#TheOffice is awesome. I'm looking at every episode. I'm giving some background, #trivia, the deeper meaning, and more. Today, we're looking at the #Benihana #Christmas Episode. Benihana Christmas is often listed as one of the best Christmas episodes of the Office! So what makes it so good?!

Daniels on the actress swap up joke:
"A question was asked about the episode "A Benihana Christmas," in which Michael and Andy are seen hitting on two Asian waitresses, only to bring two totally different girls back to the office. Daniels and Celotta explained that as written, the joke was that the two waitresses the guys would first approach would be extremely attractive, only for the audience to then see them come back with two far more homely girls, because the original girls were out of their league. Daniels said he felt they erred in hiring actresses to play the latter set of girls who were simply too attractive. There had been some confusion on the part of certain audience members over this, and some thought the point was to see if the audience, like Michael and Andy, couldn't even tell the actresses apart, but Daniels assured the crowd that the episode, "Wasn't intended to be a test of racism," for those watching The Office."

I just noticed that in the Pilot we see Dwight unlocking one of his desk drawers to retrieve his handset that he disconnected. I wonder if he decided to do that after Jim put all the nickels in it 😅

5:44 Toby's "why..?" is the most memorable moment of the office for me. It's just so perfectly in character. So disappointed but used to it in tone as possible

Stupid scene. Nobody would ever let themselves get walked all over like Toby does and face no consequences. Especially with his gift being stolen

I think Jim did like Karen. He was operating on the assumption that he would not end up back at Scranton (and thus, in the same room as Pam again). Obviously moving back superseded those feelings he had for Karen.

The problem is, they didn't get together until *after* the events of "Branch Closing," when they knew they were going to Scranton. It was at the end of the episode, when Jim decides to go back to Scranton, that he tells Karen she should too. After that, she does the interview and says she doesn't think he's into her but she's into him.

I think he did like her and dating her was a genuine try to move on, not just a rebound or pride, though these definitely factor in. He probably went for it sooner than he might have, if he got to stay is Stanford, in a desperate attempt to get there faster but you can't really fast forward these things.

looking back it annoys me that jim gets a girl like karen and is assistant manager this season...thats too much compared to the slacker average joe feel he had in season 1....they really jump the gun on getting him and pam together 3/4 of a season too early and giving him the assistant manager job too early...it should of been dwight's this season like it was in season 2 then he loses it after he loses angela to show how dwight has to build himself back up that season and then he wins it back to start season 5 until jim becomes co manager in season 6..always felt they dropped the ball on that dynamic

@@razkable the logic of jim becoming the number two makes sense because corporate loved him and he is the only one who worked with both branches. when dwight becomes acting manager after michael leaves and he shoots a gun in the office. he needed to mature before coming into power because it always went to his head before he grew and married angela. jim was a slacker but michael has a mindset of a child and still became regional manager. most of the later seasons compare jim’s antics to michael’s showing that jim is michael but more self-aware. also because jim is the true protagonist of the show, it makes sense things come to him easily.

Benihana Christmas is probably my favorite episode. I also believe there's not a better stretch of 4 episodes than Branch Closing, The Merger, The Convict, and Benihana Christmas.

I did notice the switch. Even though "all waitresses look alike". The waitress that gets Michaels bike, becomes Ben Wyatt"s step mother in Parks And Rec

Omg I am also listening to the "Office Ladies" Podcast with Angela and Jenna! They did a deep dive and it turns out green does mean whorish! Back during the old medieval days in Europe you can tell if a woman was cheating if they came out/home with grass stains on their dress. There's more details but I don't want y'all to read too much!

It took me a moment to catch it: I noticed more that she changed the color... I caught it when Karen looked at the shirt Phyllis was wearing and her jaw fell to the floor

In The Alliance when Dwight and Jim are talking about the alliance, Jim mentions that Angela will probably be fired and Dwight supports it saying that it is “good” so I don’t believe they were dating before Jim’s Barbecue

As an Asian, I picked it up right away. I laughed so hard and loved how subtle it was and then learned that wasn't the intention at all. I was like "oh fuck..." LOL I went through so many emotions.

you guys look prettier...you may be shorter/less skinny but you also have less makeup on and seem more like college age then grown woman so that makes sense I guess but i always thought the other 2 were uglier

Thank you for spreading awareness about these couples @ 03:07, There are people like them IRL, full of ego and self pride, I have seen them in clubs and restaurant so may times, its awful. I hope more people will watch that episode and then listen to your review, OK moving on from rant, I binged watched all your videos on office, since past 4 or 5 days, NICE, :)

One Christmas tradition has been for the Mrs. and I to watch every Christmas episode on Christmas Eve. It makes for an awesome time jump through the series. I haven't decided on my favorite Christmas episode yet though.

its a 2 parter so...and the stuff with mike is classic office...the other storyline makes me sad cause i am a fan of angela over karen and pam but the dwight angela bond is cute

do people really not notice the actresses are not the same? as an asian...from my standing point..they are not even close to be 'looks alike'....beside they are having the same uniform, and roughly same height..and they are all female(assume that what they id with). stop at 2:49 and try to find anything similar...different hair cut, different face shape, different eye, different nose and mouth....

