I think you understand now why so many of us think Angelina is the best singer we’ve ever heard. Not only is she 9 here, but this is her own arrangement. Angelina knows exactly what her voice can do, and we get the rasp, the sass, the power, and the attitude this song deserves. She is a student of singers and music, even at this age, and she is able to pay tribute to the original version by Screamin Jay Hawkins while simultaneously making this completely her own. It’s a talent you’ll see over and over again, and it’s beautiful. Angelina is known as the girl with a thousand voices. After two songs, you know why. I’m going to disagree with you somewhat in your comment about Bohemian Rhapsody. It’s not that Angelina flexed her vocal abilities less on that Queen cover-she gave that stunning performance exactly what her arrangement called for. Her vocal toolkit is absolutely incredible, but she doesn’t flaunt it. Angelina inhabits genres, as you saw today-and her voice now at 17 is mesmerizing. Watch her do 1960’s soul (James Brown’s “It’s a Man’s World” or Etta James’s I’d Rather Go Blind) and you’ll hear how perfectly she chooses a voice and style. Or watch her vocal dynamics and limitless vocal textures in her cover of Adele’s Easy on Me. You’ve only opened the door just a crack, and there are dozens and dozens more songs that will show you she’s incomparable.

With her sassy inflections, there is no doubt 9 year old Angelina understands the emotions of this 1956 classic Screamin Jay Hawkins song. At the start of the video we see Angelina writing her 'wishes' for how she wants to sing the song. Angelina has always created her own arrangements for each song she sings. She has set the new standard for what is possible by a young vocalist. PLEASE purchase Angelina's new song, "Love Don't Let Me Go" which premiered today.

My thoughts on this performance. I love this performance so much. As they say AJ don't play. We get the most stunning, amazing performance of a 9 yr old of this Jazz standard ever created. I believe it is going to go down in Jazz & Music history as the best ever for this age and in my opinion the best rendition of this song ever created Screamin Jay included. It will be revisited for Decades and will remain relevant for Generations to come. Anyone who discovers this performance for the first time today or a 100 years from today are going to be as amazed and astounded as everybody has been to this point. Think of the children who will be inspired by this one performance in the decades to come. This is an Iconic performance and will always be Iconic. Angelina has on her own from early on at 6 or 7 yrs old reintroduced what I believe will be a whole new Jazz Era and redefined by this young phenom and prodigy. That is astounding! And she is just 17 years old... That is unfathomable. She has already established her proficiency and incredible work ethic in this endeavor guided by an incredible family and professional support now surrounding her. You just watched a Masterpiece! Destined to go down in Music History as the best performance by a 9 yr old, Period! Past, present & dare I say Future! I'd like to see anyone, young or old who can do a cover of this & with the justice it deserves as Angelina has done on every cover she does. ♥👣👸🏻

One year after winning Norway's Got Talent, this 9 year old throws down the gauntlet to the music industry with this proclamation, a bold statement that she has arrived on the scene and she has everything that it takes; talent, attitude, skill and knowledge. She leads this highly skilled team of professional musicians to perform her arrangement of this great classic jazz/blues piece that helped lead the way to the creation of the rock music genre with what has been called an early example (1956) of shock rock. Few are alive to remember what music like in 1956 was like but Elvis started not long before this time.

Welcome to the world of our “barefoot princess, with 1000 voices”… This beautiful child, prodigy, and humanitarian is a gift to the world!🎉 I read a story that an elderly gentleman, was extremely depressed and thinking about the unthinkable… Somehow he heard about Angelina a year or two ago… And her music literally “saved his life“ as a semi, retired RN, I’ve seen some pretty rough things in the ICU… And I’ve been holding hands of the dying that had no one… So what I love about our angel the most , is that she truly is, a humanitarian beyond her years, with a beautiful family! I will follow your channel just to enjoy your reactions as a professional yourself. God bless you and your family! Thank goodness for Alexa ha ha… You’ve only just begun, sir her playlist is incredible… Sorry about the voice texting again, and I’m sure some people have repeated what I said.❤ and even more info! 😇🌺💖🌈🦋🌷

Not enough buttons to indicate how much I liked this performance. I've listened to reactions to it hundreds of times. While this is a gem that stands out, Angelina's golden voice embellishes nearly 200 youtube videos, mainly covers, that show the excellence of her voice and the arrangements she develops for countless classics. Her catalog of music from 7 to 17 is unbelievable, destined to be immortalized as her stardom grows. Appreciation doesn't cover it, she is a blessing to the world!

