Many people have to imagine this. My nephew lost his little girl at delivery. Abrupted placenta. We held her and told her good bye. I visit her every memoria day. This song is a tribute to all the little souls and those they leave behind. This song from James Blunt makes me cry but I love and appreciate it. Tributes are like that 😢❤

I admire James Blunt so much. I really love when artists r vulnerable enough to share their hurts and joys. It is so healing for someone like me who cant express things. Its beautiful. I love his music. A very generous soul.

James often writes about events in his life and this one is about his wife's miscarriage. A lot of his songs are emotional. He wrote one about his time in Kosovo as a tank commander, it's called No Bravery, and that too is emotional. He's a great writer.

James Blunt is a master songwriter. He has the ability to vocalize all the feelings in song what is sometimes too hard to say. Sad, beautiful song…very emotional.

this song hits myself and my wife because we could never have kid ,she blamed herself but I told her she was not to blame herself because when I went to the doctor's I found out I can't have any kids ,so I told her I was to blame.

This is about his wife and him lost a baby but they have gone on and have 2 kids now but he writes about his life in lot of his songs.

Visually throughout the stanzas, James and the actress playing the role of the wife pack away unused items and wardrobe for the baby, and the chorus is visually warmer with a shot of a smiling blonde girl running freely through fields of wheat bathed in the sun. Also, great contrast that is meant to enhance the message of the text. All in all, The Girl That Never Was is one of the best musical achievements of this century, a song that breaks even the hardest hearts into pieces and puts them back together with the hope that everything will be overpassed with hope and love!! It's my humble opinion

In fairness, 'Monsters' could equally apply to a father with Alzheimers; it's often said that, with dementia, you 'lose' the person twice - once when they forget everything and everyone, and then again when they physically die. That's the beauty of well-written songs - they can have very different, very personal meanings to everyone. James Blunt has the ability to tear your heart into pieces with his songs - another of his I can recommend is 'Carry You Home' - based on his real experiences in combat in the army.

Just so you know, the "girl" was never born, unfortunately the mother suffered a miscarriage. That is what Blunt is singing about.

I love the old guy (apologies if I'm being offensive). He reminds me of my Grandad. I loved my Grandad and he understood things much better than me.

Of course you shouldn't research before you watch a reaction. That kind of defeat the purpose in my opinion.
