Health of battery is good? How would you know that without a tester? That shit could be dead and still look great

Yesterday was my first day back on campus. We did our 20 point inspection but due to the chaos it was hard to get a good grasp on how to do it correctly.

Always check tightness of battery terminal clamps. I ve seen new vehicles with loose terminals.

You can take it one step further and put a multi meter on it and check the voltage at the terminals, the connections, and all the way back to the alternator to make sure the lines are good. Then turn it on and check the charging.

He is good. But if the vehicle is getting a tire rotation why don't you just check the brake pad life when the wheels are off?
@Mavis308
@Mavis308 3 жыл бұрын
Good point, at the shop I work at, we take the wheels off to check the brakes, regardless if the car is just getting a oil change or LOF/rotation.
@ntomnia585
@ntomnia585 Жыл бұрын
So anyone watching this video will know how to do the inspection when not doing a rotation. Also, suppose a customer blames the tech for cross threading a lug but the tech never took the wheel off. If the customer believes the wheel had to come off for the inspection, then they would be wrong.

How do you know the battery is good without putting a battery tester on it? Plus what about the back side of the brake pads what's that at?

All of that for free,as in the tech gets paid NOTHING for doing this inspection Now just imagine doing this 8-10 times a day do you like working for free? Why do the dealers and manufacturers think the tech’s are fine with not getting paid

You can't tell if a battery is good by looking at for example we replace batteries on new cars all the time, always check if there right you can't tell by looking at them, and that cover is too keep it from shorting out on the hood or anything else that. This guy sounds like a typical lube tech tbh

@Junior Banda I'm a mechanic lol I don't need to know how to spell I need to be able to fix cars which I do everyday. wasn't insulting this guy but there is much disinformation in this industry and a lot of it is spread by techs I hear A LOT of it everyday and the everyday person would never know the difference when they heard it

Funny you mentioned shorting out on the hood. That happened on my first car. Battery hold down was missing. Every time I took a turn the car would stall.

I just want to make one thing clear I was not trying to insult this man, he is an excellent technician and he his on his way to becoming an amazing technician, and all the the misinformation he knows has been taught to him by another misinformed tech. It's all about learning and correcting our own selfs that never goes away no matter how long you've been working on cars. I safety inspect every used that goes on too are used lot at Honda, every make and model. I'm not saying he's a bad technician but he is a lube tech and this is a lube tech inspection. This is by know means a full complete inspection where I would let my mom drive in it. Cars are dangerous and expensive having the right technician do your inspection is SO IPORTANT if you want to actually know what the actual condition of every component of your car. I'm not saying I am the perfect technician and that I see everything or know everything actual way far from, everyday I learn and grow and listen to every tech even ones that has less experience. I listened to what he said and I found a lot of things to be not be true that's why I said something