Thank you for featuring Angelina a second time, I hope you will do many more reactions to her, as she is well worth every nanosecond you spend on her. I have watched and listened to her in awe since she released her first video on KZfaq, and what has been evident to me from the start is that she sings with total conviction, despite the fact that she is far too young to have experienced the events suggested in the lyrics of the song she has chosen to sing. But it is not only that, for strange as it may seem is the even more remarkable fact that she can convey the appropriate emotions within those lyrics to her listener. Angelina was 9 years and 2 months old when she performed this song. It is her tribute to Screamin' Jay Hawkins, who wrote and performed the song in 1956 (50 years before Angelina was born). She based her arrangement on his original performance, although she discarded all the theatrics and allowed her voice and body language to tell the story. The song has been covered by many singers over the years, but to my knowledge, Angelina is the only one who has sung in the same style as the original. There are many things I found particularly worthy of note in this video. Some I recognised immediately and those I missed were brought to my attention by the more observant Angelina fans (her Angels) and I thank them for letting me know what I had missed. Another Angelina "Angel" has pointed out something else which I had missed, and it is added at (l) below, (a) Angelina finishing writing last minute changes she wanted and handing them to the Music Director, who smiled. (b) A brief glimpse of Mery Zamani, Angelina's maternal grandmother, a well known and respected Iranian Artist and poet who was also a child prodigy. She was the person who recognised Angelina's talent at an early age and exposed her to all the old time jazz singers. (c) The candle with an image of Screamin' Jay Hawkins on it. (d) The smile on the face of the Bass player. (e) How she rose on to her toes on the last occasion she sang "...because you're mine" (f) The fact she occasionally refers to her written notes on the music stand. Possibly to remind herself of the last minute changes she wanted. (g) Her unwavering passion throughout the performance. Evidenced by her facial expressions and the way she uses her hands and body to emphasise the direction of the song. (h) The way she takes a breath just before she starts the last phrase (I don't care.....) and that breath lasts the whole of that sustained note. A child of that age should not have the ability to hold a note for that length of time. (i) At the end, when she sings I Doooont Caaaaare, she employs TWO separate and distinct vibratos to the word care, a wide one to start the word and a tighter one to close the word (j) The instant transformation from "performance" mode to that of a pensive child, possibly wondering whether she could have done better. I comment on the "pensive" child because Angelina has an incredible work ethic and seeks to perform every song in a way she considers will bring out all the emotions within the lyrics and melody. (k) Perhaps the most remarkable is that despite her tender years, she sings with such total conviction that her authenticity is never in doubt. It is easy to believe that she has experienced the events described in the lyrics. It is not only her voice that is mesmerising, it is also her facial expressions, and the way she uses her hands and body. Her stage presence is electrifying. (l) The performance absolutely is powerful and raw but to me, I am amazed that this is balanced by the profound beauty of the ending phrase; the last twelve words of the song. AND… they are essentially sung a cappella! Angelina has been referred to as the "Queen of Jazz", "The Barefoot Princess", "The girl with a thousand voices". All of them are true, but I prefer the nickname I gave her after listening to about six of her performances. For me, she is "The Chameleon of Song", for as a chameleon is able to change its colour to match its surroundings, so Angelina is able to change the "colour" of her voice to accurately match the needs of the song to reveal the emotions within the lyrics and melody. Even more remarkable is her innate ability to communicate those same emotions to her listeners.

Angelina brings out the vocals most appropriate to the song. I feel that she was introduced to the music of Screamin' Jay Hawkins by her grandma, she suggested portrait of a man, Angelina played around with that, but then discovered this song, something with more substance! Angelina took the passion, but left out the theatrical and concentrated on the musicality. She had a vision of how the music should flow, the hand written notes to the music director seen in the video. Angelina likes to refine a rendition as she goes along, in the video you see her holding a pen, to makes notes if required. The song has a passion about it, Angelina gave it her all here, later refining it further to give a live performance version that she performed at age 11, in Germany and South Korea, a little more smooth, with even more power!

Angelina 9 yo. Look at her! She controls the entire recording. She has the power and ability to carry this out. The fact that she then has an outstanding fantastic voice and theatrical body language only makes everything even better. The musicians are also amazingly good. They give everything to complete this masterpiece! This little Norwegian girl reads the English lyrics while singing! She is from Norway and they speak Norwegian there. English is Angelina's 3rd language! Already at 5-6 years old, she understands exactly what is meant in the English lyrics! Incredible! A genius at work. I am so happy for everything she gives me. / a Swedish Viking.

