Dis-ease Credits: Produced by Brasstracks Songwriters: j-hope, Ivan Jackson Rosenberg(from Brasstracks), GHSTLOOP, RM, Pdogg, SUGA, Jimin, Randy Runyon J-hope - >Dis-ease was multiple times described by the members and the album’s press release that it is J-Hope’s own song. He is officially acknowledged as the main composer/lyricist of the song (also participated as recording engineer and arrangement). In fact, as described by several music critics/reviewers, the song has ‘j-hope written all over it’ and it is very evident. It is his vision of what he wanted in the song. Not only according to the members he made the majority of the song, but he also came up with the title. In addition, members who co-participated in making Dis-ease are RM & Suga with their verses and Jimin on the bridge. Some quotes of j-hope explaining the song J-hope (Nov 24 2020, Weverse Magazine -> Where did you get the idea for the theme of “Dis-ease”? j-hope: First, I wanted to get into the mindset that this song is a sickness. When I make a song, I work on the chorus first, and then move onto the first verse. When I had only finished the chorus the song felt upbeat, but I thought the overall theme shouldn’t be too playful. That wouldn’t reflect how I felt. But while the theme of “Dis-ease” itself isn’t very light, when it fuses with the beat, it feels as if the song is trying to get over itself and stay positive. So I threw some scratching into the chorus and put in some “bbyap bbyap bbayp” and then started to think, “Aha! I’d better call this song ‘Dis-ease.’ ” Interviewer: I didn’t expect you to write a song portraying your love-hate relationship with your work as a disease. A lot of people would expect you to have a positive, hopeful attitude, given your name. j-hope: I was too busy to ever give much thought about the work itself. But, as you know, that suddenly changed, and there was a lot we could no longer do. When I was working, I’d say, “Ugh, I need a break,” but then we took time off and the words, “Ugh, I want to work,” jumped out of my mouth! That’s what made me think more closely: “Why is this bothering me? I have a chance to rest-just take it. Why do I feel like I need to work under these circumstances? Is this an occupational disease?” I felt like this was a part of me that I could express at this point in time.

At first it supposed to be his own song, then he changed it so the members could sing and participated in this song. 'Dis-ease' is such a masterpiece by j-hope. I came here to tell you that the entire brazilian army felt instantly connected with dis-ease. On a spiritual and, perhaps, genetic level. I'm not kidding! She has our "gingado", the little princess with a brazilian soul. I'm 35yo and this song always takes me back in time, to the early 2000s and all the musical atmosphere that I felt when I went out with my friends at that time. Idk if at least there was the slightest intention that it would sound and be felt so much by b-armys (I don't think so ... in fact I can't say, since I never saw the boys talking about knowing Brazilian music or not - maybe have heard something in passing from the time they were in São Paulo ... idk). Hobi makes it increasingly difficult for b-armys not to feel him like a Brazilian at heart.

"Dis-ease" is literally one of my most favorite BTS songs, it never fails to inject that serotonin straight into my brain and I'm really happy you reacted to it! I just love how triumphant the final chorus sounds, it's awesome! (And of course we can't forget Jin's legendary high note in the background, hoo-whee!) And yes, I absolutely do belt the chorus whenever the song comes up in my playlist XD

My favorite track on the whole album and it has Hobi written all over it - Hobi´s lightness, his abstract playfulness, his creativity, his shine:-) Plus rappers killed it for me on this track too - never boring, never repetitive, never stagnant - pure fire. The bridge was lovely and time mark 9:50 with that Maroon-ish 5 aggressive onslaught brought on by JK and Tae was an absolute highlight for me. Gorgeous but punchy.

By the way, J-hope is the main writer & main composer of the song. He came up with the title, the concept behind the song, the lyrics & the composition. As always other members had their hands on the track too but it’s his song the same way Dionysus & Mic Drop are his songs!

I agree Jimin has shown a lot of vocal growth and experimentation on this album. It makes me really excited for his future songs! The producer for this track is Brasstracks! Jhope wrote and composed the rest of the song and Jimin wrote and composed the epic bridge in like 3 minutes ☺
