This video was created to show how to create multicolored 3D prints using the Prusa slicer manual filament change function. This video also discusses how to design objects to suit the multicolored layer change function. Enjoy!

So awesome! Didn't even know this was a thing on my prusa! I can't wait to try this tomorrow. Just as you described I just want the top layer to be black and the rest the normal color. Can't wait!

Be sure that after you click the Preview button, that you select "Color Print" view mode, as shown in the lower left. My screen was set to "Feature Type" which *looked* like color changes, but was just highlighting the different build aspects of your object. Also, when doing this, if you RIGHT CLICK and drag the slider (in version 2.5 anyway), the top and bottom slider meet up, and you can see what is printing just for that one layer. VERY helpful in determining when the color change should occur.

Just one problem, when you change filament and unpause, it goes to old position and retracts a bit, and the first lines makes zery printing filament..

Wait... no purge block? Wasn't there a hotel full of white in there when you changed to red? Or... i guess it was a negligible amount that was covered up in a second pass?

The prusa actually purges the filament upon the colour change, it even gives a prompt to ensure the colour is correctly extruding before printing! Definitely an awesome feature ive used for lots of prints

Could you change the speed at a certain height midway ?
@engineer3d3 жыл бұрын
Good question, yes you can! With Prusa's newest 2.2.0 Slicer update you can right click on a model and select the "height range modifier" option. This will allow you to adjust settings from a specific height range on the print. You can adjust layer height, speed, infill etc. Hope this helps!

this doesnt work with anycubic kobra 2. the print will pause but you can not change filament or resume the print. just fyi if anyone was looking.

Can you print with two colours on the sane plane (like with the MMU) but changed manually? The part is quite small so I don't mind changing the colours a few times per layer but There is no room to add layers for a colour change
@engineer3d2 жыл бұрын
You may be able to but it would be extremely difficult to time it to pause at the correct moment to change the filament and there is no indication on the slicer to do so either, I definitely would recommend using the MMU for that purpose

you can use different colored parts as boolean and print them seperately without removing the previous print, with this you can achieve different colors on the same layer
@D4RKFiB3R Жыл бұрын
@@stoinercraft6389 How would you go about doing that? Thanks.
@stoinercraft6389 Жыл бұрын
@@D4RKFiB3R Basically, you are going to print one color at a time, but you are not going to remove the previous print. so in one layer, you are laying down few colors. its like multicolor printing but you have only one extruder and many prints xd

Why would there be no orange "plus" on my slider?
@engineer3d3 жыл бұрын
Not 100% sure why yours may not have that, I would maybe try uninstalling and reinstalling/making sure you have the most recent software

does this work on ender 3? will it be on pause till i resume it?
@engineer3d3 жыл бұрын
Prusa just came out with a new slicer version 2.3 that they say is compatible with all printers, I haven't tried the layer change function on a different printer yet however, could be worth a try on a smaller print to test it out!
@dhanushkumar82453 жыл бұрын
Hey, mine is an ender 3 and I want it to pause mid print and be on pause so that I put in a part and push resume print..I have been searching all over not getting a proper idea, do you have any idea on how can I do this in prusa slicer. Anyways will try with a smaller print
