Alex is simply beyond ridiculous. Neil calls him "The Funniest Man Alive" in his writings and it's easy to see why he'd say that. His Rock and Roll Hall of Fame acceptance speech remains the funniest thing ever, hands down. Their nick names are Lerxt, Dirk, and Pratt.

Lerxst - Alex Dirk - Geddy Pratt - Neil I love this video, these guys had been playing together for many, many years and were still obviously extremely good friends. It’s just a glimpse behind the curtain and it was great hearing Neil laughing as he often comes across as very serious.

That's how they were able to stay together over 40 years as a band...because contrary to what people think about those three guys they just like to make each other laugh. They don't take themselves too seriously. And when they were asked to do this film, they themselves didn't think it would be interesting. But they are just great friends at heart...and fans of the band understand their silly humor.

This was at the end of the documentary film “Beyond the Lighted Stage.” The album they’re talking about writing is Clockwork Angels…their last album ever made. I always laugh when I see this. Three great friends who love each other and what they do. No wonder they stayed together for over 40 years! Thanks for this one 😎

Enjoying your videos, Justin. The first thing I thought when I watched this video is that they're just three nice, funny, nerdy guys who, as friends and as a band, had an immense love for each other. I'm thinking that if you're looking for something Rush to watch, that's not music, watch their induction into the RRHOF. The response from the crowd when Jan Wenner introduces them is one of the best things I've ever seen. What happens after he introduces them is something that has never happened in the history of the RRHOF and more than likely will never happen again. Definitely worth a watch!

This is an extended video of them at dinner. A portion of this is at the end of their "Beyond the lighted stage" Documentary. I definitely reccomend seeing that, as it goes in depth into their history, and has several cool celebrity/musician cameos. The documentary was follwed up a few years later for their final Tour, "Time STand Still" and kind of explains why they stopped. Both great films. Geddy and Alex also did a recent interview with George Strombopolous that is really good.

They were getting together to talk about writing new music for the first time in 5 years after Neil lost both his wife and daughter in the same year. They were just trying to keep the conversation light. That's what I like about them as people which is being humble and non-pretentious and not taking themselves too serious. These guys never got hung up on money or trying to act "cool". They came from strict down to earth working class families and they were ok with being themselves and having a sense of humor. This is how they got along and were like family.

This is just a look behind the curtain of who they were. It’s refreshing to see these guys show a deep level of caring and enjoying each other, as opposed to the tried and true (fill in your own specific names) blank hates blank, they only are with each other on stage and never speak to one another. Rush had a unique fondness for one another. We fans were happy for them, and it was cool for us because we knew they weren’t going to break up someday.

What was it for? I guess just something for the fans. It was a bonus material on one of their concert DVDs. Alex and Geddy went to high school together, shared classes, and were friends. Neil came along later, but still when they were in their early 20s, so they all have history together. It's fun watching them just chilling.

About the nicknames: the guys have a bunch of different nicknames for each other, but the ones you hear them call each other the most are the ones used here, which are Lerxst (Alex), Dirk (Geddy), and Pratt (Neil). I'm not sure what the origin of "Dirk" is (a little help, Rush family?), but the Pratt and Lerxst are just their actual names as they were butchered by members of the foreign fans and media in their earliest tours overseas. "Pratt" from "Peart" and "Lerxst" from "Alex". FUN FACT: the only time one of their names is referred to in song is that one of the subsections of "La Villa Strangiato" is titled "A Lerxst in Wonderland" which is a gag version of "Alice in Wonderland". The song is a musical representation of some crazy dreams Alex was known to have.

The guys who were making the documentary Beyond the Lighted Stage is quite serious, wanted to film this dinner with them. It turned out like a lot of get togethers of old friends(w lots of wine) and editing, a lot of silly banter. But out of it was the start of working on their last Album. As I mentioned styles changed over the years, the Album preceding the last Snakes and Arrows is in my mind the best work of the 2nd half of their career. Clockwork Angels is alsp great a bit more gritty, S & A is really a bit more 'diverse', diverse,. All in time. The full documentary is the thing to watch, learn all abt them, triumphs and tragedy, ect w many guests from rock giving insight as well. Great doc.

So this works best when you see it at the end of the Beyond the Lighted Stage documentary. After 2 hours of watching their rise from Canadian obscurity to international super-stardom, doing things their way, adulation from peers and their fans, blah blah blah (no pun intended) you get this fun, little unscripted interaction, which basically confirms most of what you learned about them from the documentary. Alex is a goofball and Geddy just goads him for fun. But the best part is watching Neil get progressively shitfaced. 😆

As many have said, you should watch their induction to the rock and roll hall of fame. There are two videos to see. The first video is Jann Wenner of Rolling Stone announcing the 2013 inductees. He was one of the reasons Rush never made it in. The video is titled: Rock and Roll Hall of Fame: Jann Wenner (2013 Clip) | HBO Here's the link: kzfaq.info/get/bejne/lbF8qLyJuZy1fYk.html The second is of Dave and Taylor from the Foo Fighters inducting them in. It's 33mins long and can be broken into two reviews. The first portion is the actual induction lasting 17min 46secs. The second portion is their performance. The video is titled: Rush - Rock and Roll Hall of Fame Induction - 2013. Here's the link: kzfaq.info/get/bejne/Z7BpgLSZ3LvUg58.html

It was about nothing they talked about. it was about the relationship they have with each other, for everything it was worth to them. The details of which we could only begin to imagine. Some of it, I'm sure, is written in their personal accounts of life in "Rush". No matter who we thought they were as musicians or "rock stars", these are three "old school" guys who've banded together and were each others keeper, to some extent. I think we're witnessing a "family dynamic" amongst "brothers" of a kind. It doesn't need to make sense to anyone else, but anyone else who's experienced the same would probably recognize it, IMO.

The guys are have nicknames for each other. Geddy Dirk Alex Lersxt Neil Pratt For clarification Alex was never married to Ulma Thurman or Buffy St Marie who is a Canadian folk singer. He has been with his wife Charlene since he was a teenager and became a dad at 17. Alex and his wife got married in their early 20's and are still together. Geddy and his wife have been together since their 20's as well. Neil went through a major tragedy. He and his first wife lost their daughter Selena when she died in automobile accident when she was 19. Then his wife Jackie developed cancer and passed within a year. Neil lost his whole family. He went on a major motorcycle journey through Canada and the U.S. The band was on hiatus. Then Neil finally stopped in California. A friend introduced him to Carrie who became his second wife. He moved to California as Carrie was an established photographer there. Neil came back and the band got back together again. Neil and Carrie had a daughter Olivia who Neil was teaching to drum. Unfortunately not long after Neil developed brain cancer and passed three years later. I am not sure why they filmed them having dinner together. There is different bit of this dinner in the documentary Beyond the Lighted Stage. As you can see these guys loved to joke around and there is a true bond between the three of them.

I think they're just having a laugh at the fact people want to see them converse at dinner. When they talk about doing a new album or writing new material, they comment that it has to be fresh and different -they can't do the same album they just did. And, if they don't like the direction a song is going, they can just make changes in the middle. Well, that sounds like the blueprint of every song and album they have ever wrote: no song or album sounds alike. Geddy caps it off with acknowledging that they're just ordinary, boring people.
