For your Corn salad add you mayo and let it marinate in refrigerator for a few hours and only add Fritos when you are ready to eat it. That’s how we do it. It’s awesome.

So glad I found you on youtube! I've been looking for some true Southern recipes and this salad episode is fabulous!! My 13 year old son and I just made the Chili Frito salad and he LOVES it too! Keep them coming.

We make that pistachio fluff, too! For Christmas, we grind up cranberries in a food processor and make the fluff salad with marshmallows, cranberries, Cool Whip, and vanilla pudding mix. I also make one with cheesecake pudding, marshmallows, Cool Whip, and pineapple and coconut (pina colada type) and sometimes canned mandarin oranges. You can totally play around with so many flavors! The base is always Cool Whip, pudding mix, and marshmallows. The flavors and fruit combos are endless!

My mama always made the Watergate salad, but we called it “marshmallow fluff”! We added pecans, instead of walnuts and coconut and cherries! We eat the Cowboy Caviar with Scoops, and we also put cilantro in it! Those salads came at just the right time! I have a family bbq coming up in 2 weeks and I can’t wait to make a couple of these! It brought back some very fun memories that I had forgotten about! Thank y’all ❤

My mother-in-law's recipe from the late 70's didn't have coconut, cherries, or walnuts. We loved it!💚🤍 Also, the cowboy caviar recipe I've used calls for diced ripe tomato and diced avocado to be added. We eat it with tortilla chips!🍅🥑

We've made Watergate Salad for as long as my 53 yrs can remember! Always at Christmas. We just use the pistachio pudding, the cool whip, mini marshmallows, pineapple, and pecans. I love it! And like yall said, not as dessert but part of the main meal. Enjoy your vacation.

My sister-in-law used to make some Delicious Watergate Salad for Thanksgiving. Hers had Pecans in it. I eat it with my Turkey & Dressing instead of Cranberry Sauce.

I make a Texas caviar but it has black eyed peas pinto beast white shoe peg corn jalapeño and onion. With a boiled dressing of sugar oil cider vinegar and pepper boil let cool pour on ingredients and refrigerate over night! Drain and serve with chips. So good.

I make the corn salad only Mexican style- use del monte Mexican corn drained, Mayo add it in as you make it- Half packet ranch dressing, tablespoon of taco seasoning onion (optional) shredded cheese mix together and before serving add crushed chips. For the Cowboy Caviar- I have always added a cheap Italian dressing along with your seasonings and let it sit overnight serve with tortilla chips.

I make a Cowboy Caviar very differently, and as pretty as yours is too!! My recipe has the black beans, corn, jarred mild jalapeño peppers, a little juice from the peppers, onions, fresh chopped tomatoes, garlic, cilantro, of course, and lime juice from about 1-2 limes. Growing up, we had Watergate salad for every family gathering. We used pecans and we did not add coconut or cherries. Remains a family favorite to this day!! Oh man! Now I want some!

Gotta say - Destin is the prettiest place we have traveled. We stayed at the Army Recreation area campground right on the water! Amazing! AND the Watergate Salad - I fix it at Christmas and add a drop or two of green food coloring to make it a little greener and then the red cherries on top. Festive!!! AND the Frito Corn salad - I go ahead and add the mayo to the veggies and then just add the Fritos when we eat it. The flavors meld more. I actually bought Fritos at the grocery store today to make this before I saw your video!

I make the Frito Corn Salad and am requested at every event to bring it. There are never any left overs to bring home. I use 3 different colors of bell peppers instead of one. I usually chop all my vegetables and add corn the night before. Cover and refrigerate overnight. In the morning I add my cheese, frito and mayo usually a few hours before serving. The chips do not get mushy but do soften a bit. Love this recipe.

I make a recipe of cowboy caviar from a church gathering and it’s black eye peas, shoe peg corn, tomatoes, avocados, garlic, green onions, salt and pepper, cumin, olive oil and rice wine vinegar and cilantro if you like it. This is so good!

My family calls the Watergate Salad “Green Stuff”. One of the kids requested it by that name one time and it stuck. My family never added cherries or coconut flakes. And instead of walnuts, they used pecans. I love it their way, but I think I’m gonna give your mama’s recipe a try because I love all of the ingredients she includes.

Maybe you could try making the salads without onion so that you can enjoy them and have a separate bowl for your husband with the onion. I'm with you, I'm not a fan of onion but those salads look awesome. I love watching you guys!!

Your Watergate salad is a family favorite! We put a small can of drained Mandarin oranges in too. Haven't tried it with the coconut, but going to have to try it the next time we make it! 😊

My mom always made the Watergate salad, we called it green salad. She did not add the walnut,coconut flakes or cherries, but added green food coloring. I made it for my kids when they were little and depending on the time of year, depended on the color we chose.

In a jam with no can opener…. Go find some concrete outside and rub the can in a circular motion repeatedly and it will eventually open!!!! Love your videos!!!
