could you also surround the area where the panels are with mirrors made from mylar sheets? i heard the panels dont just get direct sunlight but also energy from light reflecting from off everything around them like the ground. i saw a video a long time ago guy was trying to explain that heat IS electricity and or energy

MPPT charge controllers are normally better than PWM charge controllers for getting the right voltage and current to the battery, but they're more expensive.

Such a small circuit and solar set-up has very little risk of damage by that or even EMP as long as you aren't near powerlines and other stuff like that. He will probably be using it at the Kabin o'Kenny anyways. Far far away from that stuff.

@@sojournerdelaterra6144 Oh, I totally understand that if one has their solar panel disconnected, as long as they have no long wires attached to the panel, then the solar panel will be ok from a CME. What I would want Ken to do is host a video of what he would do to protect his home (where he has all his sewing machinery). Out there at the cabin, where Ken most likely has no AC power, he is fine since he plugs nothing into the power grid. What would he do to protect all that equipment at his home if it is connected to the grid? I am trying to figure a way to harden my home from a CME event. thanks.

@@robertlabarbera5546 The cheapest way is just shut off your main breaker and unplug all of your appliances and wait it out. CME's are predictable. It is only the magnitude of the effect that is up to debate. Using surge protectors aren't a bad idea either. I use them on all critical equipment in my home and most electronics dealers recommend them anyways to protect your stuff from lightning hitting a power line.

250AH is the biggest battery I've found, but only 60%. Edison batteries are more durable but lower AH 6v, and expensive. A good controller and pure sin inverter

I was going to buy 2 lothium ion leicer batteries to replace my old lead acid betteries for my van which have less than 1/3 of their original capacity, but I'm worried about the rist of fire with lithium ion or more how dofficult it is to put out a fire for lithium ions. I know that they have twice the capacity and half the weight but very hard to put out in a fire and its not goot to fully charge lithium ion above 85%, although sofware prevents that and they dont like extreme heat or cold bit they have a fan and maybe heating. So ots a tricky one. Maybe the simplest solution is to replace with 2 more lead acid batteries.

I'm assuming you mean for camping r/v power and not to operate the van itself? The alternators and regulators on most vehicles, unless specifically mentioned, are not engineered or designed to work with lithium battery technology without a custom re-fit. It could fry your battery up or fry something else.

Other than what ken said, ecoflow delta pro2, I believe, it at good one and super fast recharge. Having both won't hurt. Takes knowledge and time to piece together and ecos are on sale lately. Back up the back up ! 😎

I'm a little confused. Can I use this 45$ charge controller instead of that bigger MPPT? Even if I had two or three 100 amp hour batteries in parallel? I took notes on the comprehensive solar set up video you did, but my budget is beyond low. I have 200 and 160 solar panels, (I bought an ecoflow because I didn't know how to set it up otherwise until you helped me and wanted something to generate, at least). Also, the hack to use jumper cables won't work with this little $45 guy, right?

You are linking to the MPPT , controller not the PWM you might explain the difference and why one is used over another. PWM is 1/2 the price as the MPPT. the link in the comments is correct under the video is not correct.

cool! i am saving up for a few pq batteries. Regarding skeeters, an ingenious design a guy near me in tampa came up with seems to work quite well.
