Jonah's solo stuff just keeps growing and growing and growing on me! It's almost like it has all these secret hidden hooks that get into my brain and I just want more. I'm with you. Trapped on a desert island-or whatever, you know-this is the version of "Bad" I'm wanting with me. He really did take it next level an made it his own.

The vocals also reminded me of Manhattan Transfer! The first time I heard this I called my sister for her to listen to it too as she is a Manhattan Transfer fiend! Jeff, you really need to listen to Jonah’s Borrowed Time…have the tissues close by. I’ve already told my daughter I want this song at my funeral, as well as Jonah’s ‘Last Farewell’… I will go out in style 😇

You need to listen to Dirty Loops' older covers as well. They do have a tendency to twist the songs inside out, and turn them into something that is just way better than the originals (or, in some cases, make insanely good music out of less than stellar stuff). :D

Seven or eight years ago now, I was becoming so disappointed about the direction modern music was going. Then along comes Dirty Loops! Their obvious joy at what they do with their instruments is contagious. I agree with you 100% Jeff on your comments about Jonah's vocals, they are mind blowing. I hear Stevie Wonder coming through more as he matures. I'm a big of Stevie having seen him perform in a night club I frequented in Sydney, when he was just eighteen and his "For once in my life" phenomenal hit had just been released. Like Jonah, he's multitalented. On the night, he played the most amazing version of "Alfie" on the harmonica and even played the drums at one stage! Of course, he's also awesome on keys! ( love your reaction on this too mate).

I think it is time for you to lead us down the path of Jacob Collier. A 5 time Grammy winning 26 year old who is a musical genius... Please start with his arrangement of Lionel Richie's All Night Long. He plays all the instruments and did all the arrangements including the orchestra.. Take 6 is with him in this as well!!... Let's go!!!!

I missed the live stream, but it was still fun as always! Speaking of, I am enjoying your Last Rock Empire playlist! I put it on my phone. I'm not quite musical enough to legitimately discuss it with you, but I keep thinking "vast & varied soundscape!" & "episodic". I get Kansas vibes as I mentioned, but also Rush vibes. To use my tween's word... EPIC!

@@StrateleStudios Ok, you asked for it... Lol. Here goes, highlights: Broken: love the lyrics; the background harmonies; the driving guitar throughout & the solo before the last chorus; the broken yell Out Among Stars: like a lullaby (for Major Tom, floating out in space, befriended by a satellite, lol); it's soothing lyrically & musically; "so much for gravity" The Scorpion & The Frog: atmospheric synth; the switchups; the story reminds me of Brian Wilson's "Mt. Vernon & Fairway" fairy tale that was included as a bonus 45 with the Holland album, both are very cool! Nika: The Kansas tribute, yes! Otherworldly feel. This is the one that reminds me of "The Wall" for some reason. Quasar: Parts remind me of "Fly like an Eagle" Steve Miller Band. Haven't digested all the lyrics yet, but "numbers of Fibonacci" caught my ear. Shred vocals! Is that a Hammond organ sound in there? Ghost...: Super cool, could be a haunted house video game background track with all the different sections; love "soon as the sun comes out" sung in a round; "standing on the edge, not to jump but to fly" yeah! (Some days you don't know which one you're gonna choose.) Tipping Point: cool chords, reminds me of Joe Jackson's "Steppin' out" All that to say I think it's super cool & different (in a good way), but with familiar nods that make my ears perk up. I like the interesting, verbose lyrics that make you think a bit. And the way the sections switch up keeps you on your toes (or ears). And I like that the songs feel expansive, not chopped down for radio purposes... Episodic. Vast & varied soundscape!
