The exhaust is also Nassau Blue. But it's my favorite body style.

My grandmother owns a racing red 1966 model, but it doesn't have the original engine, it has a 383 stroker under the hood, but still has the side dump exhaust and rims seen on the car in the video. Also has an all-red interior too. I was told it was tuned to over 400 horsepower and I did get to drive it once in a parking lot with my father, the whole car vibrates at idle. It was heart racing experience even at slow speeds.

That's a beautiful vette, but she's smokin out of the right bank. One of the drawbacks of restoring a car and trying to use every single original part, you can make it look pretty but it's still got some wear on the inside.

I bought this exact model and color but with the 450/427 engine. I bought it used 1 year old from a hair salon owner who found the Vette to 'confining' for him. I really miss it.

64,65 & 66 are under priced and overlooked sometimes I think, unless it's a rare optioned one. The 65' 396 vette is an underated one.

I think you mean the 1965 396 Vette. I agree. I really like the “power bulge” hood design on the ‘65 396 and ‘66 427 Vettes.

probably would have been a good idea to put a new set of rings in that 427 before they dropped it back into that Corvette.

That looks like it could be the one a friend of mine pulled out of a barn in the early 90's. It was his uncle's who had died in Vietnam. It had the hard top and the fluids had been drained, all we did was fill up the fluids and it was ready to run. Gorgeous car, but he traded it for a semi to make a living for his family.

Nassau Blue is named after the speed weeks in Nassau Bahamas not the waters, just about all Corvette paint color names back in the day were named after races or racetracks.

336 rear end was not available with a close ratio. Too slow off the line. close ratio was only available 4.11 and 4.56 am I wrong?
@cloudshe
@cloudshe 5 жыл бұрын
had the close ration in a '65 L76 w/ the solid lifter cam and not so great torque below 3000 rpm, from a stop first gear felt like starting out in second gear. when i went to a roller cam engine i swapped in a wide ratio M20 and 308 rear, makes a wonderful street car now
@thud9797
@thud9797 Жыл бұрын
Yes you're wrong, 3.36 was available and was the ratio that Car and Driver had when they blasted to a 12.8 @112 mph 1/4 mile run so don't talk about it won't work. But you could also get 3.55, 3.70 and 4.11. Not sure about the 4.56 in 66, wasn't a normal option but maybe if you knew somebody. 4.56 really started in 67 with the L88 and continued through 1972 on the ZR1.

They had a lot of style and "feel" but the top of the line 2021 model can just about touch 200 mph. Maybe that convertible could use wider tires at the back, are burning up with all the torque that 427 cranks out .A better grip will improve acceleration

@shimshonbendan8730 2 жыл бұрын
Umm, you know that the fenders do not allow anything wider than a 7 inch wheel and 215/70/15 tires. And why are you comparing a C8 to an L-72 '66 Corvette?
@bobcohoon9615
@bobcohoon9615 2 жыл бұрын
@@shimshonbendan8730 I was just trying to say ,that for performance, Chevrolet is making a pretty good Corvette at the moment ,in case people weren't aware of that . The old 60's models are still in a class of their own for style and "feel"

Perfect gear actually, plenty power to get off the line and 70 mph is only 3000 rpm so you can cruise the highway and still run 140 mph on top or til you get scared.

No A/C??? It was only $400+. By far the most expensive option for the year. ($3,270 in today's dollars). I guess that was a bit much back then ....
@edgillis4686
@edgillis4686 2 жыл бұрын
A/C was not available with the 425hp 427 engine. A/C was available with the 390hp 427 engine. Keeping a “hot” big block motor cool was a challenge - I recall pulling over and shutting down to “cool off” motors when stuck in beach traffic back in the day when summer temps got into the 90s.
@thud9797
@thud9797 Жыл бұрын
Although they offered A/C with a few different small block solid lifter (6500 rpm) engines, Chevy nevered offered a solid lifter big block with A/C, the main issue was keeping the accessory belts on the engine at the higher rpms, something we take for granted today with the simpler serpentine belt, just didn't have that back then. Many did not order power steering also for this reason.
