I have a 93 model Subaru Impreza L wagon that Im trying to turn into an STI. Ive already done a face lift to the grille, hood, and headlights. Added a body kit and wing too. As well as a few performance upgrades. I can see how some of those replicas were meant to (unsuccessfully) fool someone... and if that was the intention, they are idiots. For me, its not about fooling people. I wanted an STI, but sadly, $400 wouldnt get me one and some lady at work was selling a 93 L model. Ive always been good with crafting, infact I spent a number of years as the body repair specialist at a local shop where I fixed and fabricated fiberglass and sheet metal parts for the beat up dump trucks. I dont dream of owning "BIG", I dream of doing "BIG". As crappy or stupid as some of those cars looked, you never saw the work that went into the builds.

The tiny F40 in the honourable mentions seems more like a bit of fun than a serious attempt and in my opinion looks awesome (in a "that brought a little joy to an otherwise run-of-the-mill day" way).

The only car on this list that managed to get it right was the 1st one and the R8 replica. It actually managed to make the TT more appealing in some ways

Between 1990-1991 Honda blatantly ripped off Ferrari with the Prelude. There was a Testarossa kit. It looked convincing parked. When the engine started so did your doubts. the c3 wasn't that bad looking imo. I mean I wouldn't want it but it doesn't look bad (exept for the paint) and the audi TT is fine aswell. The TT and R8 have simular bodystyles in the first place and all the guy did was put a grey stripe on his car.

That last one looks somewhat like a TVR. A couple of them weren't too bad if you ignore the fact they are trying to replicate another car and have practically nothing in the way of performance. If they had just created them as their own custom design they'd be kinda cool.

I get that these replicas are usually pretty bad. But I envy anyone who can DIY these cars and then drive them for fun and self expression. What I don't like is when they make them and expect people to think they're worth their weight in gold.

Glad to see the Fiero to Ferrari replicas in this video. I have seen one of these in person and it actually looked far better than the example you pulled up. However, I found out the owner was rich and had put enough money into the replica that he could have easily bought the genuine Ferrari. Also, the mechanic who worked on it told me Fieros are a mechanical mess (also really unsafe and likely to rust to pieces). I watched the vehicle burn through a brand new clutch as it got back on the road for the first time.
