Are you looking to improve your ET's? Nothing improves your acceleration and helps you launch your Stang like a set of Ford Racing Rear End Gears! The FRPP ring and pinion gear sets are available in multiple gear ratios for your Ford 8.8 rear end. Each gear set includes the pinion and ring gears, crush sleeve, and pinion nut. Here at LMR.com we know that you need more than just the gears to finish off your installation. That is why we are the originators of the Mustang Rear Gear Kits!
Installation of your new ring and pinion gears should always be done by a mechanic with a good working knowledge of rear end gears! We put together this how to installation video to help walk you through the install process. If you feel at any point this removal and installation process is above your mechanical skill level -- you aren't alone. Make sure you take your Mustang and new gears to a good trustworthy shop with experience installing Ford 8.8 rear end gears. This video will help you have a better understanding of what questions you should be asking and what to look for in the installation!
Changing your rear end gear ratio will require you to recalibrate your speedometer. For 83-95 Fox Body and SN95 Mustangs, you will need to replace your speedometer gear to fix your speedometer.
Click the following link to see our speedometer gear calculator to properly select the correct speedometer gear: lmr.com/products/Mustang-Spee...
If you have a 1996 to present Mustang your best fix is to pick up a SCT tuning device such as the SF3 handheld tuner to correct your speedometer. You can see our full line of SCT Tuners here: lmr.com/products/Mustang-SCT-...

Ha ha ha, no joke,i actually work in machine shop though and we pretty much have all these tools and i still wouldn't try it,i can build a motor blind folded but when it comes to this nothing is more frustrating than getting done and taking it for a test drive and then find out its screaming down the road cause your pre-load is wrong and having to start all over, no sir.

@@latemodelrestorationLandon, how much horizontal play should be on that axle? I just bought a 88 GT and I can jack the rear up and move the axles about 1/8”-1/4” horizontally on both sides. This seems excessive to me. But, they do not come out so I’m pretty sure the c clips are in there.

4:07, literally looks like the race driver just nicked the middle section of the outer race lol. I've seen this in other videos too for some reason i believe this but apparently someone told me this is not true. 6:35 i think thats bad on the tapered bearings because you're loading the bearings pushing them in with the hydraulic press, i believe if you used a driver set with the tapered side facing up and that 2 jaw piece that on the bottom, not to mention take off the outer race and i think it might be better, IMO! These are great steps 1-10 instructions, Great work!

I was hoping you would show the install of a modified shim pack. As they can be pretty tricky to get everything to stay in line (shim packs and the diff) as you are installing it in rear end. I remember trying to use grease to try to get the shims to stick together. It didn't work! I ended up flipping my stock shims and it worked out that way. Is there a trick to getting the diff in with the aftermarket shim packs? I think I had like 8 shims on one side and 2 on the other where the stock is easy 1 and 1. Hope that makes sense!

My dear, congratulations on the video! I live in Brazil, I have problem in my Ford Explorer 2004, she gives a jolt, sometimes they constantly put in reverse or "d", the stride is giving this more when I'm moving and shooting off the throttle once , gives the stride, when floor once also gives the stride, like a hit metal, or something working loose, what do you think? May be in the transmission box? Or differential? Underscoring that peaceful machas pass without any stride. I'm grateful for the attention.

What about setting pinion depth? There is a big problem with this video where it says to put factory shim on the new pinion. You would be very lucky if that was the correct shim for the new pinion. In my case it was not. It caused me a lot of grief to have to take everything back apart because tooth pattern indicated the pinion depth needed to be increased. You have to press off the pinion bearing again so you can add or change shims. You will destroy the new bearing when you do this because a bearing separator can only catch the outer cage of the bearing to pull it off. The cage of bearing destroyed in the process. I ran out to the local parts store to pickup a new bearing, but I painstakingly find out the bearing did match the Ford Racing bearing race already installed. If you leave in the Ford Racing bearing race, the carrier will hit the pinion because the aftermarket bearing is not seated in the race. It took me several hours to figure out the problem with the bearing. I assembled and disassembled too many times to count. LMR, please add a section on setting pinion depth using the pinion depth tool you sell. Also, please emphasize more that the pinion resistance to turn is inch pounds and not foot pounds. The video does say inch pounds. However, I made the mistake and used foot pounds. I had to take it apart once again to replace crush sleeve. Murphy's Law was in effect and the new crush sleeve from my local Autozone store won't crush. I broke two half inch drives using a 6 foot wrench. The Autozone crush sleeve refuses to crush. At this point the nut is so tight on the pinion, I don't know if I can get it off without damaging the pinion. All this started from watching this video. I did purchase the ring and pinion kit form LMR, it was logical for me to watch their install video. But wow did it set off a chain of events!

@jp demolet keep cranking on it like he's doing in the video with the giant breaker bars against his shoulder. Do this until the flange sits flush against the yoke, so there's no more play. Then put a torque wrench on the nut and turn the pinion. The resistance is actually what you're measuring (16-20 inch lbs on new bearings).

+xUNGODLYCARNAGEx I know this answer is too late for you but for others wondering yes gears should be broken in the gear manufacture I bought my gears from says to drive the the car for only 20 miles first and let the diffs cool down than drive normal for the next 100 miles and don't tow with the car until after 500 miles to allow a good wear pattern to form on the ring and pinon.

Hi, i have a set of used ford racing 3.73 that i want to install.. i have alk the tools needed except for dial indicator.. they have about 1000 miles on them so pinion is lighty marked by normal use/wear so if i go by those marks lining exactly the same do i still need a dial indicator? Thanks

+vicente barajas I would recommend a dial indicator Vicente, because you may need to swap some shims out from one side to the other in your rear housing. This is one of those jobs where you really want to know what your dealing with rather than just guessing and back lash really can't be seen even with paint on the gears its the back and forth movement of the ring gear while the pinion gear is held stationary and a dial is really the only way to know how much movement you have.

What gear ratios are recommended? I have a 5 spd. currently with 3.55 rear end. Speedo reads about 5 miles more so if I am doing 65 I am actually doing 60 mph. Originally it came with 3.08 rear end but Ford snuck one in off the parts shelf and put in a 3:55 rear end without telling me which is why the speedo is off..

This may be a dumb question, but how do I know which gear kit to buy? I have a 2012 3.7L V6 in manual transmission. Do I get 3.7? or 4.1.0? what will fit me the best?

Easy, it honestly depends on how much acceleration you are looking for. 4.10's are great for the strip and street use, but you lose some top end speed due to the higher rear end gearing. 3.73 are great if you do lots of touring and beat on it a little. Honestly, if you are a mustang enthusiast, i'll bet you'll go 4.10. I have them in mine, and it is SO f-ing fun to run. My suggestion to you is to look at what you want your car to do in the future years, and think about what you are willing to shell out for it. I dropped a procharged 5.4 Liter that I bored to a 6.0L, stuffed that in, put in a Tremec TKO-600 (Forged), twin disc clutch, new/stronger shafts, axels, an FR500 Diff with 4.10s. That car scared me. But it's fun.

LMR, if i am just replacing the rear differential pinion flange and seal - can i just remove the driveshaft to replace these parts or do i need to tear the whole differential apart?
