Welcome to a video which presents a most unusual museum quality work of decorative art, or French period “antique” from the early 19th century. This episode also bolsters previous discussions of this misunderstood final decade of the traditional decorative arts (the 1830s/fine furniture of the early Louis-Philippe period).
I hope you will find these videos entertaining and informative and that they will enhance your understanding of and discernment with regard to Furniture from the past. This piece is a fine Parisian work of veneer art, as opposed to solid wood pieces from regional cities often loosely called “provincial.” Don’t hesitate to consult this channel’s other videos about these different varieties and periods of fine French antiques.
Many thanks to all viewers, customers, and subscribers,
Cole

As a long time viewer, you are a man after my own heart. I managed a French Antique shop for 5 years in LA, and years before a Brocante in Holland. Your pieces are exceptional, and you breath them. Thank You!

Very unique in design and quality. It would be interesting to know for whom it was commission and if there were additional pieces order as well. By the way my Jacob chairs are being sold by Christies N.Y. online Oct. 7. The Collector sale. Always look forward to your vlog.

Needless to say, these videos are amazing to watch. I thought I was buying antique furniture until I watched these videos and I am afraid I don't have the pocketbook for furniture of this quality and age. So if I understand you correctly, I am probably buying vintage pieces, but not antiques. I hope I understand that correctly. I truly love the videos.

Thanks for watching ! And all sorts of pieces from the more recent past are attractive and interesting. My main point for let’s say new collectors or even just shoppers is that early pre industrial art pieces are objectively high value - many pieces that sort of imitate these beautiful originals are presented to unsuspecting buyers as venerable works of art - so I don’t mean to denigrate anything, just point out the need for discernement when buying! Flattered you enjoy the videos.
