Super great machine ! I own a Nov. '69 built 1970 Chevelle SS 396 4spd. It is Forest Green, not Dark Green Metallic,w/white stripes. Mine has black bench seat interior although l wouldn't scoff at the saddle color.Thanks for a glimpse at this special vehicle.

I love this car, I wouldn't change a thing. Got to go for a ride in a 396, same color back in 70's, I saw that flapper open and I was hooked, also the 396(402) was no slouch.

My favorite of all 70 chevelle SS is the L 78 and the rock crusher..I like the gray , maroon, any color but white

I was 13 in 1970. My first car came in 1974. It was a Roadrunner with a 383 Magnum engine. I wouldn't run against the 454s. Any of them. Fast forward to 2002 and I built a Boss Hoss with a Chevy 502 Crate engine. Talk about power. That motorbike shook all the windows in my Plano, Texas neighborhood. I still own a 1990 SS454 truck out of 3 I purchased. However, the 1990 454 was only rated at 230hp with a 3 speed THM 375 transmission (longer tailshaft made it a 375). I later went to a 4L80E transmission with a Compushift electronic shifter. I would like to install a Chevy 572 in my truck but the engines are $13K and I'm retired with other projects to deal with. I have fun with Chevys.

Friend of mine had a ragtop with the 396. Just awesome.

My only concern would be the very ealy cars had a high rise with no spacer. I actually put a 425 hp high rise on my personal LS6 car, removed the spacer, and it fit perfectly. Also, super street cars magazine did a dyno test of an LS6 Chevelle and it had the high rise intake with pictures, who knows.

This is a great looking car NOW...my choice would be a 1970 Buick GSX; muscle with class & comfort. 500+ ft/lbs of toque. Yeah, not as much horsepower, but it wasn't your dads Buick either.

Early production for sure, the later productions didn't have that little chrome strip under the headlights.

My 1970 Monte Carlo was the same colour. Now my car was a 300 BHP car which my Dad purchased new with me in the back seat on the test drive. It was my Dads Uncles car lot so those things were aloud. Who really cares if it was first or the 50th? It's a LS-6 454 car!!!! Awesome!!! I had a very nice 396 1969 Chevelle and a 1971 Chevelle 6 cyl car which was my grandparents neighbours car which I purchased for $500.00 and drove it straight to the garage to be safetied. It only cost me $35.00 for the safety because the old fellow who purchased it new took immaculate care of it. You do not find those deals anymore!! I had a 350 4 bolt main steel crank engine laying around so I dropped that into it which made it a great Saturday night cruiser!! What I wouldn't give to have that now! I did purchase an LS-7 454 crate engine back in the 90's which was a brute!! That thing had a very hard time on pump gas even 94 octane. It's 30 years ago now so I'm a little rusty on my remembering the little details. I believe it had 12-1 compression and a big ass solid lifter cam and big heads. I think I paid about 7 G's for it? A different century and a long time ago. But compared to today's technology they are heavy lame dogs. But in the day they rocked!! Remember Hemi cars were running 14's or maybe even 13.5 second quarter miles. That was quick. I just wish he would hammer it for a bit. They have the best cars around but their demos are extremely boring and lame!! Jay Leno has the best show and great cars plus Jay is not afraid to hammer the shit out of them especially his own.

My second car-mine had a white vinyl top-even same color interior. Mine was a 396.

There is definitely SOMETHING up with this car. For starters the front bumperetts are not normal. I owned two 70's and my brother a third and they didn't have these nor have any of the other 70's Ive seen in my life unless it was an option that was rarely if ever ordered. But secondly, I had a fathom blue 396 with the saddle interior and it was not the same shade as this one and my dash top matched my door panels it was a shade darker like this one is so given the paperwork and the oddities that I can see just in the video if this ISN'T the very 1st one its probably one OF the first ones no doubt and VERY beautiful as they ALL are. GM Should've just closed the doors after the last one of these left the building because they've been building crap ever since.

Incorrect - there were @4475 SS/454 cars produced. @2015 were LS5 and the remaining were LS6’s. So slightly more LS6 cars than LS5’s

This car was built at the Baltimore plant. Baltimore is a major shidt hole now because of stupid laws like NAFTA what down a lot of Baltimore factories that left complete hoods jobless.
