In this video, I go over how to set multiple user profiles on the Oculus Quest! This will allow you to have up to four users each with their own games saves, libraries, and so on. There are a few caveats so be sure to watch the full video. All in all, it works great though and is the only way to get multiple user profiles on the Oculus Quest ATM.

Recently got a quest from a friend of mine and I've been scouring the web to find how to mod and blow the lid out of this thing and now a days everyone either is literally copy pasting what's already out there with nothing to add or spends 30minutes explaining to me how to create a folder. Curiois to know is it possible with having a quest and quest 2 could i set this up somehow to play an online multiplayer game i own with someone else locally using the other helmet? Could it be done using this profile option? Would i need to sign in with separate oculus/FB accounts? I don’t want to buy the game twice but be able to play with a friend setup in another room in a multiplayer game. Thanks

Really sad this doesn't work anymore, is there any workaround? All I want to do is let my family play games that don't have multiple saves, why does Oculus have to be so mean and not allow that :( Sharing the headset is one of its greatest strengths

I've downloaded the settings shortcut app link thru my oculus browser. I opened up the TV app to find the settings link is missing. How do I open the link? Do I use my computer and send it in that way? What am I doing wrong, please help?

I can get to the point that it adds the new user and then shows the fresh Oculus quest user set-up. When I try to sign in on my other account it says an error occurred. I know my password is good though so I don't understand.

Great find. I'm wondering if you can think of any problems that might occur in the future, as the Quest software is updated (possibly to a newer Android version)? Would the user accounts just be carried over or could the addition of additional users break the update process? Also, would you mind making the project files you used to compile the apk available? I'd love to use this for our work HMDs but I kinda need to see what's in the apk to get it past IT. Thanks!

This doesn’t seem to work any more. Maybe something changed in the v13 software update? I am able to create a new profile and the Quest resets and brings me to the initial sign-in / create account screen. I’ve tried logging in using both my Facebook account username / pass and my oculus username / pass but it just says that “something went wrong” and to visit a support web page. I’m using the same account credentials used for the main “Owner” profile. Bummer! Was hoping this would work.

As I understand it, it used to work... but sadly it got patched out of existence :( in case it’s of any relevance to anyone, you can do the opposite and use one account on two headsets and share apps...but then you can’t access most multiplayer (apart from apps with their own accounts like Rec room)..which is why I’m looking at all of this...and sadly concluding that I just need to factory reset my quest, set up a separate account from my son’s and buy the apps again so we can hang out more in VR...Let me know if there’s a new solution though!

Mine is not working too. I try to make another profile and my Oculus realises that its not supposed to have another profile and it just goes to gardian and signa me back into regular acc.

You sir, are a genius! So with another profile, you'd download the APK and it would replace the existing one (similar to an app update), but the app data is stored separately per user? And the home environment is like an Android launcher/homescreen app that just has different layouts or selected apps, etc. I wonder how something like BMBF/modded Beat Saber would go with this. Also, are sideloaded games persistent across profiles?

Yeah, app data is kept seperate and the game itself doesn't seem take up additional space (I added a few big games I already had and my storage stayed the same). I noticed when I sideloaded a game after I added the second profile it was available on both, but not the sideloaded games I installed before adding the 2nd profile. I haven't tried bmbf but don't see why it wouldn't work.

any chance you might have found a way to add a basic android home screen launcher (i.e. samsung galaxy s8 home screen) or a way to multitask (i.e. open streamlabs and record screen(or at least attempt to lol))?

Exactly as I did it but I used firetv settings app to setup additional accounts but I can't get developer mode working on the new accounts. Did you have any problems using developer in the additional accounts Ty?

Hey, is it normal to not be able to see everything properly when looking through the black and white guardian on the Oculus Quest? My Quest is perfectly fine when looking out at my room through the bottom cameras, but it is as if the two top cameras aren't working properly when looking up. It's showing a weird, slightly moving black bar instead of my room about an inch or so in size at the top of the screen - going all the way from left to right camera. Thinking of getting it replaced if this is not normal. Only got it a month ago, but I've had this issue, I think, since about day one.

For me, anything i set in android settings never gets saved after a reeboot. So no new profiles though i get a box that shows the owner user. but that is it. if i go back to android settings all been reset to defaults. v16

Thanks for the easy to follow video! Curious to see if the same oculus account could be used at the same time on two headsets using this strategy. (my headset has games a/b girlfriend's headset owns c/d) wondering if we could use this to play games at the same time by being logged into same profile on two headsets or if it is locked to one sign in per profile.

You can definitely use the same oculus login on multiple headsets, lots of people doing that.

Does this work for Quest 2? I've loaded it and can navigate to the new Settings app, however, the menu does not appear. Is there a setting the needs adjusted? Is there a different app to use for Quest 2?

the settings does not show up in the TV Channels area anymore and the update launcher does not come up in Sidequest. Is their any new updates on this as I want to use the two user accounts so my wife and I can use either account if we want.

so i followed everything, dev mode, side quest, and i have the settings in the tv channel, but when i click on new user. it ask to set it up i click ok and guardian pops up i wither can accept current guardian or create new (tried both) and im back on my main account. i go back to settings thru tv channels and i only have one user.

I just got my Quest (I've been saving for an Oculus for about three years!) I was able to install SideQuest, but despite it saying "sent to Sidequest", the app never appears in my channels section. I believe I have build 17. Do you think they have somehow screwed that up? I was able to install one game from sidequest, but that was with a USB C connector. Anything I've tried to install from within the Quest from the sidequest website never seems to actually install, and your app doesn't install even when connected to the computer and initiated from there. Win10 pro, btw.

