Goncalo Amaral had misunderstandings about the dogs capabilities and misunderstood Martin Grime to mean that the dogs had been successful in over 200 cases, when in fact what Grime said was that in over 200 cases the cadaver dog had never falsely alerted to rotting meat or foodstuffs. Eddie was not simply a cadaver dog, it might have been better if he was, he was an enhanced victim recovery dog. That meant he could detect cadaver and other bodily fluids such as blood. Martin Grime, the dog handler, can only form an opinion on what the dogs indicated, it is up to foensics to determine what the evidence means. In this case, the dogs turned up no evidence. The blood was not from Maddie and no body or body parts were found. The forensics report shows that it was not possible to determine if Eddie had alerted to cadaver, blood, or other bodily fluids.

No, she didn't. Her diary notes that she washed the toy 90 days after the disappearance because it was dirty and no longer carried any scent of Madeleine. Besides that, why should she not have washed it? If the police had considered it might be used as evidence, it should have been confiscated but wasn't. So Kate would have no idea that it should not be washed.

As far as a lie detector goes, they are not admissable in court and are not reliable. They depend on certain non consciously controlled variables such as minute changes in skin resistance due to sweat, for example. An awkward question, or any question that provokes a sudden change of mood can influence the outcome. Those machines are not able to detect 'lies' but changes in physiology, which can then be interpreted as meaning a person lied. It could also mean that you reminded them of something unpleasant that caused the reaction. Not useful in crime detection I'm afraid.

Both statements are true, that Eddie ignored, passed by, played with cuddle cat on several occasions, watch the video, it's on you tube, find it. This basically indicates that there was no scent on the cuddle cat. My second statement is that cadaver can still be detected after a wash. It takes specialist cleaning to get rid of the scent of cadaver, and would take several machine washes if there was any scent on the toy. The fact that Eddie did not alert to the toy except in circumstances already explained, indicates that there was nothing to alert to, and IF the toy had originally been in contact with a corpse, it would take more than a machine wash to clean it. Her more likely exit would have been the patio door as that is what they had used to enter all week and it was unlocked. There is a picture of Ella the Payne's daughter opening their patio door. The smell of a cadaver is very strong and stomach turning....anyone could smell it, from quite away off and anyone handling the bag, or God forbid, near it on a plane or in the airport, would be woofing their cookies fairly quickly.