I agree. I'm an Australian and I picked it up instantly. I took the joke as Michael and Andy couldn't get the first 2 women to come to the party so they asked around and these 2 women accepted. I figured it was to show that no matter what they didn't want to go back to the Christmas party without dates. Guess I'm optimistic hehe

@@dianachavez8422 the first 2 women didn't accept so they asked 2 different women who accepted. Then when Michael marks one, its because he is that drunk and still hung up on Carol, that is why he isn't invested in actually remembering either of them, so he forgets what they look like and puts a mark on the one he asked to come, so as to not look like a complete dick. It's not racist. It's just depressing, heartbreaking and sad that Michael is trying to heal and it shows by his indifference after they leave.

I think the Christmas episode where Dewight kept getting Jim with snowball's was the best Christmas episode . Dewight is funny at the beginning of that episode.

Probably my least favourite christmas episode (maybe there are worse ones in season 8 or 9 - i don't even remember if they had them) but yeah. 3/5 is a decent score - I would be leaning more towards a 2.5, but since you don't do halvsies - 3 would be my score as well if I have to round. Also the benihana theme is my least fav one (i just can't seem to enjoy the story with Michael, Andy, and their dates...

Comedy is taking things to absurd extremes, that said I thought it was more showcasing how michael is dumb, drunk and needy in that he didn't know or care which was which. And as Kevin says in the episode "You should know." [which is your 'new girlfriend']

I always thought the joke was that Cindy (the first waitress) is way too pretty to want to go anywhere with Michael and Andy. So Michael has to settle for two lesser good looking waitresses. Which I also thought was a little mean.

The dueling parties is very good and I love Creed here. I get the waitress bit's point but it always makes me a bit uncomfortable beyond cringe comedy purposes. Andy is still kind of the worse. Jim's prank reneg cancels out some solid character growth from Conflict Resolution (and the pranks get serial killer -level psychotic later on) so it always bugs me that they just basically say "yeah, I'm just gonna do it because Jim". Also, Toby doesn't deserve this.

Yup when I first watch this episode I did think that actress swap was a mistake on directors part he forgot who he initially casted so he replaced others instead of them . I hope am making sense

Episodes we were robbed of? Without a doubt it has to be the story of Creed and how he actually came to work at Dunder Mifflin. This could've been amazing as they could have played it so you still don't know if it's his true origin story or just more of Creed being Creed. Tell it like a campfire story that Creed is narrating to the Office.

i feel angela hates half of the people in the office besides ironically ryan...so...she does not hate toby dwight jim roy darryl andy at the time karen and maybe oscar ..theres no way she hates ryan more then a lot of the rest...not in season 3...or kelly imo either...theres pam mike kevin meredith creed..she hates all of them more then ryan...for sure and maybe hates 4 of them more then kelly

This is the episode that showed me how much of a coward Jim is. When coming back to Scranton he does not tell right away to Pam he is dating Karen. And when he does, Pam tells hi they are friends. But the thing is Jim is the kind of guy who does not see women he could date (due to their age and appearance) as friends. He sexualises women. Booze cruise proves it for he calls the woman from corporate and emails her… like a creepy stalker. Jim is afraid of being alone and that is cowardice. And he is a bully. The more I watch the Office the more it is apparent. Now I am watching the superfan versions so I hope it changes my view of him. But I never quite saw what people loved about Jim from the get go. Wow, Michael and Andy couldn't tell their Asian dates apart and used a Sharpie marker on their arm to mark them??! Horrible that the writer of this episode, Jennifer Celotta, would perpetuate the racist stereotype that all Asians look alike for a laugh. That is flat out racist.

@@TheRepublicOfJohn Jim would not laugh to Michael's racist remarks if it was intended to be racist in the show. But Jim laughed with Michael when he said he marked one of them to identify. So I'm pretty sure this is very racist. Like something writers didn't even notice it was racist. This feels very different from other racist remarks from Michael's racist lines

This show is so stupid but also is funnier then alot of shows if you have a real sense of humor...seeing Wegmans products love it too...best Grocery store franchise in the United States.....Dwight is the MAN!!! EVERYBODY LOVES BEETS
