A bride can be indecisive for many reasons, but in this case, it seems like all the indecision might be stemming from the bride's mother!

@@J_acke She could have, yes, but after years of that passive-aggressive (and downright vicious) put-downs, the poor daughter has learned that it's simply easier and safer to just do as her mama says. Just an observation, and certainly not a criticism of the bride, because I was much the same way with my dear little redheaded Southern mama. That's why, when I got married, I was glad she was 500 miles away.

14 years ago my Daughter, Leslie, became engaged. We shopped for the perfect dress. I fell in love with one particular dress that took my breathe away. But, she chose a different dress, a dress I hated. It was hard, but I kept my dislike of her dress to myself and pretended to like it, because she loved it. On her Wedding Day she was stunningly beautiful, in the dress I hated. When her Wedding pics came in, there was that dress, that I hated. One year ago, my Leslie died, in her sleep, from a Brain Bleed. She's gone forever and all I have are memories and pictures. I now cherish the photos of her in "that" dress. "That" dress was the first thing I asked for when going through her things. The dress that I hated, I now cherish. I love it because she loved it. It was part of the happiest day of her life. Mom's everywhere...pretend to like the dress. Don't quibble over the money. Write the check and love the dress because she loves it. Don't forget to tell her how gorgeous she looks and how perfect her dress is. My Leslie, 03/15/21

Mom’s comment at the end about how you don’t “marry the first man you find” makes me feel like she doesn’t approve of the marriage itself. From the get-go, it really felt like she didn’t want to be involved, but couldn’t help herself in being super negative. Really sad. I think the first dress the bride tried on looked the best on her. I don’t get the “junk in the trunk” comment, at all - it’s not like she’s exceptionally curvy, and even if she was, that’s not a bad thing. When you have the right dress for you, it complements your form, whatever body shape you have. Bride really shouldn’t include mommy dearest in any future dress shopping. Not if she wants to have a wedding. May be smart to leave her out of that event too.
@ebony7177
@ebony7177 2 жыл бұрын
Well she said from the get-go "I wouldn't be here if she didn't ask me to be." Because she mentioned that she went shopping with her friends before, mom wasn't involved. She brought mom hoping that she would see something in a dress she was missing. So I agree I think something else is going on and buying a dress would solidify the relationship. Cause I don't think it's her daughter cause she came even though she didn't want to so it makes me think either groom or this relationship hasn't gelled enough for mom that she wants her to marry this guy. Cause mom doesn't seem thrilled in the least that her daughter is about to get married.

agree and mom couldn't have been any ruder to her daughter either. totally negative about the entire thing, nothing was gonna please mom. something else happening but even if u don't agree with her choice she is your daughter no call to act so miserable. my daughter and I walked into the wedding store. looked thru the dresses, she held one up and i picked one. she looked at mine loved it tried it on it fit her like a glove no alterations needed of any kind. she fell in love with it and bought it on the spot. also on sale for $562.00 walked out with the first and only dress she tried on and it was my pick. couldn't get any better than that. frankly i was stunned how well it looked on her and that she loved it immediately.it was gorgeous on her and she was gorgeous already. had lace pearls crystals and 7 foot train with scalloped edges. it was stunning. i would never treat my daughter the way this mother treated her child. shame on her.

As much as I hate the dress she loved, the giddiness in her voice at 5.10 would have completely won me over, you could hear how much she loved that dress. Honestly at the start when the mother was saying it's her choice, the way she said it I was like 'oh FINALLY! a mother who gets it.' But the way she said it to the bride with the 'gahh' at the end just seemed so manipulative to me. Then for the bride to actually get that attitude of 'well I may buy it ' all of a sudden she pulls out money being an issue.

The affordability argument literally wasn’t strong. Their budget was under $2000. The dress was $1200 + veil at 250 + alterations at $400 = $1850. Which is under $2000. Such manipulation. They could have gone to a fabric store and made a veil and sash. Then the price would be $1650. I just feel so bad for her.
@dietotaku
@dietotaku 2 жыл бұрын
and if the price of the veil & sash is that big of an issue ($250 is quite a lot to spend on a veil), skip that stuff and buy it online instead. hell i bought my whole dress online, paid $125 for one that was $900+ in the shop.
@stephaniegingergoddess7751
@stephaniegingergoddess7751 2 жыл бұрын
I have to agree. At $250, that veil is way overpriced. I make veils from time to time that are embroidered with designs of the bride’s choosing. I have a top of the line embroidery machine so I can embroider large designs easily. I also bead them by hand adding rhinestones, beads, and pearls. For that $250 price, she would have had a one of a kind veil rather than a plain satin bias tape edge finish. I can do that finish too. As for the ribbon belt, that was just a piece of luxury ribbon, approximately 3 yards long. I have lots of rhinestone appliqués that would complement that dress beautifully. She could have had a rhinestone appliqué bridal belt instead if she wanted it for around $50. As for the alterations, don’t get them done at the bridal shop as they charge a lot. There are lots of bridal alteration specialist seamstresses that do the exact same thing for very reasonable prices. If I were her, just buy the dress you love and sort the other things out later.

If one's daughter asks for an honest opinion, one should give it as I did. I TRULY do not want her to look back in 20 years and say, "Mom, how could you let me buy that dress? I looked awful." Then whose fault is it. As I said from the start, it's Rene's wedding she should choose what SHE wants, not what I want. But all of us need to know we shouldn't ask for an opinion if we don't really want it. Oh, and this show is very sharply edited and does not portray the fun ALL OF US had doing it. The "crunching numbers" part was so cruel. Normally if you tell the consultant your budget is 2,000$, they will get you a dress that is max 2,000$. If you want EVERYTHING to add up to 2,000$ including alterations, vail and bling you have to tell them a lower budget than 2,000$. The mother had some nerve assuming what the alterations would cost without even asking what the end price might be. Disgusting behavior on her part. Also what junk in the trunk? She looked so good in that bustled dress! The one she really liked made her look dated. She needed something but she loved it. I had this happen to me when I was wedding dress shopping and I got talked into one I did not like and 40 years later it is still a disappointment to me. I feel cheated. Did you find mom's comment on SYTTD Facebook page? "As a loving, caring mother of a future bride I hate being cast as the Bride Mom from Hell. Any brides or moms considering the show should strongly be advised of this fact. Rene looks lovely in the dress she chose and I look forward to seeing her say "I do" in it!"
