I joined GB for one set, but immediately sell it due to the flimsy construction and difficulties when mounting stabs. Appreciate their effort for the versatility though.

you can get very inexpensive plastic spudgers/pry tools that shouldn't scratch up other plastic like metal does. they are pretty essential for getting open anything with plastic clips, makes it much much easier. a wide wedged one works well for this kind of case compared to the common small plastic picks

I think the issue you had with the usb hub was due to the insufficient power supply. With full rgb on it draws a lot of power. My drop alt also had the same issue so I never turn rgb full on.

waiting for that mk870 video.. right now i have a kbd67 lite and im looking to get a tkl because i need more dedicated keys but havent found anything particularly good in the 150usd budget. the dealbreaker in this keyboard is the cheap build quality (you had a defective usb port, crooked led screen, etc), i also prefer PC plate which i think it would add more flex to the board. i saw a PC plate for MK870 on aliexpress, you should check that out. that xm87 sounds really good btw.

Hi, Mr. Caloy. You said I could convert the 'board into an ISO layout. Does this mean, I can use my ISO keys without having to solder sockets? I have ISO keycaps and that is my preferred layout.

Thank you! As far as I can tell the GG87 has the standard TKL layout with a 6.25u spacebar and 1.25u bottom row mods. I think it's also prebuilt so it comes with switches and keycaps.

The dealbreakers on this board for me are quality control, scuffed oled display, muted sound, and the screwless design which makes it kinda hard to open if ever you want to mod it. Would've wanted to see better flex on this board too haha btw what if you added pe foam to it? It can probably help achieve a somewhat similar poppy sound to the kbd67 lite. Nice video btw!

Thank you! I feel like both the tape mod and PE foam mod would be difficult to do on this board since there's just no room for all of that stuff in the board lol. I might try it in the future but I'm pretty swamped with other video work hehe

You can check out MechMerlin's QMK toolbox tutorial for that. Grab the firmware file from Gopolar's website. The GG86's MCU is the atmega32u4. The physical reset button is to the right of the spacebar switch socket.

The blockers? Yes, you can put switches into those sockets and they do function. You can program them in VIA to be windows keys or anything else.

Nice video man! sorry if I ask out of the box question. Did you feel any problem about previous GMMK Pro mod with PE foam? Lately I want to use the mod with the box included PE foam but Im pretty scared on it might cause any trouble on my PCB. Glad if you want to answer this thanks!

Thank you! The PE foam I'm using isn't the one that came in the box but it's been in there since I published my GMMK Pro video and I've never encountered any problems hehe

@@fajarahmadi6567 Yes, if I remember correctly, it's conductivity of the PE foam that's potentially dangerous and I used a multimeter to test the PE foam included with the GMMK Pro and found it to be nonconductive. So in theory, it should be safe.

Hmm hard to find full-sized south-facing at low prices. For TKL, you could look at the MK870 although I've heard there are versions of it that are north-facing.

You'd have to buy switches and keycaps which would add cost on top of the cost of the keyboard. It's a solid option since it includes everything you need and is relatively easy to assemble. However, be aware of the possibility of cracking keycap stems due to the east/west facing switches.

Durock Lavenders are made by JWK hehe. Most of the other JWK switches I've tried aren't very quiet.

@@CaloysKeyboards By the way. have you tried it plateless? The Gateron Azure switches give a tight fit despite it not having a plate. And it resulted a suuuuuuuper thoccy board. Not sure on other switches tho

@@CaloysKeyboards basically on VIA my keyboard isn’t detected & I can’t figure out where to download the JSON file or if I downloaded the right stuff, I downloaded all the provided stuff regarding the firmware etc. and it still isn’t detecting in VIA

@@earvinsalanga2480 The JSON is on the Gopolar firmware page that I've linked in the description. You'll have to enable the Design tab in VIA's settings then load the JSON from the Design tab. If that doesn't work, you'll probably have to use QMK Toolbox and flash the VIA compatible firmware. Check out MechMerlin's tutorial for that.

@@CaloysKeyboards Yeah I have download and enabled, and it appears under the design tab but when I go over to the devices, it still has the “searching for devices” screen instead of being able to edit my keyboard keybinds :( Can you do a tutorial on setting up this keyboard firmware wise? :((

It's pretty straightforward. MechMerlin's tutorial should be all you need. The GG86's MCU is the atmega32u4. The physical reset button is to the right of the spacebar switch socket.
