Vikings were known throughout Europe as fierce warriors, but among them there was another class of warriors - a wild, wild, and crazy sect of the Norse called the berserkers. The berserkers entered a state of animal frenzy before the battle. These strange warriors were eventually banned, in the Scandinavian Middle Ages warrior culture, but not before they left their mark on history.
How did Vikings become berserkers?
The word "berserker" is derived from the ancient Norse "serkr", which means "coat" or "shirt", and "ber", the Nordic word for "bear" According to the Viking sagas, the Viking berserkers were the best warriors not only for their combat abilities but also for their combat spirits in battle. They joined the battle in a trance frenzy fighting and believing that the gods were watching them. If they performed well in battle, they would have a seat in Valhalla.
