In this video, I give a lesson to a 54 year old WEEKEND WARRIOR who is struggling with both DISTANCE and DIRECTION!
The first step was to correct his excessively OPEN club face during the backswing - I demonstrate ONE simple swing feel that will be a game changer for those of you that open your club face.
The student also struggled like 85% of golfers with what I call a “TRANSITION SPIN.” This is when the body SPINS back toward the ball too quickly, leading to an early release and poor impact virtually every time!
Maintaining a back-to-target orientation during the transition allowed him to implement both linear (ARMS) and angular (WRISTS) momentum.
We also focused on reducing the tension in his arms from 9/10 to 5/10 and before long he was able to FEEL the club head for the first time! RELAXING the ARMS in the swing is a critical thing!
The correct use of the HANDS & ARMS is what is missing for 85% of golfers who jump at the ball with their body because they haven’t educated the only part of the body that touches the golf club!! (The HANDS!)
In my experience, EXCESSIVE TENSION and TRANSITION SPINNING is responsible for just about every possible miss in the game of golf - It’s a swing killer!
By simply reducing arm tension to a 5/10 and maintaining that relaxed state throughout the swing the student was able to demonstrate remarkable LAG, and much better BALL STRIKING!
This golf lesson shows that even a weekend golfer with an 18 handicap can make significant improvements with the right guidance. There’s no reason why you can’t do the same! 👊🏻👊🏻👊🏻

Andrew, YOU are the BEST KZfaq golf instructor of the many I have watched.

You addressed the elephant in the room … the release …. The body swing instruction on KZfaq ignores the release and concentrates on some super chip… now we know get the appropriate hinge in the backswing and release the club … great progress 😅😅

Great way to show what is really happening with the before & after swings. You’re the first person I’ve seen use this angle.

Andrew, what an excellent video with a real live student. With that lag that he's gained, he should be able to really get distance with so much less effort. Nice to see a real world example. Keep up the great work!

Very effective learning with the comparison side by side; many thanks Coach Andrew. As I reported earlier to you all I did was one day of practice using your method; the results were immediate success. Going forward I will train more guided by you, hope to use on line coaching with you.

Watched this video yesterday with your commentary and instantly subscribed to your channel. Your explanations are concise and easy to process. The swing transformation in the video illustrated how an anemic, violent, narrow swing can blossom into an athletic movement with great tempo. With proper sequencing, the arms and hands move faster but it actually feels like there's more time to execute. Thank you for this gem!

Thanks very much Andrew, felt I was looking in a mirror at before images - hcap, build, swing , age and hair style 😁, very similar. And yes have been trying to swing like an 18 year old American college golfer. Thanks again
