Not working on mine. Even the manual that came with it says to use 1 or 2 to turn off/turn on sounds, but I get no confirmation sound from holding either button for 3+ seconds. I'm actually trying to turn the beeps back on! Somehow went off and can't get them back on. Guess mine might actually have a problem ;(

My Whirlpool is the worst. If you open the door while it's beeping it still doesn't stop, and it's super loud. And I tried the steps in this video and others and cannot make it stop. I hate it. Thanks though for the hope.

Yes this works but then turns off timer mode as well. Is there anyway to have the beeps on the keypad and the timer but not the ending and reminder beeps? I do not have my book!

Unfortunately that's the trade off for not wanting any beeps the timer won't beep as well

🆘 Customers need to think twice before buying the Whirlpool microwave- wmh53521hz-5. When the light won’t shut off the only way to fix it is to buy a new motherboard, and they range in price from $156 to over $300 online plus tax & shipping. Also $150 for service call to install it. And it’s an inherent problem in this Whirlpool model. You can buy a new microwave for $450 or pay that much for repairs or buy an LED stick up under cabinet lights for $12 to $18 as a alternative solution.

For anybody with a Whirlpool 1.1 cu over the range microwave here is some help to mute from the instruction manual "Tones Open door, press and hold number keypad “4” for 5 seconds to disable button tones. Repeat to turn buttons tones back on. End of cycle & timer tones will still be active."
