No. Even the sahaba enjoyed poetry. From the poetry there is the good and the bad just like in speech there is good and bad. You leave what is bad. we are not restricted to religiously-themed poetry only, but anything that is pure-hearted and good, from anyone who is of a good-nature. Out of the Companions (may Allah be pleased with them), four were particularly well-known for reciting poetry: Abdullah ibn Rawaha, Ka’ab ibn Malik, Ka’ab ibn Zuhair and Hassan ibn Thabit. Allah Most High said in surah al Shu’ara’ (The Poets), regarding the poets from amongst the pagans: “As for the poets, the ones who are astray follow them closely. Don’t you see how they wander about in every valley [crossing the limits of praise and disparagement?] And they say that which they do not practice?” [al Qur’an, 26:224-227) At this, Ibn Katheer and Imam al-Tabari relate that some of the above companion poets became worried that the verse was speaking about them. Then, Allah Ta’ala revealed the next verse, which made an exception for the Muslim poets, saying: “Except for those (poets) who believe and do righteous deeds and remember Allah much, and come to the aid [of the Muslims by composing verses against those who lampoon them]…”

🎼Straight Forward Evidences of the Impermissibilty of Music and Its Instruments🎺 from the Book of Allah and the Sunnah of His Messenger ﷺ 🔬 Evidences of its Impermissibilty from the Qur'an 🔎1st Evidence: *🍂 قال تعالىٰ 😗 {وَمِنَ النَّاسِ مَن يَشْتَرِي لَهْوَ الْحَدِيثِ لِيُضِلَّ عَن سَبِيلِ اللَّـهِ بِغَيْرِ عِلْمٍ وَيَتَّخِذَهَا هُزُوًا ۚ أُولَـٰئِكَ لَهُمْ عَذَابٌ مُّهِينٌ} [سورة لقمان : ٦] *🍂Allah The Most-High said: {And of the people is he who buys the amusement of speech to mislead [others] from the way of Allah without knowledge and who takes it in ridicule. Those will have a humiliating punishment.}[Luqman:6] *• قال حبر الأمة ابن عباس رضي اللّٰه عنهما 😗 " هو الغناء " وقال مجاهد رحمهُ اللّٰه : " اللهو : الطبل " *📚 تفسير الطبري* 🔘The scholar of this nation, Ibn Abbas (May Allah be pleased with him) said, "This (verse) refers to music." And Mujaahid (May Allah have mercy on him) said, "The amusement (mentioned in this verse) is the drum. 📚 Tafsir Tabari ▪وقال الحسن البصري رحمهُ اللّٰه 😗 " نزلت هذه الآية في الغناء والمزامير " . *📚 تفسير ابن كثير* 🔘Hassan al-Basari (May Allah have mercy on him) said, "This verse was revealed regarding singing and flutes." 📚Tafsir Ibn Katheer *• قال ابن القيم رحمهُ اللّٰه 😗 " ويكفي تفسير الصحابة والتابعين للهو الحديث بأنه الغناء فقد صح ذلك عن ابن عباس وابن مسعود. قال أبو الصهباء : سألت ابن مسعود عن قوله تعالى : {وَمِنَ النَّاسِ مَن يَشْتَرِي لَهْوَ الْحَدِيثِ} فقال : واللّٰه الذي لا إله غيره هو الغناء يرددها ثلاث مرات وصح عن ابن عمر رضي الله عنهما أيضا أنه الغناء " . *📚إغاثة اللهفان لابن القيم* 🔘Ibn al-Qayyim (May Allah have mercy on him) said, "And it suffices the explanation of the Sahaabah and the Taabieen that, 'amusing speech' is music, and that was authenticated on Ibn Abbas and Ibn Masud. Abu Sahbah said, I asked Ibn Masud concerning the statement of Allah, {And of the people is he who buys the amusement of speech} He said, "I swear by Allah, the One that there is no other deity except Him, that it is music." [He repeated it three times] And it was also authenticated on Ibn Umar, that this verse pertains to music. 📚Relieving The Two Sorrows by Ibn Qayyim 🔎 2nd Evidence: *🍂 قال تعالى 😗 {وَاسْتَفْزِزْ مَنِ اسْتَطَعْتَ مِنْهُم بِصَوْتِكَ وَأَجْلِبْ عَلَيْهِم بِخَيْلِكَ وَرَجِلِكَ وَشَارِكْهُمْ فِي الْأَمْوَالِ وَالْأَوْلَادِ وَعِدْهُمْ ۚ وَمَا يَعِدُهُمُ الشَّيْطَانُ إِلَّا غُرُورًا} [سورة الإسراء : ٦٤] *🍂Allah The Most-High said: {And incite [to senselessness] whoever you can among them with your voice and assault them with your horses and foot soldiers and become a partner in their wealth and their children and promise them." But Satan does not promise them except delusion.} [al-Isra:64] ▪قال مجاهد 😗 " واستفزز : استخف، صوتك : بدعائك بالغناء والمزامير وكل داع إلى المعصية " . *📚 تفسير الطبري* 🔘Mujaahid said, "incite" means: soften your voice in your call with music and flute and every call to evil." 📚Tafsir at-Tabari *• وقال القرطبي في تفسيره 😗 " في الآية ما يدل على تحريم المزامير والغناء واللهو وما كان من صوت الشيطان أو فعله وما يستحسنه فواجب التنزه عنه" . *📚 تفسير الطبري* 🔘Qurtubi said in his explanation of this verse, "In this verse is what points to the impermissibilty of the flute (musical instruments), music, diversions in entertainment and what was from the sounds (speech) of Shaitan, or from his actions and whatever beautifies that. So it is obligatory to be far removed from it." 📚Tafsir Tabari 🔎 3rd Evidence: *🍂 قال اللّٰه عز وجل 😗 {وَالَّذِينَ لَا يَشْهَدُونَ الزُّورَ وَإِذَا مَرُّوا بِاللَّغْوِ مَرُّوا كِرَامًا } [الفرقان : ٧٢] *🍂Allah The Most-High said: {And [they are] those who do not testify to falsehood, and when they pass near ill speech, they pass by with dignity.} [Furqaan:72] *• جاء عن محمد بن الحنفية رحمهُ اللّٰه أنه قال 😗 " الزور هنا الغناء " . *📚 تفسير ابن كثير* 🔘Muhammad Ibn Hanafiyah (May Allah have mercy on him) said, "Falsehood here (means) music." 📚Tafsir Ibn Katheer *• قال مجاهد* في قوله تعالى : {وَالَّذِينَ لَا يَشْهَدُونَ الزُّورَ} قال : " لا يسمعون الغناء " . *📚تفسير القرطبي* 🔘Mujaahid said about the statement of Allah, {And [they are] those who do not testify to falsehood} "They don't listen to music." 📚 Tafsir al-Qurtubi *• قال أبو جعفر 😗 " وأصل الزور تحسين الشيء، ووصفه بخلاف صفته، حتى يخيل إلى من يسمعه أو يراه، أنه خلاف ما هو به، والشرك قد يدخل في ذلك لأنه محسن لأهله، حتى قد ظنوا أنه حق وهو باطل، ويدخل فيه الغناء لأنه أيضا مما يحسنه ترجيع الصوت حتى يستحلي سامعه سماعه " . *📚 تفسير الطبري* 🔘Abu Jafar said, "The origin of falsehood is to beautify something and describe it with other than its true description until it gives the impression to the one listening or looking, that it is other than what it is. As shirk (associating partners with Allah) enters into this as well, because it beautifies to its people until they believe it's the truth, and it is falsehood. And also music is included in this, because it also is from what beautifies it's
