i didn't even notice the plot armor thing and now that you have pointed it out i cant help but find that funny. for me the show seems more like a dark comedy. which might have been another thing they were going for. the comedy works with the characters and N is just so silly and awkward. and i recognize his voice but i cant remember from where...

I don't entirely think it's just liam vickers but also the other creators of the show, the people who made glitch studios, if you don't know which it seems you don't, they started out as Super Mario Glitchy 4 on KZfaq and murder drones is quite literally their biggest project yet and they're used to not being taken the most seriously so I would find it believable that they also lack some confidence in being able to pull something so serious off, especially given what they're primarily known for

Its just kind of too edgy, the jokes are fine but it doesnt go with the animations and style Its like trying to make star wars rebel a comedy show Hazbin Hotel for example everyone hyped for the release of the show but turned out to be cringe so people who arent 11-13 yrs old girls are kind of disappointed but it turned out to be actually good as the show goes on they did improved alots of things and it can actually be a meme plot

As someone who doesn't prefer horror scenes, but loves story, I actually really like how the show doesn't really take itself seriously. It allows breather moments for me, which allow me to enjoy the show as a whole much better!

I actually like those types of jokes the plot armor joke i didn’t notice until I watched it again those types of jokes aren’t very noticeable on the first watch and the joke when the bot was trying to say his name I think those I fine as well the only gripe I have with the show is how some of the jokes are misplaced or unnecessary like when uzi flips the gun around when fighting J it kinda seemed out of place and took me out of the experience but other than that it was pretty good.

I seemingly didn’t have this problem at all. I was _very_ immersed in it and wasn’t thrown back by the fourth wall breaking jokes at all, and laughed at them wholeheartedly, and was still able to go “Holy shit they died!” In shock, aw, and lots of terror, with a nice spoonful of Holy Fuck. And I am definitely invested jn these characters, even the side ones who died with maybe a minute of screen time! I kinda got the best from both worlds with this. Yeah, from a critical stand point, this is a bit of a problem, but as a viewer, I found it really good! And most of these jokes aren’t in your face, making the joke work much better in my opinion. But, if I’ve learned anything from Helluva Boss, don’t judge a series by it’s pilot (_VERY_ ironically) because the next 6 episodes that took up the span of nearly 2 years will make you go “Oh fuck, this is _good.”_ And while these shows are _nothing_ alike, they give off similar energy weirdly, like Undertale to Omori, literally nothing in common, but the energy is there. And both of those games had certainly slapped, and I’m expecting these indie shows to slap too! _holy fuck did I make this long..._ Edit: And I feel like they use the “Human like robots” to their advantage _super_ well. You can have them be goofy and exaggerated, and maybe even one note and works well since they’re humanly programmed robots! And with the job done by the writing team so far, I sense great potential! I literally feel like Palpatine when he said “We will watch your career with great interest”!

To me, the "Self aware" jokes never really felt like jokes, and more like little quips from Cinemasins. They do their best to bring attention to the fact that they're utilizing an overused trope or cliche, but never actually do anything funny with said awareness.

I don't mind these jokes, and I kind of like them for the most part. Similarly to another comment in this comment section, I'm familiar with GLITCH's work and kept up with its advertising (they released that "plot armor detected" scene as a sneak peak), so I was expecting some humor like this and I don't think it ruined anything. It's also hard to make something so serious without anything looking cliché nowadays. Also, this is a KZfaq web series, so this stuff like this should be more expected when compared to other real TV shows, except for the ones you know are going to have humor like this beforehand such as Rick and Morty, The Amazing World of Gumball, or The Animaniacs (heck, even My hero Academia made a huge 4th wall break joke in season 4, even though it was just one time). This humor probably just isn't for everyone. Didn't bother me much or at all and I was still immersed the whole time.

I haven’t seen it yet but my friend and I always talked about how shows can fall apart or seem to be less interesting when there is clear plot armor on a character. I’m surprised the studio chose to add that. Unless it’s some kind of inside joke and there’s a legit reason why she didn’t die from the blast, it’s just lazy writing, doesn’t matter how fucking cool the animations look.

I'm glad the later episodes are (mostly) dropping the 4th-wall breaking thing, because, yeah I would say it really makes it harder to get invested in the world. Which is a shame because there is SO much potential in this world to get invested in. A distant half-destroyed planet far out in space cloaked in perpetual night and perpetual winter, roamed openly only by remorseless killing machines that have been stacking a literal mountain's worth of corpses from the Worker Drones they've killed? And now one of them seems to have turned good by freak accident, able to protect the Worker Drone colony or its inhabitants but liable to dramatically snap back to a death monster at any given moment? Needless to say my lack of experience with Liam Vickers/Glitch productions storytelling and the Murder Drones trailer set my expectations quite a bit too high :_ )

HO, I was waiting for this kind of review! Absolutely SCATHING! I mean, the show was definitely good enough to watch even just for the animation, but I'm glad I could you to reflect my same criticisms off of. Personally, my problem was that my lack of experience with Glitch Productions and Liam Vickers led me to believe they would take this more seriously than their other shows. I had thought that this was going to be like a dark-comedy/survival-horror adult-animation show with a very clean PG rating, but it's essentially a Liam Vickers video in 3D which makes it more like a PG-13 Cartoon Network show (as some other commenters have mentioned). I have nothing against its content cleanliness (I'm all for it,) but I do have issues with the fact that it said it would be scary/horror and wasn't.

honestly 100% agree, especially in specific cases. While I do think the ep was written well overall, it almost came across at some points like it was self-depricating. the examples like the ones in this video remind me of someone going "hey guys, look at me playing fortnite, aren't i cringey", its like you really dont need to do that, espcially for a dumb joke, just have some confidence in what you're doing. While i don't think the pilot would have been better had played itself completely serious, the humour was important in balancing things out and all, but when a character says something that no-one in any setting would ever say like "hope you're having important character growth" for a nudge-nudge-wink-wink joke breaks the immersion for me. hopefully these aspects get refined should the show continue, but other then that, ye it was pretty pretty good.
@matthewmatthew981
@matthewmatthew981 2 жыл бұрын
Instead if being a dark-comedy/survival-horror show, it was a comedy-action show with some horror-esque character designs. That's my biggest and only problem with the show. Survival-horror protagonists don't win or talk about winning, they only try to survive. If I had been more familiar with Liam Vickers' and Glitch Productions' works, I probably would have known not to take it that seriously.
@VeraVemaVena
@VeraVemaVena 2 жыл бұрын
The show isn't really "survival-horror" just yet, they probably just wanted to have the first episode be comedic and go more into the horror aspect later on, which I'm guessing is gonna be the next episode since we've got 3 more Murder Drone squads incoming.

Looks like we're not the target audience given the, "no but I love the meta jokes!" comments you're getting. I watched your vid up to the point you warned about spoilers, watched the pilot of the show, then came back for your conclusion. I agree with your point about the overdoing meta killing immersion. It's feels more like reading a tvtropes article than watching an actual show. Contrast with Galaxy Quest where the character panicking about not having a last name means he's disposable makes sense for the story. But the real buzzkill for me was the main protagonists being mostly unlikable. Friends I watched with are of the same mind. Which is sad, 'cause I feel like N deserves better than, "it's funny that he feels guilty about interrupting a card game, but not beheading people."

Yeah the meta jokes are not that great when they're that constant. If they don't feel natural then its lame and it just breaks your suspension of disbelief. Homestuck^2 did this to me a little bit, though to be fair the 4th wall just not existing is specifically a large part of the narrative there. Still put me off too much to read it.
