I remember my high school had a "beginner" guitar class but I joined anyway despite playing for almost 10 years at that point, plus it meant I didn't have to take calculus lmao Anyway, later on in the semester, we learned Dust in the Wind, but it was just the chords and a super easy 1 finger melody, the notes for the vocals if I remember right. But the teacher knew I played guitar for a lot of my life and handed me the fingerstyle part and all I could do was go "YESSSS" because I seriously thought I was going to have to play straight up chords and 1 finger melodies for 2 weeks

I used to do solo acoustic gigs for pay at weddings, cocktail parties, etc., and developed a pretty large repertoire of acoustic tunes. Some favorites (of mine and/or the listeners) were Here Comes the Sun and Norwegian Wood by the Beatles, More Than Words by Extreme, Scarborough Fair and Mrs. Robinson by Simon & Garfunkel, Wond’ring Aloud by Jethro Tull, Walk On The Ocean by Toad the Wet Sprocket, John Barleycorn by Traffic, Mood For A Day by Yes, Landslide by Fleetwood Mac, Sweet Baby James by James Taylor, All I Want by Joni Mitchell, Change the World by Clapton, and the Intro to Weather Report Suite by the Dead. Also, I’m With You by Avril Lavigne is a really nice song, believe it or not.

As always, an amazing learning experience! My addition would be “House of the Rising Sun”. My band played this as our closing number at the Aurora Bar and Lounge (and hotel). Oddly enough, our power suddenly went out after the second verse. Sadly, the audience missed the great Hammond B3 organ solo.

"What you give" by Tesla. That song is really fun. Simple to play, if your a fan of Tesla. Their songs are not hard, but they tend to have some strange ways of getting through progressions. Like most the song Is G/(A?), F, E, D, and C however whenever playing the chorus you play the C chord and the the last note of that bar goes back to F and the last note of that bar is C so it feels really weird as it then just switches back to the opening phrase/main verse riff. The timing is in 4/4, but being a Tesla song the way they manipulate the bar things feel slightly off time when learning a song. I can not explain you just gotta check em out!

Everlong is my favorite song period, but I actually do prefer playing that one electric with my band as opposed to solo acoustic. My favorite acoustic song to play is Name by Goo Goo Dolls. I legit bought a third acoustic guitar so I could replace the G and B strings to get the correct DAEAEE tuning, and designate that guitar for that one song. That tuning sounds so good even on my cheapo Dean acoustic, and it's really fun to play once you have it down.

Tyler! nice video! I worked hard on "more than words" when it came out... Then I spent a year kind of learning Jesu... that is a killer. But when you play Hole hearted by extreme... people seem to think it's cool, even if they don't know the song. The funniest thing was... a much younger guy kind of "challenged me" into playing Sultans... and his Jaw hit the floor.. and it's such an easy song.. and I truly enjoy playing it more than hearing it.

So I have an off topic question: in Mexico we call acoustic guitars that, acoustic (but they're usually the spanish/ nylon strings ones) and say electro-acoustic specifically for the metal strings ones, but I feel like in USA the default when saying "acoustic" guitars is the metal strings. For [Me buying one Month of GSS]: Yes, or No? Btw: def adding those to my guitarsenal
@Camila-qm1vu
@Camila-qm1vu 3 жыл бұрын
Acoustic guitars have metal stringd, almost always. If you have the soft nylon or rubber strings, thats called a classical guitar, coming that ur from Mexico, it’s probably a classical guitar as those are used when playing spanish songs.