Sir, from the beginning, Angelina tried to work with the best musicians. It was not always possible, but very often. As Robert, my dear co-commenter said, she was 9 years old, and already famous througout Scandinavia, at age of 8, literally King and country declared her The Treasure of Norway. With other words, she now was a Scandinavian noble woman. Every musician in those parts, felt honored to work for and with her, giving their best. Those musicians here in this video, coined her nickname, that sticks even today, THE BOSS. NO she is not bossy, use the link Robert gave you. Today musicians around the world have a stupendous amount of respect and love for her. Now a lot of so called singers, shake in there shoes. No more hiding behind computers and software. Angelina has entered the Arena to show those losers how to realy sing. Stay safe. Elmar from Germany

Norwegian born Angelina Jordan began singing at the age of one and a half, and by age three was listening to jazz and classics legends on repeat. Her grandmother was her greatest influence, but Angelina chose her own path. Her first studio performance was at age 7, singing I Who Have Nothing. She won Norway's Got Talent at the age of only 8, singing old time classics from Billie Holliday and George Gershwin, and became the youngest ever vocalist to win an international Got Talent Show! Her performance at 9 years old of Screamin Jay Hawkins, I Put a Spell on You is considered one of the finest recordings ever of a 9-year-old vocalist! Angelina also went viral on America's Got Talent the champions in 2020 with her unique versions of Bohemian Rhapsody and Goodbye Yellow Brick Road. Angelina sings in English which unbelievably is her third language! She is a true prodigy. She is now 17, and has recorded a huge library of songs, including covers and several originals. A major attraction to Angelina's music is the emotion and attitude she conveys, although she has not experienced the life events! She is known as the barefoot princess of 1,000 voices as she can adjust her tone, style, and register for any song or genre. She was signed by Republic Records almost two years ago. She has not been widely promoted yet, as her family wanted to allow her a normal childhood. However, she graduates school this year, and her new album of originals should be released within the next few months, followed by a world tour, possibly this summer. Here is a link from ages 6 to 17 of over 100 Angelina chronological KZfaq performances with five originals. Here is a more comprehensive playlist of approximately 190 videos including tiktok and Instagram. Why does Angelina sing barefoot? The answer may bring a tear to your eye. It is related to a promise she made to herself and to the world when she was only 6 years old. She was traveling in the Middle East with her mom and grandmother and they came across a young orphan girl with no shoes and scarred feet. Angelina gave the girl her own favorite shoes. Angelina ask the girl what she wanted to be when she grew up and she said a doctor, but she could not because she had to take care of her siblings. She asked Angelina the same question and Angelina said I want to sing for the world. The young girl said she would pray for Angelina. Since then, Angelia has forever performed barefoot as a reminder of all those less fortunate. At age 9 she wrote a book about this experience, Between two Hearts, becoming the youngest ever published author in Norway. She also has helped raise millions for children's charities. She even donated her winnings from Norway's Got Talent to charities. She is a special individual, and one you cannot follow without developing an emotional bond. Angelina captures hearts because she is humble and has compassion for humanity. Her stated goal from childhood was to sing for the world and spread love and peace. I trust this will cause you to embrace her as millions of others have, and that you will continue down the rabbit hole from which you will not want to escape. Peace and love. Musicians call her the boss. At the beginning of this we see her handing over a paper with last minute changes she wanted to make to the music director. This is not a straight cover of the Screaming Jay Hawkins version. Angelina participated in how she wants to deliver a song since entering Norways Got Talent. Which ended the programmes concerns about her age since she auditioned at 7. Good job as she won. She was 8 by the final show so both ages are quoted for her win.. At 17 now she is over 6ft tall absolutely stunning and her voice has matured beyond understanding.

Thanks for another great reaction to & analysis - & appreciation of this epic performance by Angelina (which she also arranged) - at age 9. Even at this young age, the band members referred to her as "The Boss". I highly recommend that you go back even further to all 4 of her Norway Got Talent performances (Gloomy Sunday, I'm A Fool To Want You, Bang Bang & Summertime) - at ages 7-8. Make sure you select video clips with English subtitles (while Angelina sings in English, the narrator & judges are speaking Norwegian). And of course that means that English is not Angelina's 1st language. Following her NGT win, a couple of other great performances while she was still 8: What A Difference A Day Makes sung at an outdoor Norwegian summer music festival & her USA debut on The View singing Fly Me To The Moon. Thank you. And may GOD continue to watch over & bless Angelina Jordan.

