6.5 Creedmoor testing happening today on precision rifle network. This rifle is for NRL Hunter competitions and I wanted to see what was better for me between muzzle brake and silencer, and also federal gold medal match 130 and Norma golden target 130. Surprising results to say the least!

Appreciate the vid. I’m 100% with you on the muzzle brake thing. MY EARS RING 100% of the time with a brake even with muffs on. Tried a dozen muffs and none are quite protective enough for me. I have to wear plugs AND muffs or it damages my hearing.

A suppresser is always more accurate than anything else. Two reasons are 1. It removes the gasses that cause the round to slightly wobble as it exits the muzzle 2. It acts as a barrel dampener.

Agreed on the brake. Most of my practice is indoors, so makes the brake painful. 😊

I've definitely leaned towards suppressors compared to brakes in the last two years. When i got done shooting on a long day with a brake i felt like i had a sinus infection or something in the front of my face. No such problems with the cans.

The Norma ammo is too stringy to use IMO. Titanium and aluminum cans cause mirage much faster than steel, a cover would benefit you significantly. It’s also clear that your rifle likes to be a little warm with the GMM. Great shooting!

Brake is definitely not a user friendly device, even if it's a tunable muzzle brake. Using ear pro doesn't always protect your hearing unless you "layer" it. Suppresser is much more entertaining to use and it does protect your hearing. Depending on your harmonics it can increase accuracy or not. I'm now convinced that suppressers are the way to go.

From where I come from, silencers are not strictly regulated so I have the option of having a lot and selecting the one that improves accuracy and in my SBR rimfire rifles, it even improves accuracy and velocity and has no noticeable point of impact shift. The longer thicker silencers though, 10 inch + that I have selected and used that does not affect accuracy but slows down velocity and lowers POI. I think If you get lucky your silencer might have the effect of a tuner on your gun depending on chance and a lot of factors. The extreme accuracy bench shooters precision crowd here though do not use silencers and use either compensators or tuners instead. Me I’m more of a mid to long range rimfire and center fire precision hunter. I always go for earshots because I find the meat on selected food sized quarry tastes better and the meat is generally more tender if I drop them quick with a ear/head shot. 😁

I like using a can , I use 3D printed TI can over a AI brake , BUT if you want big recoil reduction you need to use a brake , I think for precision a 3D TI can is hard to beat . Also have found light weight cans are less prone to undoing/ unscrewing while shooting .

Depends on caliber for me. The smaller one the can is a plus as recoil is minor. On the bigger the brake does a lot more for you.

I also wanted to run my suppresser on my carbon fiber barrel, until I ran 8 rd strings with both the can and the brake. the Can opened up dramatically along with flyer. I will be using my brake on my carbon fiber barrel much to my displeasure.

@@PrecisionRifleNetwork I kind of do I am going to try a different can and see what happens. like you I would like to run the can for all the right reasons but a 2 moa gun will not work for me. with the brake it is a 10 rd sub moa gun. with the can it is a 3 to 5 rd sub moa then rd 4 to 7 it rapidly opens to a 2 or more moa gun. I have a banish 30 so I am going to try shortening from a 9" to a 7" and see. then I May try a flow thru can.

My 338 Lapua is making me consider a silencer. Even with double hearing protection the brake on it is really loud. I feel bad for the people on the range with me because if it's loud for me it's really loud for the people around me.

I know you touched on it in the vid, but wouldn't it be better to tweak the MV at those ranges and wait until you can shoot past 8-900 to tweak the BC? The bullets BC really doesn't come into play at 250 yds....
@PrecisionRifleNetwork
@PrecisionRifleNetwork 2 ай бұрын
Generally, that’s true, but I’ve become increasingly ok with tweaking bc simply because it’s never precise out of the box. Muzzle velocity is “certain” …with few exceptions.
