Thank Yous for calling attention to the microtones and to the modulations...and to the center of the makam. In other words, you are giving a complete review of Rast with its peculiarities and points of linkage or integration in a taksim or in a piece.

Murat. Just started learning Oud and I think you're lessons are the easiest free lessons I have found. I might eventually be interested in Skype lessons. I tune my Oud to what I think is a more common Arabic tuning DGADGC. So it takes a little more work but luckily I have a pretty good ear and I can follow along.

BEADGC is the standard Arab tuning. It's the same intervals as Turkish but everything is down a whole step. EABEAD, I think it's Armenian, I've come across it a couple times but never really used it. I think it's an older style. C#F#BEAD is pretty much exactly what I'm using except for the lowest string, which is common to retune depending on the tonic you're using anyway. I prefer having the lowest note be D so that it's the same as the high string that way...

Do you have more lessons on other maqamat a well? I am especially interested in modulations that fit to a particular maqam and are typically used in taqsims.

Standard Arabic tuning is CFAdgc', DGAdgc' or CGAdgc'. BE is very uncommon for the low strings. EABead' is Armenian or old-style Turkish.

Hey Murat, isn't that slightly flattened ascending C actually a slightly flattened C#? That's what I think I'm hearing, playing it like that aswel at the moment.
