I love Knights of cydonia, but I don't think it would be a good one for them.. it's a long instrumental, followed by a 3 or 4 line verse and a repeated chorus. Is it an amazing song.. yes, but not much for Vin and Sori to break down and discuss.

I believe Muse wrote this song around the time of some G20 summits. Matt Bellamy said of it: “The lead single, ‘Uprising’, was kind of inspired by the G20 protests which took place last year. I was in London at the time and I saw it all going on outside where I live.” He added: “I sort of found that whole protest quite inspiring really; just the idea that people just having a good time, putting together a peaceful protest but the police still do their best to make it become violent and I find that quite aggravating. So, that’s what the song’s about.” The Muse front-man went on to explain further: “There was a whole economic crisis and the MP scandal which took place last year where everyone felt like they were being ripped off by the powers that be.” “I sort of wanted to write a song that summed up that feeling like you’ve been done over by people you’re supposed to trust. That’s kind of where the song’s coming from really.”

Muse is kind of a modern arena rock act. But like RHCP they are both mega popular in the mainstream and hugely talented guys. Especially the lead singer/lead guitarist Matt Bellamy. Not their best song by a large margin. Stockholm Syndrome and Knights of Cydonia are far better songs. But this is one of their most popular hit songs. Knights of Cydonia was pretty big though, and rocks alot harder than this one does. Definitely a mainstream worthy band fo sho. And interestingly alot of people draw parallels between Muse and Queen. I definitely see it on the choruses here but especially on the acappela breakdown in Knights of Cydonia.

Ok, I just geeked out that you did Muse. I love metal so much, but Muse is definitely one of my favorite bands ever. Their composition is experimental, daring, and genius. I'm also a bass player, so I might be biased. There's no way I could pick just one for you to listen to. So many different styles employed. Hysteria, Starlight, Madness, Unintended, Resistance, Knights of Cydonia, Aftermath, Revolt, Drones, Assassin, Bliss, New Born, and so many more that I'm leaving out just to keep this from being a novel. This band has kept me from being bored for over a decade, and seeing them live was nothing less than watching perfection. Live Muse suggestions: Knights of Cydonia (Live at Wembly), Madness (Live at Rome Olympic Stadium), Starlight (Live at Rome Olympic Stadium)

Man it's so sad that people are always requesting the most popular and basic songs from great bands. Muse have douzens of songs better than this one. Red Hot Chilli Peppers have douzens of songs better than Otherside. Everybody Hurts from REM? Please they have so many better songs but most people only know this one. For the record I blame the industry not people for putting out the worse and easily digestible songs that you hear so much you kinda have to like.

It is not Muse's best song, but it's one of the song that will make people like Muse. It's like how people get to know SOAD by listening to Chop Suey, and then move to Aerials or whatever the heck they want to listen to next from SOAD. There's literally too many music out there, and sometimes a band's best songs are not the easiest entry to their oeuvre. That's why people recommend this song - I think you should not look at this under such negative light.

According to Songfacts: Singer/guitarist Matt Bellamy described this to Mojo magazine August 2009, in a pre-release interview, as "like a heavy-rock take on Goldfrapp. It has football-style chanting, with all of us going 'Oi!' in time with the snare drum." He added laughing, "It's meant to be football hooligans chanting in protest at the banking situation." Bellamy told MTV News that this is one of the key tracks on The Resistance. He explained: "It's the first track on the album, it kind of sums up what some of the album's about. You know, just sick of all these bloody bankers, politicians... just turning everything to a load of bol---ks. Just spending money on s--- and blowing everything. So it's kind of like a song that says, 'Take the power back, but have a good time at the same time.' Have a good time all the time, that's what we believe."

I've been reading The Law by Frederic Bastiat the last few days. He makes a lot of strong points about how law makers view themselves as makers of society - like people are their play things essentially with no will of their own, they exist to be molded by their vision. It's been an interesting and thought provoking read.

A left field surprise. Love this band, and while they may have better, I love this song. It got me into Muse. Very unique band.

This was a very popular song on radio and tv, the music video is a bit unforgettable, but I think most people who know the song but not the band heard it off of one of the Guitar Hero games. On the spirit molecule: it is not that you leave your body, nor is it that it is all in your head. It is all around us and rather than our soul or astral self, it is your consciousness reconnecting with previously unknown realms of reality. We have a limited understanding of our world that is filtered through our five senses, but we know there to be larger spectrums of light and energy that we have no physical or mental capacity to perceive or interact with, using our limited bodies and minds. Due to the fact that we lost our ability to activate our pineal gland because we allowed the practice to die from one culture to the next throughout time. DMT is supposedly one of many possible keys to reactivating it which is why people come back with a better understanding of the infinite connections within the universe. Just for reference; The Crown Chakra is depicted as an infinite-leaf lotus, forever unfolding without yield. Once activated the kundalini serpent dives back down into our body, piercing the chakras and unifying our mind, body, and spirit, with physical reality and every facet of the universe, through conscious awareness.

It's about time you started getting into some Muse!! These guys are the real deal. Incredible band live - just a 3-piece. I liken them to a modern day Rush in their capacity for amazing sound reproduction on stage! They have influences of Queen & others. Lead singer Matt Bellamy has a penchant for conspiracy theories & political commentary, etc. I would highly suggest songs like Knights of Cydonia, Hysteria, Citizen Erased, Dead Inside, The Handler...& so many others...amazing group!!

Looking at the comments it seems that other people have already said much of what I was going to say. I will restrict myself to just two points: - 1) You haven't heard of Muse!!! (Jaw hits floor!) 2) I saw them live a few days ago. They are now right at the top of their game. It was probably the best big concert I've seen since Pink Floyd in 1994. You guys really need to react to a live performance of any of the songs mentioned in the comments.