Angelina was 9 years old in this performance - This song was not arranged for her - she wrote the arrangement based on listening to the original Screamin' Jay Hawkins version - in fact, at the beginning of the video you see Angelina writing down some last-minute changes and it is read by the bandleader. You also notice that her own handwritten notes are on the music stand in front of her as she sings. For more insight into how Angelina works, here is a rehearsal video with the same band at the same age (9 yrs old) - You will see that she is aware of what each musician is doing and communicates to them what she wants to do. There are English subtitles as the spoken language is Norwegian: kzfaq.info/get/bejne/iaebjadyvbClZHk.html

Please be aware that this particular rendition of this song was only done like this at this one moment. Angelina gave it her all here, but she could'nt continue doing that live, because this was quite straining to her voice. Later live versions wasnt as "violent" to her voice as this. Therefore, let's treasure this recording. Also because this voice is now gone and replaced with an equal unique voice within an equal unique young GORGEOUS lady.

As many times as I've listened to this song, I'm still blown away! I was 8 years old and remember hearing the original by Screamin' Jay Hawkins on a Detroit radio station. I thought it was kinda "weird" that a grown man could act crazy and scream into a microphone and call it "music." Then along came Clarence "Frogman" Henry. Those 2 men showed me that's there's no limits to what can be done to musical notes. Angelina Jordan carries on that concept, minus the rough edges.

Out of the billions of YT videos this is my favorite for watching reactors discover AJ. Kudos to this guy, the first out of so many I've seen who amply credits her sidemen and then helps us hear how the tenor sax is so in synch with her voice, an insight nobody else has ever offered.

Yep...see you weren't ready, You thought you were but you weren't; that's ok it happened to all of us. More so the ones who are educated in music and or audio, especially when you start so far into her repertoire; even with those of us who started from the beginning the jump from her first appearance on youtube to this is astounding; It kind of makes you wanna throw everything you know about vocals out the window and start all over, because by conventional thinking this shouldn't be able to happen... but it did. Welcome to the journey of being wrapped in a warm blanket by her voice. By the way, this will not be the last time you will be flabbergasted by her vocals.

Angelina Jorden arranges all her music. At the beginning of this vid you’ll see her passing a note to the music director. It’s asking him to make a change in the arrangement for her!! She is more than incredible!! She plays a few instruments, speaks many languages and is an all around amazing being to other humans!!! ❤❤❤

You'll stop being astounded by Angelina once you accept that she's a musical/vocal genius who can sing anything...well.

Love your reaction. No one can really express enough feelings to a talent such as Angelina. There is so much to Angelina than just her singing and you will learn as you move forward with her. The amazement is infinite and one can appreciate what they see and hear.

Whats more remarkable is that she arranged the whole song. that was her writing changes to the song which the music director was amused with. The band affectionately called her the BOSS lol

Awesome reaction and favorite thing Angelina does, is getting people to scratch their heads! Then the next breath, How? She is one to be amazed by every vocal performance, I believe Mastered at age 8. Listen to "Summer Time" and "What a Difference a Day Makes, both at 8 years old and her arrangements. Also she just dropped an Original today, "Love Don't Let Me Go", another jaw dropping performance by our Barefoot Princess, God Bless!

The expression on your face is priceless! I've watched reactions to this song a hundred times maybe more and most music professionals are mostly stunned or their jaws drop. Never heard this song before and decided to view Jay Hawkins and Nina Simone videos really not my cup of tea but AJ's performance is so captivating that I've grown to appreciate this song more!

I just subscribed for more of Angelina. Excellent reaction and musical breakdown. You nailed this. From 18 months old singing I Will Always Love You (WH version) to now you’ve never heard any singer with this kind of Aptitude for any musical type there is. Have fun exploring our Angelina Jordan world. Pick any song you like but please don’t skip her originals. She captures the exact way to tell a songs intended story and true meaning, then she makes the arraignment fit the message.

If you really want to hear what she can do, you will have to listen to many songs. She doesn't try to show off. Her arrangements are tasteful and appropriate. Therefore, if you listen to a lot of her work you will have a good idea if what she was capable of at that time. Each year she becomes more defined and refined and introduces the next level. There doesn't seem to be a limit to what she can accomplish. Fortunately, she has been very prolific over the years and you will have everything you need in order to experience the transitions, which really begin around age 6. Here she is 9 years and two months. In AGT-Champions (Bohemian Rhapsody) she was 13. She is now 17. You have a wonderful road to travel.
