Music Professor DOESN'T React to Kendrick Lamar "United in Grief"!
Two-time Grammy winner in 2018 Pulitzer Prize winner Kendrick Lamar is probably one of the most loved and admired rappers of all time! Seen many "reacts videos" and I wanted to actually show what everybody had missed in their analysis. If you want to be able to hear this song better, it's going to take quite a bit of time and living with this one particular track. Listen to it over and over. Aside from Kendrick Lamar, Sam Dew, Johnny and Jake Cosich, L.Lbs, Tim Maxey, Duval Timothy, Matt Schaeffer, Beach Noise, Sounwave, OKLAMA, the last of those being Kendrick’s new nickname. You're done with this video you will discover what you've been missing. I invite you to learn to really hear this song
This recording is being used under the Fair Use act.

I will continue venturing off into different genres. Of course I am one guy trying to do all of this and it is… I don't even know how to tell you… This took over 40 hours to do! Not to mention, Kendrick Lamar's record label doesn't believe in "Fair Use." This is clearly an educational video and I am not making a cent off of it. Nobody's joining my Patreon, and I'm not selling anything whatsoever. What it SHOULD BE called is "Un- Fair Use." @@streetwiseguitar5113 Subbed. Also, an interesting aspect to consider upon further listening, is how the album mirrors Kendrick's discography as a whole. It has been noted by many how specific songs are musically reminiscent of either Damn, TPAB, GKMC or any of the other albums of his oeuvre. This is obviously inevitable to an extent, but I do believe it is done on purpose on this album. I think it ties to the theme of mirrors, and how this really is a mirror of Kendrick and the culture he grew up around. Many other interesting mirroring devices are set up throughout the album, but I won't get into them now 😁

@@streetwiseguitar5113 I'm not a fan of misinformation being spread. Implying someone co wrote a song when Kendrick is a rapper and a writer. In music anything can get you a credit. None of his collaborators have suggested they've written *for* Kendrick. It diminishes him as an artist to state that his words are not his own especially when there's 0 evidence of this and in fact Kendrick is the one writing for his guest singers and rappers 80% of the time.

Professor, thank you for this exhaustive break down. This song has been living in my head the past few days - especially the part where the (woodwinds or cello?) come in at 11:08. What is this instrument and is there a phrase to describe this short motif reappearing with voices around 11:43? That try to feel where '1' is diagram was genius. I tried counting in my head and flip between the first part and the second half. Anyway, thank you for making complex music concepts accessible to everyone!

There was so much to talk about musically that I knew if I got into a lyric breakdown the video easily would’ve been a half an hour long. Since many videos had already talked about that I simply decided to talk about the one thing that was universal. It was the simplest thing and it’s simply the title of the song! You know I saw Rick Rubin one time here in Miami. I need to see the interview. I know Rick Rubin couldn’t play his way out of a paper bag! Lol can you believe that?