Are there some alternative ways to cast rhe Quest? I simply cannot do either to the app, nor to Chromecast. I succeeded for 2 times for a few minutes, but since then just nothing. Any advice? Thanks!

I cannot get this to work. I was able to download SideQuest & the drivers however, the shortcut that you say to download to access TV - channel- add new user. I cannot get that part to load to my quest. Did something change?

Greedy corporate shenanigans I would wager. Multiple profiles means less people need to buy Quests... If it's this easy, I can't think of any other reason; but I'm open to suggestions!! :D

@@anotheratreyu742 Less desire to let people play and mess up your saves means less people hooked by the concept and they won't be buying their own after all. From a greed perspective, it would be best to have profiles by default.

Have you had any issues with the login step after choosing to make a new user? I did everything and it allows me to choose to add a new user. Once it takes me to the login area to connect to my account of Facebook, it shuts down before it allows me to do so. I have the Oculus Quest 1 and 2 and both have this issue. Any ideas on how to fix this?

Has anyone gotten this to work on system version 16? My brother got the second user working on 15 with his new Quest but then it got deleted after he updated to 16. Now he can't complete the process for creating the second user; it just keeps reverting back to single user. A factory reset didn't help.

No longer working as of latest update. Unable to log into an Oculus account on the additional profiles, even the same account the headset is registered to. In fact my menus got borked and had to do a hard reset. Gutted.

Hey, I'm here to comment on this. they added a new feature that is this but official. Go to experimental features. Scroll down to the multiple accounts feature and add it. Click on accounts then add a new account. After that, you will be able to share compatible games and for non-compatible ones, you just have to switch accounts under my profile.

This doesnt seem to work anymore on Quest 2. You get all the way to the part where you have to set up the second account. And then the Guardian set up interrupts you and you get kicked back to the home.

Try going to the settings app, then storage, cached data and then click that to clear the cache.

I attempted to use your app for my quest 2. It wasn't working correctly, so I read the reviews, and did a factory reset on the device in an attempt to clear the cache so the app would be able to work properly. I went back into sidequest to reinstall the app, and I cannot find it. When I click your link, I get a perpetual loading image. Did you delete the app from sidequest?

Great work finding this. I also had the problem of not being able to rename the added user. When using the new profile, and entering the User settings, no keyboard appears when clicking the name.

I used a bluetooth keyboard at first, but after a couple restarts I noticed the regular keyboard would pop up. You can also use the send text feature of SIdeQuest (in the tools section of SIdeQuest).

They need to make it so 2 independent accounts can use/share games on a single headset. Like Xbox or Playstation. If I buy the game under my account, my gf should be able to log onto my headset under her account and still play my games

doesn't seem to work with pavlov (i have 3 quests, want to play pavlov multiplayer with friends - all on same account didn't work - so i tried this multi-user, but pavlov freezes in 2nd user profile.. so next i factory reset and setup quests with separate email addresses..

This doesn't appear to work on the Quest 2. Can you please verify it works with the latest version of Quest 2 and Sidequest? I downloaded and installed the file, and opened it in TV, but it just says settings, and nothing populates.

I get as far as the "Set up Now" button for the new user, then I get black screen with three white dots like it's powering up. It asks me to confirm my guardian and then drops me back to the Users screen, but the new user is gone. Maybe FB found out that people were adding profiles and blocked it in a later update trying to force everyone to buy multiple headsets.

I wanted to make multiple profiles under one account because I vrchat and since I have younger brothers I don’t want them getting into my “stuff”. And since there’s no way to put a passcode on a game I need another account since that’s the only thing you can put a pass code on.

Hey Ty, Thanks for this, but how did you rename the second account on the quest in settings? I can do it for the Primary account when logged in, but not for the secondary accounts. I did try to sideload the settings.apk from Sidequest onto the secondary accounts, but this just takes me to the home page. Paul

I sideloaded the settings app on the other account and renamed it from there.

@@tycotech weird, for me when I side loaded the settings app from Sidequest onto the second account, I don't get the settings, just drops me back to the home screen.

@@tycotech The same thing happens for me as Paul Ryder... The Settings App does not launch from the secondary accounts. It just opens the Home screen.

@@JoshuaJMorgan So I played about and got it coming up on the Secondary account, but only by installing Oculus TV first and opening it through OTV Channels. Although I cannot get a Keyboard to popup when selecting the field. So I still cannot update the name on the account.

Everything works just as you described in the video except I'm not able to complete the process. After opening up the settings app and selecting users, I choose to add a user and it asks me if i want to set up now. Once I choose to set up now, the screen goes black for a few seconds and then I am asked to confirm my guardian. Once I confirm my guardian I am back in the settings section and the only user that shows up is the primary account. I'm in a loop and have done this at least 10 times. I've restarted the device a few times. Its not working..

Same here. Apparently, when they updated Oculus recently, it stopped our ability to do this. Whether this was intentional or not, I don't know. I'm waiting for an update hoping that we will be able to access it. It really makes no sense for Oculus to not allow us to have multiple accounts on the same device like other systems do. This system is far from cheap after all, and having to purchase different headsets or purchasing the apps multiple times makes it not worth the money.

I have a “Quest”tion. If I make a new profile and connect that profile with the same Oculus profile as the first one, will I need to redownload the games again or will they already be in my library. Will there be two copies of the same game taking up space of the quest? Also can I revert everything back to normal if I want to.

You'll need to download the game again, but it will just overwrite the original and won't take up double the space.
