved that they weren't afraid to have these intellectually stimulating debates with each other, because you could see the foundation of their relationship in moments like this. They don't always agree but have a respect, care and admiration for each other as people.

This has always been and will always be one of my favorite scenes between these two. For a moment, I think Mulder's trust in Scully wavers and he feels abandoned. But she tells him exactly what he needs to hear --- making it clear that she respects him and isn't contradicting him for the sake of it. She genuinely cares and just wants to be sure he's not being strung along or taken advantage of. Anyone would be lucky to have a Scully in their lives.
